Abstract: Business Analytics has become a common term in all businesses. The importance of analytics in the modern business environment has made it necessary to include analytics as a foundational course for all business majors. There is much debate on what content should be taught in analytics courses and what is the role of computational skills versus the skills needed to interpret and communicate the results that are needed as part of the analytics process? These problems point to the essential difference between analytics and statistics. As we discuss in this paper, analytics is a process that employs statistical tools. We first discuss the business analytics process which we feel should be taught in all business analytics courses. We then propose a two-course sequence, Business Analytics I and Business Analytics II, to be taught as required courses in colleges of business. Collapse

Abstract: Smart meters are often understood as central devices in the smart, flexible and sustainable electric grid, enabling consumers to adapt their electricity use to current supply. In this study we are interested in how different actors in a Swedish context understand the smart meters and fit them into their locally situated practices and contexts, and we analyze the smart meters with the concept of boundary objects as an analytical lens with the purpose of describing and explaining tensions between actors in intended and actual use of smart meters. The case study builds on empirical material from policy documents, web pages and user forums, and include the Swedish government, authorities, grid operators and electricity suppliers as well as consumers. The main conclusions are that consumers were not included in the design and roll-out of the smart meters, resulting in that the available information requires consumers to be active and resourceful experts. Abstract: Research on artificial intelligence technology has not only increased rapidly over recent years, it is also no longer limited to the technical disciplines from which it originates. AI technologies are also at the center of social and sociotechnical studies including those conducted in information systems. Through a scoping review we explore how the research on different kinds of AI technologies has progressed over the past decade. Particularly, we explore whether the research on AI technologies has been informed by and informs our sociotechnical understanding of phenomena related to their design, development and implementation. For this purpose, we develop an analytical framework that differentiates sociotechnical perspectives, categorizes AI technologies into different kinds, and distinguishes research on AI technology design, development, and implementation. The findings from our review point to several directions for future research. Collapse

Abstract: Advances in reinforcement learning and implicit data collection on large-scale commercial platforms mark the beginning of a new era of personalization aimed at the adaptive control of human user environments. We present five emergent features of this new paradigm of personalization that endanger persons and societies at scale and analyze their potential to reduce personal autonomy, destabilize social and political systems, and facilitate mass surveillance and social control, among other concerns. We argue that current data protection laws, most notably the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation, are limited in their ability to adequately address many of these issues. Nevertheless, we believe that IS researchers are well-situated to engage with and investigate this new era of personalization. We propose three distinct directions for ethically aware reinforcement learning-based personalization research uniquely suited to the strengths of IS researchers across the sociotechnical spectrum. Abstract: In the field of information systems, new technologies are giving rise to a wide range of new research topics that present researchers with new challenges. Innovations, such as artificial intelligence, have an enormous impact on society, in addition to technological progress towards automation, above all or precisely because of this. In this context, Society 5.0 was initiated to establish criteria for research and its artifacts. In this paper, evaluation criteria of a Society 5.0 are identified, which should be considered for Design Science Research artifacts in the future. Through a comprehensive literature review, 14 evaluation criteria and a new DSR goal were identified and integrated into the existing framework of Hevner et al. (2018). The paper provides researchers with an augmented DSR evaluation framework with aspects of Society 5.0. Collapse

Abstract: Conversation agents have been attracting increased attention in IS research and increased adoption in practice. They provide an AI-driven conversation-like interface and tap into the anthropomorphism bias of its users. There has been extensive research on improving this effect for over a decade since increased anthropomorphism leads to increased service satisfaction, trust, and other effects on the user. This work examines the current state of research regarding anthropomorphism and anthropomorphic design to guide future research. It utilizes a modified structured literature analysis to extract and classify the examined constructs and their relationships in the hypotheses of current literature. We provide an overview of current research, highlighting focus areas. Based on our results, we formulate several open research questions and provide the IS community with directions for future research. Collapse

Abstract: Human-AI delegation occurs when a human delegates work to an autonomous AI-based system. We report on a simulation study to examine how human-AI delegation dynamically changes in an organizational routine as it is enacted over and over again. We build on findings from previous research and examine the interaction of various human and AI-related factors. We compute the resulting dynamics in terms of complexity representing the degree of uncertainty as to whether delegation takes place. We find that online and offline learning capabilities interact with human willingness in various ways which leads to different, even non-linear changes in the dynamics of human-AI delegation over time. Our study yields implications for research on human-AI delegation, routine dynamics and business process management. We point to a number of practical implications and avenues for future research.
