Abstract: Does strategy matter for early-stage health start-ups seeking to build platform ecosystems? Drawing on a multi-year ethnographic study of two early-stage platform start-ups, we analyze their strategic decision-making process as they decide between refining their core service or attracting complementary services. Fundamentally, we seek to understand to which degree startup teams formulate such strategies, stick to them, or adapt to a changing opportunity landscape in such a highly regulated environment. Our work sheds light on the relevance of strategic intent, opportunistic behavior, and simple luck in the build-up of nascent digital health platform ecosystems. Preliminary results reveal that start-ups frequently adapt their strategy to the environmental dynamics, and not every start-up can capitalize on opportunities presented by easing regulations or use them strategically. Our work provides practical implications for policymakers aiming to foster opportunities for healthcare start-ups and for early-stage start-ups seeking to navigate the complex healthcare environment. Abstract: During the COVID-19 pandemic, Nordic higher education institutions (HEIs) as any other learning providers had to abruptly switch from onsite in-person delivery strategies to a more 'pandemic-friendly' online mode. To manage these emergent transformations of learning environments successfully, development of teachers' digital competence became pivotal. This study investigates the experiences of teachers and students from HEIs in the Nordic countries of the impact of the transition to online teaching during the pandemic crisis on teachers' professional digital competence (TPDC). The findings indicate that the pandemic promoted teachers' creativity and innovation, enabling individual initiatives, openness, and decentralization that demonstrates the Nordic HEIs readiness to mobilize relevant digital infrastructure and exert academic freedom in times of crises. The study further broadens the concept of TPDC involving aspects of well-being and physical environment as additional indicators, to ensure equality, inclusion, and sustainability in the future of online education in higher education. Abstract: Mobile platforms provide important entrepreneurial opportunities by facilitating access to a global market composed of more than a hundred countries. These opportunities are crucial for mobile app startups as they seek to reach a wider audience and accelerate growth. Nevertheless, performing in foreign countries is challenging as mobile app startups face a "foreignness liability" since they are competing against complementors (i.e., app developers) who have experience in their domestic market. We offer a research model that assesses the impact of cultural distance on the app-level performance of mobile app startups in foreign countries. We hypothesize the moderating effects of investor-consumer cultural distance and environmental characteristics within foreign countries. We test the model using a dataset of over 550 mobile app startups operating on the iOS platform. Our findings support our hypotheses and provide insights into whether mobile platforms are level playing fields. Our study sheds light on the interactions between a startup and its investors' cultural distances highlighting configurations of cultural distance that are beneficial for app performance in foreign countries when the environment is stable or uncertain. Abstract: Health information needed along the transitions in care includes functional status such as self-care abilities assessments. Despite current federal efforts to support interoperability of functional status data, gaps still exist. Functional status assessments are included in data collection instruments widely used in four post acute care (PAC) settings, with each type of setting using a different standard instrument. These various instruments lack a shared standard for the content (meaning) of functional assessment items, necessitating mapping to a standard data terminology. Analysis indicates complete LOINC representation and incomplete SNOMED representation among functional status items and instruments. The new U.S. Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) data standard has not included functional status in the next version to be adopted due in part to insufficiently defined use cases. The Post-Acute Care Interoperability Workgroup (PACIO) produced a FHIR implementation guide for functional status based on a use case. Gaps persist in PAC interoperability adoption. Collapse

Abstract: In 2022, StateU, a large public university in the United States, embarked on a project to collect and use personal pronouns in its information systems. The project lead and functional expert was StateU's Administrative Leader. As she prepared for the first project meeting, she reflected on lessons learned from a past project she led to expand the collection of student gender data to record legal sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation. That project involved navigating challenging decisions about user interface design, underlying databases, data privacy and security, and reporting, underpinned by the desire to best serve minoritized and vulnerable populations. She recalled that: "A society with more data about LGBTQ people is not automatically a society that is better for LGBTQ people". Abstract: Disinformation campaigns spread rapidly through social media and can cause serious harm, especially in crises, ranging from confusion about how to act to a loss of trust in government agencies. Therefore, the prevention of digital disinformation campaigns represents an important research topic and concern that needs to be considered by government agencies to protect public security. However, previous research in the field of information systems focused on the technical possibilities to detect and combat disinformation (e.g., by social bots). In this article, we synthesize information systems literature on disinformation prevention measures by government agencies and discuss these measures from an ethical and legal perspective. We conclude by proposing questions for future research on the prevention of disinformation campaigns by government agencies from an IS, ethical, and legal perspective. Thereby, we contribute to a balanced discussion on the prevention of digital disinformation campaigns and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration in future research. Collapse

Abstract: Despite energy efficiency measures, global energy demand has gradually increased due to global economic growth and changes in consumer behavior. Even if people are aware of the problem and want to change their energy consumption, they have difficulty acting on their attitudes. This is called the attitude-behavior gap. To narrow this gap and reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions, behavioral interventions beyond techno­ logical advances must be considered. A promising intervention is nudging, which uses insights from behavioral economics to gently nudge individuals toward more sustainable choices. In this study, we investigate how modifying digital choice architectures with nudges can be used to influence consumer energy conservation behavior in smart home applications (SHAs). We conducted an online experiment with 391 participants to test the effectiveness of the following three digital nudges in an SHA: self-commitment, reminder, and social norm nudge. While the results of a structural equation model indicated no effect on bridging the gap between attitude and behavior, we found the potential to promote energy conservation with two nudge types. Thus, this paper makes substantial contribution to persuasive and information systems-enabled sustainability for a better world in the form of digital nudges for emerging technologies. Collapse

Abstract: Feedback on task performance is a key component for improvements and learning for many behaviors. Although the IS literature has provided relevant individual contributions on the design, outcomes, and mechanisms of performance feedback, there exists no overarching conceptual framework or theory to integrate those results for a holistic explanation of behavior change through IS-enabled feedback. Further, an overview of the existing literature to facilitate theory development is still missing. This paper presents a systematic literature review on performance feedback in the IS discipline by reviewing 23 articles from high-quality journals. The review provides an overview on the research landscape by coding characteristics of feedback systems and outcomes of the research. It highlights four behavioral mechanisms that performance feedback influences to improve task performance (attention, behavioral control, personal norms, and perceived social norms) and concludes by presenting possible directions for future research.
