Abstract: COVID-19 pandemic impaired function of healthcare systems globally by increased workload at intensive care units in hospitals that underwent a massive influx of patients in critical condition in need of tailored and specialized care. Prevalent respiratory failure increased the demand for ventilators and respiratory therapists. Due to personnel shortages, doctors and nurses, not trained in the field of intensive care, were expected to provide adequate care for patients, supporting themselves with help of consulting specialists and navigating equipment shortages. To deal with this problem we present the research result, conducted in cooperation between computer scientists and anesthesiologists, namely the advisory system that supports physicians who do not have expertise in operating ventilators for typical COVID-19 patients. The system has been implemented at two hospitals. We present the system architecture and some internals of its recommendation modules based on decision graphs and recurrent neural networks. Further research will embrace analysis and optimization of the modules to provide yet more accurate support, as early as possible and in a broader spectrum of patient's conditions. Collapse

Abstract: Live-streaming shopping becomes increasingly popular recently. However, little research explored why livestreaming shopping is so successful in continuously promoting sales and engaging consumers. Based on the Stimulus-Organism-Response framework, we explore the effects of five distinct characteristics (information richness, interactivity, vividness, social presence, and newness) of live-streaming shopping on consumers’ continuous participation intentions, and investigate the underlying organism from both the momentary states (i. e., perceived diagnosticity, perceived enjoyment, and perceived social support) and the reflective state (i.e., memorable experience). The results of a multi-method empirical study indicate that the memorable experience is a strong indicator of continued shopping behaviors. Collapse

Abstract: We examine how social sharing of consumers’ brand purchases affects brand competition in a market where different types of consumers, characterized by their distinct personal characteristics (i.e., personalities, hobbies, and lifestyles) and brand preferences (i.e., being loyal to one of two horizontally differentiated brands or neither), all desire accurate public perception of their true type. Social sharing of a consumer’s brand purchase allows the public to infer the consumer’s type, but such inference can be mistaken if a brand is purchased by multiple types of consumers. A consumer receives a higher public-perception utility from purchasing a brand if social sharing of the consumer’s purchase leads to a higher chance of accurate public perception. Our analysis shows that social sharing enhances the profit of the advantaged brand that attracts a larger size of loyal consumers but can hurt the profit of the disadvantaged brand that attracts a smaller size of loyal consumers. That is, in a horizontally differentiated market, social sharing may further strengthen the competitive status of the advantaged brand. Interestingly, the disadvantaged brand may become more likely to suffer from social sharing if it follows the conventional wisdom to expand the loyal segment. When the public can learn a consumer’s true type from other information sources (e.g., the consumer’s online blog), social sharing of consumers’ brand purchases brings a smaller profit gain to the advantaged brand. The disadvantaged brand may be better off or worse off, depending on the size of its loyal segment. Abstract: The introduction of consumer-initiated models with small group size has increased the popularity of group buying. With lower size requirements for forming buying groups, more impulsive buying is facilitated while more postpurchase regret is spawned. Consumer postpurchase regret not only poses challenges to the coordination of group buying but may also eventually lead to merchant losses. Therefore, understanding the factors that may affect consumer postpurchase regret in group-buying contexts is crucial. Drawing on observational learning theory and expectancy disconfirmation theory, the present study focuses on how the response speeds of groupbuying campaign coparticipants intertwined with publicly available information of group-buying deals (i.e., the deal popularity and expected savings) to affect campaign initiators’ postpurchase regret. Through secondary data analysis and a laboratory experiment, we find that a lower coparticipant response speed is associated with a higher likelihood of the initiator experiencing postpurchase regret. In addition, when deals have a higher level of popularity, this effect is amplified. Our findings demonstrate the potential importance of considering the coparticipant effect to discourage negative consumer behavior in group-buying contexts. Collapse

Abstract: It is long established that data from platforms can be useful for deriving patterned insights into people's behavior and conduct. Data platforms are important in fields with limited data availability and strict regulatory and hierarchical structures, such as healthcare and nursing analytics. Hence, we carefully examine three forerunner initiatives in establishing data platforms in the context of nursing care along normative, organizational, and technical dimensions of governance. The cases were selected due to their high level of comparability and to demonstrate three different types of data governance strategies understood as actions to reconcile conflicting interests regarding data and dealing with prevalent data protection lawranging from strictly processual approaches to the creation of synthetic data. These findings highlight the importance of considering data governance strategies concisely when building data platforms and suggest considerable variety in the configuration of data governance arrangements. Abstract: This research investigates technical characteristics and technological, social, and affective factors that influence the evaluation of perceived privacy risks and benefits toward adopting AI-based smart healthcare services in the USA. The study develops a research model that integrates Privacy Calculus Theory (PCT) with new constructs, i.e., AI technical characteristics (personalization and anthropomorphism), technological factors (perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness), social factors (social influence and privacy regulation) and two opposite emotional states (enjoyment and exhaustion). A survey will be developed and distributed using crowdsourcing through Prolific. The findings of our research will shed light on the different role of technical characteristics and technological, social, and affective factors on the calculus between perceived risks and benefits in relation to the adoption of AI-based smart healthcare services. Abstract: The introduction of blockchain offers new opportunities to rethink enterprise identity management. Recently, a new concept has emerged in the blockchain community called self-sovereign identity. Self-sovereign identity combines several existing decentralized identity management approaches, promising new ways to promote more convenient, connected, and secure identity services for the private and public sector. Nevertheless, research in this area is still in its infancy. Most of the very few articles focus either on the opportunities self-sovereign identity might offer or on very specific technical features. Studies on real-world applications of organizations using modern self-sovereign identity implementations and design theory are very rare. To fill this gap, we follow the design science research approach to design, implement, and evaluate a self-sovereign identity system to present tax attributes of online retailers. We present four design principles and conclude that the use of self-sovereign identity and blockchain offers opportunities to improve verification processes. Collapse

Abstract: Increasingly intelligent AI artifacts in human-AI systems perform tasks more autonomously as entities that guide human actions, even changing the direction of task delegation between humans and AI. It has been shown that human-AI systems achieve better results when the AI artifact takes the leading role and delegates tasks to a human rather than the other way around. This study presents phenomena, conflicts, and challenges that arise in this process, explored through the theoretical lens of principalagent theory (PAT). The findings are derived from a systematic literature review and an exploratory interview study and are placed in the context of existing constructs of PAT. Furthermore, this article paper identifies new causes of tensions that arise specifically in AI-to-human delegation and calls for special mechanisms beyond the classical solutions of PAT. The paper thus contributes to the understanding of autonomous AI and its implications for human-AI delegation. Collapse

Abstract: Self-sovereign identity represents a novel phenomenon aiming to innovate how entities interact with, manage, and prove identity-related information. As with any emerging phenomenon, user acceptance represents a major challenge for the adoption of Self-sovereign identity. Since previous initiatives for digital identity management solutions have not been successfully adopted while at the same time their benefits are largely driven by network effects, user acceptance research is of particular importance for Self-sovereign identity. Therefore, we investigate the user acceptance of Self-sovereign identity by conducting a qualitative interview study.
