Abstract: This paper provides the first empirical evidence of consumer responses to autonomous last-mile delivery using Alibaba's recent implementation in Chinese university campuses as a case study. The study leverages customer-level data from three universities over three years, employing a difference-in-differences (DID) approach combined with dynamic matching to estimate the impact of autonomous delivery adoption on order quantities. The results reveal a significant increase in the number of orders following autonomous delivery adoption with a 21% growth. The efficiency and flexibility of autonomous vehicles reduce consumers' travel costs, driving long-term usage and increased sales. However, the value of autonomous delivery diminishes when a fee is charged. The study contributes to our understanding of the value of autonomous last-mile delivery and its potential advantages over traditional courier delivery. Collapse

Abstract: Guided by the Threshold model and Self-justification theory, we propose and test a research model regarding the impact of online discussion activity on users’ behaviors on social media. Specifically, we examine the effects of quote retweeting a tweet related to immigration policies and border issues on users’ subsequent posting behaviors and morality expression. In addition, we test the moderating effect of individual threshold level and behavior-opinion inconsistency on the main effect. Results indicate that individuals, who quote retweeted the selected-topic tweets, are likely to post more topic-related tweets and express more on morality. This impact can be strengthened when individuals have higher threshold levels or larger behavior-opinion inconsistency. These findings provide both theoretical and practical implications for social media governance. Collapse

Abstract: Customer contribution is the most important in the company's profit. However, due to difficulties in data collection, little research has investigated the antecedents and measurement of customer contribution. This study mainly explores the effect of overall service quality and cloud trust on consumer contribution to enhancing online customers' actual purchasing behaviors. Through literature review and expert interview, we identify five factors of overall service quality: website design, fulfillment, customer service, security/privacy, and third-party payment. The research model treats cloud trust as a second-order reflective construct driven by perceived warranty, perceived competence, consumer confidence, source credibility, and diagnosticity. The hypotheses proposed by the study help develop the best customer value management strategy in the electronic commerce industry. Abstract: Forecasting online product sales is essential for retailers and e-commerce platforms, but it can be challenging owing to the complex dynamics and mixed trends in sales data. Popular end-to-end approaches tend to capture spurious correlations in historical data, whereas two-stage approaches that decompose time series and make separate predictions often result in error accumulation. To address these issues, we propose PoissonGP, a novel Bayesian model that employs a non-homogeneous Poisson process with a Gaussian process prior for sales pre­ diction. PoissonGP can capture complex patterns in data with multiple trends and manage distribution shifts caused by changes in long-run sales. Additionally, it incorporates forecast uncertainty and provides interpret­ ability for building efficient and visual decision support systems. Experimental results on several synthetic and empirical datasets suggest that PoissonGP outperforms existing approaches, making it a promising tool for ecommerce platforms. Collapse

Abstract: With the rapid development of mobile devices, spatial crowdsourcing has become an important way to collect data. Task assignment is an important aspect of spatial crowdsourcing. How to improve the quality of the results and decrease the travel distance has been extensively studied in recent years. Existing studies often assume that moving speed is constant or real-time road network information is known. In this paper, the travel time is predicted based on historical data. A framework for time-prediction-based task assignment approach in spatial crowdsourcing (TP-TASC) is proposed. Firstly, a prediction model based on the light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM) is used to predict the travel time of workers with the consideration of the spatial features, the temporal features, and the climate features. Secondly, a heuristic algorithm is proposed to assign the spatial crowdsourcing tasks to appropriate workers. When a task is assigned to a worker, the payment of the worker is also determined automatically. Finally, the simulation experiments based on a real-world taxi-hailing dataset show that the proposed method can not only effectively minimize the task requesters’ waiting time, but also maximize the results’ quality. Abstract: The modern world is confronted with grand challenges, such as those codified by the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. As single organizations are often not capable of addressing a broad set of goals on their own, they are increasingly concerned with creating ecosystems. This is also the case in the domain of e-commerce. Owners of focal platforms in e-commerce ecosystems have the power to implement sustainability initiatives and therefore need to be equipped with an overview of possible initiatives and actionable guidance. To unbox how e-commerce ecosystem participants consider sustainability, we conducted a multi-case study with 99 initiatives collected from sustainability reports. We found that (1) sustainability initiatives particularly focus on reducing inequality and managing climate change as well as (2) manufacturers, sellers, and service providers are the most involved ecosystem participants. Abstract: Major challenges in contemporary information systems development demand new development approaches, such as innovation ecosystems, consisting of a focal innovation platform surrounded by independent developers. The attraction of third-party developers and the amplification of generativity in extension development call for sophisticated boundary resources. As demarcation points between an innovation platform and external developers, boundary resources entail a strategic value and need to be managed carefully. However, existing research does not provide an approach for the holistic management of boundary resources from design to retirement. We apply a design science research approach consisting of two design cycles involving a literature review identifying 26 application lifecycles and the analysis of eight innovation platforms in e-commerce. We evaluated the model for boundary resource management in interviews with nine domain experts. We develop an integrated boundary resource management lifecycle as a specialization of application lifecycle management for the holistic management of boundary resources in innovation ecosystems addressing third-party developers. The boundary resource management lifecycle consists of four layers: boundary resource governance, continuous communication, technical boundary resources, and supplementary boundary resources. It decouples technical and supplementary boundary resources while emphasizing their intertwined nature for ecosystem participants. Owners of innovation platforms can instantiate the reference procedure model for attracting developers. Collapse

Abstract: How value is created through service has recently undergone massive changes. Centralized service provision with clear distinctions between service offerers and beneficiaries is increasingly superseded by value creation within decentralized networks of distributed actors integrating digital resources equally. One of the drivers of this transformation is blockchain technology. Applying the lens of service-dominant logic and discussing examples of blockchain-based decentralized finance, we shed light on how properties of decentralized technology stimulate value creation in service ecosystems. With this conceptual research, we postulate five propositions of decentralized value creation along the axiomatic foundations of the servicedominant logic. We provide first definitions for decentralized service as well as decentralized service ecosystems. Thereby, we contribute with an extension of the service-dominant logic to the context of decentralized ecosystems. To our knowledge, this research is among the first to add to the growing literature on blockchain value creation from a service science perspective. Collapse

Abstract: Digital twins of organizations are software models that leverage operational and other data streams in order to dynamically monitor, analyze and improve organizational activities over time. Despite surging interest in practice, there is little research about this emerging topic. In this report, we draw from a panel discussion that has taken place at the International Conference on Business Process Management in 2021. Panelists and discussants included scholars from the information systems field, organization science, and computer science. Abstract: Digital ventures face significant organizational challenges when scaling, including increasing sales and employee numbers, that withdraw resources from working on their market offerings. While digital entrepreneurship literature stresses the importance of creating processes that balance structure and flexibility to deal with these challenges, business process management (BPM) literature focuses on improving pre-designed business processes. We reconcile these perspectives in a structured literature review to explore how BPM can support digital venturing. We identify synergies and tensions between BPM and digital entrepreneurship and propose three avenues for future research. These include exploring ambidextrous BPM in digital ventures, treating digital venturing as a business process, and developing capabilities for balancing flexibility and structure. We contribute to information systems research by critically reviewing the literature on BPM and digital entrepreneurship and providing potential areas for future investigation. Collapse
