Abstract: Relationship maintenance needs sincere efforts made by both self and relational partners. Yet, technological development provides people with convenient access to help from external sources-other people online, or even tools powered by artificial intelligence (AI)-when performing certain relational activities. By reducing personal effort, receiving external augmentation might compromise the desired effort level in a close relationship. To explore people's normative evaluations of such behaviors, we conducted a survey experiment (N = 114) wherein participants provided their evaluations of 25 common relational activities in friendship maintenance. Most activities were considered as requiring sincere efforts and subjective in nature. We found that the more sincere efforts and the more subjectivity a relational activity required, the more inappropriate people considered it being augmented by another human or AI system. These results together advance our knowledge of how technology-mediated interactions are judged in interpersonal relationships. Collapse

Abstract: Due to the highly uncertain nature of the business environment, firms have been increasingly improving their supply chain resilience, especially in the context of supply chain disruptions. In this study, we examine supply chain resilience from the perspective of business-IT alignment, and further explore the moderating role of market orientation. Based on data collected from 177 firms in China, we test our model by using polynomial regression analysis and response surface methodology. Results show that a positive relationship between business-IT alignment and supply chain resilience exists, and a such relationship is further strengthened by market orien­ tation. Our study is one of the first attempts to explore the effect of business-IT alignment on supply chain resilience. The theoretical contributions and managerial implications of the current study are also discussed. Collapse

Abstract: Future forms of work are changing human behaviour and require the embedding of new technologies such as virtual reality (VR). These technologies can affect existing work processes in their original sequence. There is already research on interruptions in the work context that shows negative effects on human behaviour. But what if the interruptions are intentionally built into a process designed to support the designers' work? This research investigates how technically induced hybrid interruptions affectcomputer-aided design processes through VR. To that end, a VR-based activity was developed, and 17 staff members were surveyed about their engagement with it. This provided insights into how hybrid interruptions can be perceived and under which conditions VR-induced hybrid interruptions are beneficial. Advantages may lie, for example, in process quality. Thus, we contribute to research by providing a broader understanding of interruptions and supporting organizations to consider the identified influencing conditions in their processes. Collapse

Abstract: Teleworkers who live and work in the same space are vulnerable to conflicts between personal life and work (LWC). The Covid-19 lockdowns increased the intensity and risk of LWC and changed telework conditions, confronting teleworkers with difficult personal situations and often ill-equipped telework environments. To develop a better understanding of the effects of different LWC dimensions (e.g., time, strain, behavior) on work exhaustion, job satisfaction, routine and innovative job performance and the role of the IT telework environment among teleworkers in the Covid-19 pandemic, a research model based on a sample of 249 teleworkers was developed and validated. The findings show that LWC has adverse effects on job outcomes and that the IT telework environment moderates these effects. The study contributes to the telework and role conflict literature by revealing the essential role of the IT telework environment and by differentiating between routine and innovative job performance among teleworkers. Abstract: At the core of reward-based crowdfunding (RBC) is the reward menu. Carefully constructed reward menus can impact fundraising success significantly. For example, an oft-discussed approach to influencing purchasing decisions is introducing an irrelevant option into a consumer’s choice set—a decoy option—making another, often more valuable, option more attractive. This phenomenon is also known as the attraction effect. Prior research, however, has found mixed evidence for its occurrence in applied settings because it has largely employed simplified attribute presentation—with only numeric attributes such as ratings—and hypothetical choices, which had no economic consequences. Hence, researchers questioned the practical significance of the attraction effect. In this paper, we examine whether the attraction effect will manifest in an applied setting such as the crowdfunding context, where product attributes are both numerical (e.g., price) and nonnumerical (e.g., content of a product), choices have economic consequences, and organizations offer several menu options to consumers. We draw upon the salience theory and propose four hypotheses, suggesting that introducing an irrelevant decoy option in choice sets, created digitally in reward menus, may lead backers to choose higher-priced options. We conducted seven online experiments and a field study on Kickstarter (in total, n = 3,998 participants), with increasing levels of similarity with RBC. We found that the attraction effect significantly shifted backers’ preferences from a low-priced to a high-priced reward by 18.8% to 28.2% in different settings, highlighting the substantial potential of properly designed digital reward menus to influence funders’ choices. Given that researchers have expressed skepticism about the attraction effect in applied settings, our results are particularly significant, suggesting that information systems design can influence choice behavior. Abstract: An increasing number of companies have implemented digital platforms to attract complementors who create innovations on the platform. Establishing such digital platforms is a challenge for incumbent companies because they lack related experience and capabilities. In particular, boundary resources that are the interface between the platform and complementors need to be well-designed to attract complementors and keep them engaged. We propose that lead complementor involvement helps incumbent companies to improve the design of the platform boundary resources. In a multi-year action research study, we established lead complementor involvement in the boundary resource design of a digital platform for automotive onboard apps at the BMW Group and evaluated how boundary resources improved. Along three episodes, we illustrate that lead complementor involvement was effective and we summarise our findings in four propositions: (1) lead complementor involvement facilitates platform emergence for incumbent companies by enhancing boundary resource design, (2) lead complementor involvement is more efficient in higher platform layers, (3) lead complementor involvement is facilitated by an increase of intensity and frequency of interactions between complementors and platform owner and (4) establishing a complementor community helps to continuously identify opportunities for lead complementor involvement. We contribute to the information systems literature on platform emergence and design by focusing on the process of designing boundary resources and by considering the heterogeneity of complementors. Furthermore, we contextualise the concept of lead user involvement in the domain of digital platforms and compare and contrast lead complementors and lead users. Collapse

Abstract: Employees find contemporary ways of working very demanding. Blurred boundaries between life and work cause technostress and considerable mental strain. To overcome these shortcomings, digital health interventions (DHIs) possess the power to prevent employees from suffering health-related issues at and due to their work. We developed a theoretically sound instrument employing a unified conceptualization of health beliefs, technology acceptance, privacy concerns, and autonomy to predict preventive health and technology use behavior at work. Accordingly, we conducted a survey-based study to investigate the factors influencing DHIs use for preventive health behavior at work. Our empirical results emphasize that employees undertake a cost-benefit analysis, valuing the benefits of reducing health threats and the perceived usefulness of DHIs for taking preventive actions at work. We confirm that privacy concerns and autonomy play a vital role. Our research outlines new avenues in DHIs use by contributing a valid theoretical framework for healthier work environments. through behavior change approaches (Pagoto and Bennett, 2013). For instance, wearables for selftracking (Giddens et al., 2017) that enable self-care and autonomy at work, enhance employees' health and well-being (Lupton, 2016). Against this background, we ask which beliefs and perceptions are important in evaluating the outcome of a particular behavior (Agarwal and Karahanna, 2000) as, for example, using DHIs for preventive health behavior at work. Surprisingly, despite the radical challenges of work practices with severe implications for employees, and the grown work around health interventions, the discourse on research referring to DHIs as facilitators of preventive health behavior in organizations is still in its infancy (Melzner et al., 2014;Yassaee and Mettler, 2019;Oesterle et al., 2019;Howarth et al., 2018). We shift our attention from technology use only and move toward an understanding of preventive health and technology use behavior, supported by DHIs in occupational settings. To address our research objectives, we refer to and extend previous research on preventive health behavior and technology use with multiple technological options beyond a narrow focus on which technology to use. Our work is rooted in research on health beliefs, based on the health belief model (HBM) (Rosenstock, 1974) considering the potential to initiate and change health behavior patterns (Abraham and Sheeran, 2005), and assuming that individuals attempt to avoid perceived health threats (Abraham and Sheeran, 2005;Rosenstock, 1974;Champion and Skinner, 2008). Additionally, we investigate employees' behavior in DHIs use at work. Interestingly, the decision-making process regarding technology use for health-related reasons differs from similar processes in other contexts (Sun et al., 2013). Hence, to understand employees' preventive health behavior supported by technology use, we expect that they intend to use DHIs, which, according to the technology acceptance model (TAM) (Davis, 1989;Venkatesh et al., 2003), is a result of systemrelated characteristics that we combine with health-related variables. Further, in offering voluntary DHIs use at work to encourage employees' empowerment, we have to consider their privacy concerns and autonomy, to engage them in healthy behavior at work (Roossien et al., 2021). As it is not clear whether or how health beliefs influence preventive health and technology use behavior at work, nor whether there is a link in-between, this paper seeks to answer the following research question: What impact do health beliefs, privacy concerns, and autonomy have on employees' DHIs use for preventive health behavior at work? More specifically, our research objectives are (1) to explore whether health beliefs influence employees' preventive health behavior at work, (2) to predict employees' technology use behavior of DHIs, (3) to empirically validate the link between health beliefs, DHIs use, and preventive health behavior, and (4) to theorize the influence of privacy concerns and autonomy on DHIs use at work. Our study follows the call to unfold and predict preventive health behavior through complex causal models (Champion and Skinner, 2008) and to demonstrate the interventions' effectiveness (Abraham and Sheeran, 2005). While DHIs have the potential to intervene in unhealthy (working) behavior, we suggest an analysis of the health-related beliefs and factors related to technology use. Therefore, our theoretical framework is to develop a deeper understanding of HBM and TAM as theoretical lenses and their interplay and to offer new perspectives that could ensure healthier work environments. In a quantitative research setting, we use an online-based survey to evaluate our hypothesized relations empirically. Our findings provide compelling evidence that technology use and preventive health behavior do not emerge in isolation. More precisely, our study demonstrates the relationship between health beliefs and system-related characteristics in DHIs use at work. These results help organizations to understand the conditions under which DHIs are likely to have an impact on employees' preventive health behavior and well-being in occupational settings, which can in turn develop into a meaningful quality of work (Rongen et al., 2013). The paper is structured as follows: Section 2 introduces the theoretical background for research on preventive health and technology use behavior and the development of our theoretical conceptualization for the quantitative analysis. Section 3 introduces our survey-based approach to address the research question. We present our analysis in Section 4. Abstract: Due to their constant interactions with IT, users accumulate beliefs they hold toward their selves as IT users. Given the ambivalent nature of IT, individuals may develop ambiguous and incoherent beliefs toward their selves as IT users. This can lead users to limit the efficacy of their interactions with IT and negatively affect their overall perception of themselves. This paper conceptualizes the IT Self-Concept Clarity (ITSCC) construct to improve the predictive power of models interested in the users' daily interaction with IT. We also develop a measurement scale for ITSCC. We validate the scale by performing three activities. We perform a pre-test, a cross-sectional survey study and an experimental manipulation study. We outline the relationship between ITSCC and computer self-efficacy and selfesteem. We also validate the effect of the experimental manipulation on our scale, which will allow assessing the causal impact of ITSCC in future studies. Collapse

Abstract: This study investigates the differential effects of badge repeatability and level on users' knowledge sharing behaviors in an online Q&A (Question & Answer) community. Drawing on reinforcement theory and attribution theory of motivation, we conjecture that nonrepeatable badges reinforce individuals' behaviors primarily by promoting internal attributions that strengthen their self-determination motivation, while repeatable badges reinforce people's behaviors mainly via external attributions that undermine their selfdetermination motivation. By using fixed-effects models to analyze a panel data, we observe that nonrepeatable badges can better motivate users to share their knowledge than repeatable badges. In addition, the results show that attaining a higher level of nonrepeatable badges is associated with an increased effect for knowledge sharing, and that attaining a higher level of repeated badges leads to a decreased effect. These findings can contribute to extant literature by offering a probable explanation regarding why some gamified awards can motivate people better than others. Collapse
