Abstract: We explore how organizations manage and make sense of data collaboratively to drive digital transformation. We present the results of an in-depth case study of a financial organization that used Data Operations (DataOps) -a collaborative data management practice to transform its digital-first offering initiative and thereby redefining its value proposition. Drawing on sensemaking theory, we develop a process model that explains how organizations use DataOps to perceive cues through data democratization, extract plausible and comprehensive insights from data through data storytelling to make interpretations, and leverage data products to take actions that drive data-driven digital transformation. Our findings have implications for data-driven digital transformation as we show how DataOps constitutes a new class of data management practices that enable collaboration between data managers and data consumers and allow organizations to make evidence-based decisions to drive their digital transformation. Abstract: Using livestreaming to boost sales has become an essential strategy to achieve deeper interactions with customers for many large e-commerce platforms worldwide. Existing livestreaming literature has looked at multiple Chinese e-commerce platforms but not enough attention has been paid to the U.S. market. This study investigates consumer behaviors and the promotion efficacy in the Livestream setting on Amazon Live. We analyze the time patterns of customer engagement and explain why sellers should use different promotion strategies for weekdays and for weekend streamers. Besides, we present evidence that the average video display time per product is crucial for the livestream promotion efficacy and suggest optimal time-exposure intervals as a benchmark for sellers to align with. Abstract: Many organizations are embracing agile values and principles as a strategic priority. However, improving agility is never an easy task. In their agile journeys, organizations still face significant barriers and challenges, such as culture clashes and lack of leadership. Agile principles and values are especially hampered by hierarchical cultures, which are still common in many companies and organizations. Using a sense-making theoretical lens, this study conducted a case study in two organizations to understand agile leadership roles in achieving a balance between agility and hierarchical cultures. The results show how agile leaders play mediator and navigator roles in vertical and horizontal sense-making processes, respectively, to build psychological safety and an agile mindset at an organizational level. Abstract: While venture capital firms are increasingly relying on recommendation models in investment decisions, existing startup recommendation models fail to consider the uniqueness of venture capital context, including two-sided matching between investing and investee firms and a lack of information disclosure requirements on startups. Following the design science research paradigm and guided by the proximity principle from social psychology, we develop a novel framework called SocioLink by depicting and analyzing various relations in a knowledge graph via machine learning. Our experimental results show that SocioLink significantly outperforms state-of-the-art startup recommendation methods in both accuracy and quality. This improvement is driven by not only the inclusion of social relations but also the superiority of modelling relations via knowledge graph. We also develop a web-based prototype to demonstrate explainable artificial intelligence. This work contributes to the FinTech literature by adding an innovative design artifact—SocioLink—for decision support in the investment context. Collapse

Abstract: This study investigates the effect of having a board-level technology committee on the time it takes for firms to identify a data breach. Data breach is one of the most important risks firms face. Boards of directors play a key role in overseeing these risks. The technology committee is an important means through which boards play this role. We present preliminary results using a sample of public firms that experienced data breaches between 2010 and 2021. Our results show that firms with technology committees can identify data breaches more quickly than those without. We also outline our future research agenda to address potential endogeneity issues and explore the underlying mechanisms. This study will contribute to the cybersecurity and corporate governance literature by demonstrating the effect of technology committees on firms' ability to identify data breaches. Collapse

Abstract: In an increasingly complex decision-making environment, the decision information we obtain contains the decision makers’ professional cognition, psychological preference, risk attitude and other hidden uncertainty factors. These hidden inherent factors may cause evaluations being better or worse than their actual level. In order to reduce the bias brought by these factors, they should be identified and eliminated prior to decision making. Hence, a preference determination model is proposed and a risk model is established to eliminate these factors by analyzing the possible impact. Moreover, a more practical probabilistic linguistic model–2-tuple probabilistic linguistic term set is proposed and its related concepts are defined. Furthermore, an integrated decision-making method is provided. Finally, considering the application background of double carbon economy, an example by selecting the best design of electric vehicles charging station is conducted to illustrate the proposed method, and the feasibility and effectiveness are verified. Abstract: As a new shopping paradigm, live streaming e-commerce has undergone rapid development in recent years. However, a higher return rate than that of traditional e-commerce not only affects the consumption experience of users but also is detrimental to the development of the entire industry. Previous studies on product returns have mainly focused on traditional e-commerce, with few studies considering signals in unstructured data formats. The main contribution of our research is the design of a multimodal analytics framework to predict product returns in live streaming e-commerce settings. Multimodal features (e.g., visual, textual, and acoustic) and their correlations extracted from different data sources (product descriptions and live streaming records) are considered in our prediction model. In addition, to better study the impact of anchor speech during live streaming, we propose an acoustic feature extraction model called “OpenTransformer,” which extracts acoustic features of anchor audio and outperforms baselines. We have conducted experiments based on a real-world dataset collected from Taobao live streaming. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of using multimodal signals from products and anchors for product return prediction. The managerial implications of our research are that live streaming platforms and potential consumers can prejudge which sold products will have high return rates in a timely fashion, and based on these predictions, merchants and anchors can better design their product descriptions and speech behaviors. This study thus supports more effective development of live streaming e-commerce markets. Collapse

Abstract: Many companies are using social media as emerging marketing channels in hopes of encouraging engagement by customers. This study explored the effect of multiple social media post cues on customer engagement. By dis­ tinguishing WeChat posts’ characteristics into outer- and inner-layer features, the findings suggest that outerlayer features (title linguistic vividness and top position) have positive effects on reads, and inner-layer fea­ tures (post vividness and containing user-generated content) encouraged more likes, shares, and comments. In addition, by assigning post contents into sales and non-sales-related categories, we found the former attracts more comments and the latter is more helpful in promoting likes and shares. Further, within sales-related posts, storytelling category will receive more likes, whereas functional category boosts the number of shares. Collapse

Abstract: Manipulated reviews can mislead consumers to make inappropriate purchase decisions and reduce consumers’ dependency on online reviews, jeopardizing the platforms’ reputation. Existing studies mainly focus on the detection and the impact of manipulated reviews but are limited in examining the determinants of review legitimacy from the perspective of consumer perception. The current research introduces perceived review manipulation, defined as the extent to which an individual perceives a review as non-authentic with the goal of misleading others and influencing product sales. Using psychological reactance theory as a general framework, we investigate the impact of reviews with deviation from the average ratings on perceived review manipulation and review adoption. We future examine two boundary conditions of the above relationship—the moderating effects of review content concreteness and reviewer rating distribution. We adopt a multi-method approach to the empirical test of the research model. First, three online randomized experiments reveal that: (1) reviews with deviant ratings are more likely to be perceived as manipulated; (2) the relationship in (1) is enhanced when review content is abstract rather than concrete and when a reviewer is usually negative/positive (i.e., his/her rating distribution has positive/negative skewness) based on the deviation direction; and (3) perceived review manipulation negatively influences review adoption. Second, a field study was conducted to support the external validity of our research model. Our findings have academic and practical implications. Collapse
