Abstract: Healthcare systems across the globe are riding a wave of clinical health IT investment, centered on electronic health records (EHR) systems. Supported by governmental incentives, this build-out has positioned the healthcare system for a period of transformation as EHR functionality has become ingrained in the work routines of healthcare providers and other system participants. We report on a field study of healthcare participants in the United States to explore the influence of EHR use on the boundaries and practices of the field. Our grounded theory analysis reveals the interplay between the field practices of individual communities and the boundary spanning practices that unite them. Through the adoption of a practice perspective, we highlight the changes to both boundary spanning and field practices engendered by enterprise EHR use and propose the complementary mechanisms of reticulation and boundary molding by which those changes emerge. We conclude with a consideration of the positive and potentially negative consequences of EHR use for delivery of healthcare services. Collapse

Abstract: Service exchange is considered as an integral component of digital platforms. Academic research differentiates between technical, economic, and social platforms, yet scholars face a multitude of diverse platform sub-types being inconsistently utilized. To address that issue and to provide a lexical platform definition overview, this study conducts a systematic scoping literature review on platform types and related concepts in the service domain. The systematic analysis of 49 high-quality service journal articles reveals that numerous digital platform sub-types exist in service research with overlapping definitions. Moreover, several relationship marketing constructs are investigated as central related concepts. This article is the first to explore divergent platform term definitions in the service domain and thus contributes a complementary service science lens on digital platforms alongside IS research. Abstract: The present study develops a novel deep learning method which assists text mining of online doctor reviews to extract underlying sentiment scores. Those scores can be used to estimate a healthcare service quality model to investigate how the online doctor reviews impact the online doctor consultation demand. Based on the data from the largest online health platforms in China, our model results show that the underlying sentiment scores have statistically significant impacts on the demand of online doctor consultation. Theoretically, the present study constructs an innovative deep learning algorithm with a better performance than four widely used text mining methods, which can be applied to text mining of many online forums or social media texts. Empirically, our model results show what factors impact the health service quality and online doctor consultation demand, and following those factors, healthcare professionals can improve their service. Abstract: AI-based social media recommendations have great potential to improve user experience. However, often these recommendations do not match the user interest and create an unpleasant experience. Moreover, the recommendation system being a black box creates comprehensibility and interpretability issues. This paper investigates social media recommendations from an end-user perspective. For the investigation purpose, we conducted a qualitative study with the users of the popular social media platform Facebook. We asked participants about social media content suggestions, comprehensibility, and explainability. Our analysis shows, users mostly require explanation whenever they encounter unfamiliar content and want to be informed about their data privacy and security. Furthermore, the users require concise, non-technical explanations along with the facility of controlled information flow. In addition, we observed that explanations impact the user's perception of transparency, trust, and understandability. Finally, we have outlined some design implications and presented a synthesized framework based on our data analysis. Collapse

Abstract: Suggestion boxes have been used in factories to improve processes through a continuous improvement approach. From this perspective, the ideas with direct and quick implementation and visible results are favoured. This paper investigates the nature of design activities hidden behind the ideas suggested. The authors sort 132 ideas from a suggestion box of a French train maintenance center and highlight differences in the processing of the ideas through the suggestion box. The paper shows that a part of the ideas should have been rejected, as they present a gap in the design to be directly implemented. However, they are kept and collectively re-worked to be well adapted to the factory. This enriches literature on creativity and crowd sourcing for and by manufacturing. In particular, it gives a design perspective to innovation and continuous improvement in factory by revealing different design types in the box to fit the production system. Collapse

Abstract: The appropriate selection of suitable process models plays an important role for IT project success. To aid in decision-making, IT project management literature offers a plethora of decision models for selecting suitable process models, however, hybrid process models are often neglected and adoption in practice is low or non-existent. To address this challenge, we draw on contingency theory to develop and implement a tool-supported decision model for the selection and evaluation of appropriate process models for IT projects, thereby leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning in the context of a selfenforcing network. Our model provides an objective tool to assess process model suitability. Results from a conducted online survey with project management experts indicate high validity. Therefore, we contribute to the field of IT project management by expanding AI-based decision models for selecting and evaluating process models through extending the range of covered models and implementing inherent weighting of criteria. Abstract: The purpose of this research is to investigate patient motivation for adopting telemedicine services. A theoretical research model is utilized based on the Extended Valence Framework (EVF), which includes perceived trust, perceived risk, perceived benefit, and the intent to use telemedicine services. Additionally, three antecedents of trust and risk are included --perceived privacy, perceived security, and familiarity. Partial least squares (PLS) is used to test the research model. The results indicate a clear pathway to intent through perceived trust and perceived benefit. In addition, the antecedents perceived security and familiarity have significant relationships with perceived trust, but not with perceived risk. Perceived privacy has no significance. Overall, this research suggests that to increase telemedicine services usage, we should focus on security, familiarity, trust, and benefit. Collapse

Abstract: Media capabilities influence consumers' trust in online exchanges. However, in the sharing economy, where consumers interact with service providers through a platform, conventional models of trust must be revisited. Our research identifies how media synchronicity and anonymity influence the relative importance of institution-based trust in sharing economy exchanges. We collected data from 248 ride-hailing customers and 288 cryptocurrency users to test a moderated mediation model of trust. We find that in the sharing economy media synchronicity and anonymity lead customers to develop trust toward service providers directly and undermine the impact of institutional trust mechanisms. This indicates that in sharing economy exchanges, trust can be built directly with the service provider, or alternatively, indirectly through the platform. Consequently, organizations in the sharing economy can strategically design their systems to engender trust by choosing between (1) emphasizing the platform's reputation or (2) encouraging direct communication between the consumer and service providers. Abstract: This paper explores how executives’ prior employment ties to interlocking directors, or those who hold additional board seats or executive positions at outside firms, influence individual executive interfirm mobility. As organizational boundary spanners, interlocking directors may be able to influence executive outcomes both within and outside of executives’ current firms. But given natural constraints on internal promotion for executives, we suggest most executives will tend to leverage ties to interlocking directors to access external opportunities, as manifested by movement to outside firms. Analysis of interfirm mobility among a sample of Standard & Poor’s 1500 executives between 2000 and 2014 offer support for this idea. We find a positive association between individual executives’ prior employment ties to interlocking directors and their hazard of movement to outside firms, including to the other firms where these directors serve. At the same time, we argue and find that the strength of this latter relationship will further depend on directors’ competing motivations owing to their specific positions in the focal and interlocking firms. Whereas holding a lead position on the focal firm’s board (i.e., as chairperson or lead independent director) weakens this relationship, holding the position of chief executive officer in the interlocking firm strengthens it. Our theory and findings highlight the unique and important role of interlocking directors in executive interfirm mobility and, in doing so, contribute novel insights regarding how ties to boundary spanners can influence individual outcomes for those to whom they are linked.
