Abstract: Despite being treatable, tuberculosis (TB) remains among the most common causes of death worldwide. One of the countries with the highest-burden from TB is Vietnam. A major factor responsible for the high mortality rate is nonadherence to medication and the subsequent outbreak of multidrug-resistant forms of TB, which are harder to treat and show a lower chance of survival. Existing measures to increase medication adherence focus on monitoring medication intake without considering the reasons for nonadherence – the stigmatization of TB patients. Addressing this problem, we design a concept for a patient-centered, gamified application aiming to reduce stigmatization and empower TB patients. Based on a literature review and interviews with experts from science and practice, including former TB patients, we elaborate on the functionalities and gamified elements of the application. Eventually, we present the design concept for the application based on Lui et al.’s framework for designing a gamified information system. Collapse

Organizations are increasingly adding LC/NC platforms to their IT software portfolios. Thus, it is likely that current business students will encounter such tools and be expected to be able to use them. Abstract: Despite widespread awareness of risks, significant investments in cybersecurity protection, and substantial economic incentives to avoid security breaches, organizations remain vulnerable to phishing attacks. Phishing research has informed effective practical interventions to address phishing susceptibility that emphasize the importance of broadly applicable IT security knowledge. Yet employees still frequently fall victim to phishing attempts. To help understand why, we conceptualize phishing susceptibility as the failure to differentiate between deceptive and legitimate information processing requests that occur within the context of an employee's typical job responsibilities. We apply this contextual lens to identify characteristics of knowledge workers' organizational task and social context that may enhance or diminish performance in detecting deception in phishing email attempts. To test our hypotheses, we conducted a study in which employees of the finance division of a large university encountered simulated email-based phishing attempts as part of their normal work routine. We found evidence supporting our hypotheses that an individual's susceptibility to phishing attacks is influenced by their position in the knowledge flows of the organization and by the impact of workgroup responsibilities on their cognitive processing. We contend that phishing susceptibility is not merely a matter of IT security knowledge but is also influenced by contextualized, multilevel influences on information processing. As phishing attacks are increasingly targeted to specific organizational settings, it is even more important to incorporate this contextualized information processing view of phishing susceptibility. Abstract: This article provides an overview of the findings from the Information Systems (IS) Well-Being Project that was started in the fall of 2020. There were two goals of this project: 1) to understand the physical, mental, social, and financial well-being of IS academics during the COVID-19 pandemic, and 2) to theorize the downstream effects of the pandemic on the health of the IS research ecosystem. This investigation surfaced a troubling phenomenon that we coined "the IS scholarly divide". This editorial develops the theoretical underpinnings for the scholarly divide and posits the taxonomy of the divide. Finally, we explore the effects and forward some possible remedies. Collapse

Abstract: In this study, we propose and examine the concept of information security ignorance, which is an individual’s chosen state of remaining underinformed about information security. Ignorance may be a rational choice for individuals when feeling overwhelmed by the available information. The findings of this study, based on the analysis of 319 survey responses, suggest that media and interpersonal communication influence information security ignorance. However, personal traits, including locus of control, intellectual curiosity, and computer anxiety, play a stronger role in shaping ignorance. Security ignorance was found to be positively related to the perception that the Internet is a safe place. Collapse

Abstract: Current online review systems widely suffer from rating biases. Biased ratings can lead to violations of customer trust and failures of business intelligence. Hence, both practitioners and researchers have directed massive efforts toward curbing rating biases. In this paper, we investigate bandwagon bias, the rating distortion resulting from individuals posting ratings shifted toward the displayed average rating, and propose a bias warning approach to mitigate this bias. Drawing on the flexible correction model, the theory of valuation in behavioral economics, and previous warning research, we design an effective warning strategy in two steps. First, we start with the risk-alert warning strategy, which prior research has widely employed, and rationalize its deficiencies by synthesizing theoretical analysis and extant empirical evidence. Second, considering the deficiencies, we identify a supplementary content design factor-the ranking task-and construct a risk-alert-with-ranking-task warning strategy. We then empirically test the effects of the two warning strategies on individual ratings in cases in which bandwagon bias either occurs or does not occur in individuals' initial assessments. The results of four controlled experiments indicate that (1) the risk-alert strategy can reduce bandwagon bias in individual ratings but will elicit unwanted rating distortions when bandwagon bias does not occur in individuals' initial assessments, and (2) the risk-alert-with-ranking-task strategy can mitigate bandwagon bias while avoiding the unwanted rating distortions above and can thus function as an effective warning strategy. Our research contributes to the literature by proposing an effective debiasing solution for bandwagon bias and a bias warning approach for online rating debiasing, which can help increase rating informativeness on online platforms. Abstract: Internet users frequently encounter diverse data requests, and their privacy disclosure decisions have attracted massive practical and scholarly attention. Nevertheless, how the accumulation of users’ disclosure-related ex­ periences influences their future privacy disclosure decisions is still under-explored. In this paper, we theoreti­ cally derive and examine the impacts of two types of disclosure-related experiences—privacy disclosure and privacy invasion experiences. These experiences respectively represent user experiences in the participation and feedback stages of privacy disclosure events. We draw on the systematic-heuristic model of information pro­ cessing and the privacy calculus model to raise the core speculation that users’ disclosure-related experiences exert multiple forms of effects on their privacy disclosure decisions through multiple theoretical routes (i.e., polymorphic experience effects). To test this speculation, we conducted two online survey studies (N = 485, N = 324) and yielded three major findings: (1) users’ privacy disclosure experiences can promote their information disclosure intentions through direct and mediation routes (i.e., habituation effects); (2) users’ privacy invasion experiences can deter their information disclosure intentions through mediation and moderation routes, yet the latter varied across the investigated contexts (i.e., vigilance effects); (3) the moderating role of privacy disclosure experiences and the directly influencing role of privacy invasion experiences were largely insignificant. Our research reveals the polymorphic impacts of disclosure-related experiences on Internet users’ privacy disclosure decisions and lays the foundation for future theoretical and practical work. Abstract: Blockchain adoption in supply chains has received much research attention in recent years. Luxury brands have started to use blockchains for supply chain provenance, anti-counterfeiting, and customer loyalty. Blockchain has good potential for closed-loop supply chains, circular economy, and other sustainability objectives. In this short paper we examine the blockchain use for anti-counterfeiting in luxury resale markets and investigate the factors affecting blockchain adoption. We perform a systematic review of 230 peer-reviewed journal articles related to potential use of blockchain in luxury and resale markets. Motivated by the review, we conduct case studies of luxury brands and resale platforms. After reviewing academic studies and the real-world adoption of blockchain to date, we investigate the factors that may further spur blockchain adoption for anti-counterfeiting in luxury resale markets. Abstract: Online petitions have been a popular and effective means for the public to voice their opinions and potentially influence society. E-petitioners can be regarded as influencers or leaders who leverage their social impacts beyond the digital world. In the current study, we collected 41,952 e-petitions from change.org and used an advanced text-mining model (Roberta-base model) to detect petitioners' Big Five personality traits. Then, by applying the trait theory and leadership literature, we developed a research model and provided an in-deep understanding of how petitioners' personalities can influence the petition's success. Our findings indicate that while neuroticism turns out to have a positive effect, agreeableness and conscientiousness are significant negative factors that can hinder the success of an online petition.
