Abstract: A smart service system is defined as one that can understand a customer's situation and then recommend the best solutions to the customer, thereby increasing customer value creation. Exploring knowledge related to customers, context, and services/products is essential to offer services intelligently. Ontological approaches are promising methods for organizing and exploring knowledge due to their strong capacity of expression and reasoning. Smart service systems leveraging ontologies have been investigated for decades, but the conception and design of those systems remain difficult tasks due to the lack of an overall framework served as a guideline. This paper aims at conducting a literature review of ontology-based smart service systems to address this challenge. The findings include a classification and an analysis to determine essential elements of those systems, identified research gaps, and suggestions for future research. Abstract: Context awareness systems, a subcategory of intelligent systems, are concerned with suggesting relevant products/services to users' situations as smart services. One key element for improving smart services’ quality is to organize and manipulate contextual data in an appropriate manner to facilitate knowledge generation from these data. In this light, a knowledge-based approach, can be used as a key component in context-aware systems. Context awareness and knowledge-based systems, in fact, have been gaining prominence in their respective domains for decades. However, few studies have focused on how to reconcile the two fields to maximize the benefits of each field. For this reason, the objective of this paper is to present a literature review of how context-aware systems, with a focus on the knowledge-based approach, have recently been conceptualized to promote further research in this area. In the end, the implications and current challenges of the study will be discussed. Collapse

Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an enforced ‘big bang’ adoption of working from home, involving the rapid implementation and diffusion of digital collaboration technologies. This radical shift to enforced working from home led to substantial changes in the practice of work. Using a qualitative research approach and drawing on the interview accounts of 29 knowledge workers required to work from home during the pandemic, the study identified five sociomaterial practices that were significantly disrupted and required reconfiguration of their constitutive social and material elements to renew them. The paper further shows evidence of the ongoing evolution of those sociomaterial practices among the participants, as temporary breakdowns in their performance led to further adjustments and fine-tuning. The study extends the body of knowledge on working from home and provides a fine-grained analysis of specific complexities of sociomaterial practice and change as actors utilize conceptual and contextual sensemaking to perceive and exploit possibilities for action in their unfolding practice of work. Against the backdrop of the increasing adoption of hybrid working in the aftermath of the pandemic, the paper offers four pillars derived from the findings that support the establishment of a conducive working from home environment. Abstract: Social media platforms enable like-minded users to form online groups, interact and thereby contribute to ideological polarisation. However, online groups also polarise along a continuum of liking or affect for their group compared to other groups. We explore affective polarisation on social media and its implications for online intergroup interaction. Using social identity theory, we investigate the effects of group identification, passion, and affective polarisation on social media users' intergroup approach and avoidance tendencies. We test the research model in the context of political groups on social media. We find group identification contributes to affective polarisation by strengthening favouritism for the ingroup rather than hostility for the outgroup. Although those with greater group identification prefer to confront (approach) the opposition group on social media, the behaviour is a function of inflated feelings for the ingroup more so than animus for the outgroup. Interestingly, users with greater affective polarisation tend to shut out (avoid) the rival group on social media. Our findings imply affective polarisation contributes to group isolation that may exacerbate ideological polarisation. Collapse

Abstract: Law enforcement and police service are, related to the proposed AI Act of the European Commission, part of the high-risk area of artificial intelligence (AI). As such, in the area of digital government and high-risk AI systems exists a particular responsibility for ensuring ethical and social aspects with AI usage. The AI Act also imposes explainability requirements on AI, which could be met by the usage of explainable AI (XAI). The literature has not yet addressed the characteristics of the high-risk area law enforcement and police service in relation to compliance with explainability requirements. We conducted 11 expert interviews and used the grounded theory method to develop a grounded model of the phenomenon AI explainability requirements compliance in the context of law enforcement and police service. We discuss how the model and the results can be useful to authorities, governments, practitioners and researchers alike. Collapse

Abstract: Explainability in artificial intelligence (AI) is crucial for ensuring transparency, accountability, and risk mitigation, thereby addressing digital responsibility, social, ethical and ecological aspects of information system usage. AI will be regulated in the European Union (EU) through the AI Act. This regulation introduces requirements for explainable AI (XAI). This paper examines which requirements for XAI are regulated and which metrics could be used for measuring compliance. For this purpose, legal texts from the European Parliament and Council were analyzed in order to ascertain XAI requirements. Additionally, XAI taxonomies and metrics were collected. The results reveal, that the AI Act provides abstract regulations for explainability, making it challenging to define specific metrics for achieving explainability. As a solution, we propose a socio-technical metric classification for measuring compliance. Further studies should analyze forthcoming explainability requirements to make AI verifiable and minimize risks arising from AI. Collapse

Abstract: Digital identities (eID) are one of the crucial building blocks of a digital infrastructure. There are major differences between countries of the European Union when it comes to the success of digital identity infrastructure, yet, we lack insights into the conditions for successful digital identity infrastructure evolution (eID evolution success). Taking the outset in a digital infrastructure perspective, we conducted 18 expert interviews in the context of the European Union with the focal case of the eID infrastructure in Germany.
