Abstract: The increasing prevalence of digital and blended learning scenarios in higher education fosters the need for students to have strong self-regulated learning competencies. However, in particular, in digital learning environments, many students struggle to develop effective learning behaviors but often avoid seeking support. To address this issue, Behavior Change Support Systems (BCSS) in form of smartphone apps can provide valuable guidance towards self-regulated learning. While BCSS have been successfully implemented in the health context, research in the educational context is limited. This study addresses this research gap by presenting the development of a BCSS targeting selfregulated learning and investigating its ability to promote students' use continuance through two motivational design principles (rewards vs. social comparison). Using the Perceived Persuasiveness Questionnaire, significant differences are found in students' perceived effectiveness and perceived social support of the BCSS versions. Social comparison is identified as more effective than rewards for high use continuance. Collapse

Abstract: With the advent of virtual reality (VR), immersive learning environments are considered as viable elearning environments. Yet, there is still no clarity on the long-term success with VR when learning. We examine the short-term and long-term learning outcomes between an illustrated text, 2D video, and VR. This is achieved through an experiment in which the effects of the three technologies on learning outcomes were measured immediately and 14 days after the learning phase. In the short-term, VR had a larger effect on subjectively and objectively measured knowledge gain as well as on motivation than the two other learning environments. In the long-term, VR did outperform the 2D video material on the desktop only when measured objectively. Our results imply that VR can transfer knowledge to the long-term better than other learning environments but more effort needs to be made to make the learning success more obvious on a subjective level.We draw our arguments for the effect of VR on learning outcome mainly from Multimedia Learning Theory (Mayer and Moreno, 1998). Abstract: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is usually classified into Crohn's disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC). Inconclusive cases are diagnosed with IBD unclassified (IBD-U). In 2018, IBD patients shared their disease history on Twitter and signed their tweets with #MyIBDHistory. In this research, we analyzed those tweets and built a logistic regression classifier that predicts patients' IBD type. We constructed tabular classification features and assessed their importance using the regression coefficients and association rules. We identified key features that distinguished CD from UC and used the classifier to predict the disease type of IBD-U patients. Our results correlated with IBD-related research. The two most prominent features that tilted the classification towards CD were suffering from fistulas or nutrient deficiencies. We identified gender differences in disease perspective prior to diagnosis. The research shows that the personal information shared by patients on Twitter can enhance existing medical knowledge regarding their disease. Collapse

Abstract: Internet of Things (IoT) technologies are increasingly being integrated into occupational health and safety (OHS) practices; however, their adoption raises significant privacy concerns. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has established the requirement for organizations to conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) prior to processing personal data, emphasizing the need for privacy safeguards in the workplace. Despite this, the GDPR provisions related to the IoT, particularly in the area of OHS, lack clarity and specificity. This research aims to bridge this gap by proposing a tailored method for conducting PIAs in the OHS context, with a particular focus on addressing the "how to" aspect of the assessment process. The proposed method integrates insights from domain experts, relevant literature sources, and GDPR regulations, ultimately leading to the development of an online PIA tool. These principles include:Lawfulness, Fairness, and Transparency: Personal data must be processed lawfully, fairly, and transparently, with individuals being informed about how their data will be used.Purpose Limitation: Personal data should be collected for specified, unambiguous and relevant purposes and should not be further processed in a way that is incompatible with those purposes. Abstract: This research examines how incumbent firms decide on the degree of involvement of technology players in their digital strategies, by integrating insights from digital innovation and digital platform research. We conducted an embedded case study on the adoption of Google's Android Automotive OS and Google Automotive Services by the automotive industry, using semi-structured interviews with industry experts and senior decision-makers. We build on affordance-actualization theory to develop a grounded model of uncertainty reallocation consisting of five aggregate dimensions: (1) external digital platform by tech firm, (2) incumbent firm and its goals, (3) uncertainty tradeoffs and affordance of reallocation, (4) strategic actions by incumbent firm, and (5) shortand long-term outcomes. Our results provide valuable insights into the selection of nonbinary platform strategies and the effects of various levels of technology firm involvement. This addition to the knowledge base of the information systems discipline provides practical guidance for incumbent firms navigating digital transformation. Collapse

Abstract: Despite the enthusiasm for engaging in interorganizational collaboration to enable digital product innovation, firms often face challenges in integrating knowledge across organizational boundaries. Our research examines how collaborating firms use Interorganizational Systems (IOS) tools and project coordinators to overcome knowledge boundaries in different types of ideation tasks. Drawing on boundary-spanning theory, we concep­ tualize IOS tools as boundary objects, project coordinators as boundary spanners, and the interdependence of ideation tasks as moderators of the impacts of boundary objects and spanners on knowledge integration. Our findings suggest that IOS tools help overcome syntax and semantic knowledge boundaries by transferring and sharing information when the interdependence of idea implementation tasks is high, and project coordinators help overcome pragmatic knowledge boundaries by building reciprocity of innovation participants when the interdependence of idea generation tasks is high. Our research contributes to value co-creation literature by developing a boundary-spanning mechanism to explain the roles of boundary objects and boundary spanners in overcoming different knowledge boundaries to enable digital product innovation at the inter-firm level. Abstract: Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) has been identified as a significant public health issue in China. Numerous studies have demonstrated that using automated external defibrillators (AEDs) can significantly improve the survival rate of OHCA patients, but their low utilization rate is partly due to the accessibility of AED deployment sites. This study collects the location information of AED devices in three representative cities in China: Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen and then combines the kilometer population grid data (2021) with the AED geographic location data for visualization and data analysis through QGIS and Kepler.GL. Our model considers population distribution, subway, and road traffic factors and proposes a new method for AED index measurement. Through empirical analysis, we discovered that the existing AED distribution has an issue with unequal resource allocation. Thus, we have proposed specific suggestions on quantity and specific zones for AED deployment. Furthermore, this study proposes three specific suggestions for the problems currently in developing AEDs in China. Collapse

Abstract: Peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platforms offer Internet users the possibility to borrow money from peers without the intervention of traditional financial institutions. Due to the anonymity on such social lending platforms, determining the creditworthiness of borrowers is of high importance. Beyond the disclosure of traditional financial variables that enable risk assessment, peer-to-peer lending platforms offer the opportunity to reveal additional information on the loan purpose. We investigate whether this self-disclosed information is used to show reliability and to outline creditworthiness of platform participants. We analyze more than 70,000 loans funded at a leading social lending platform. We show that linguistic and content-based factors help to explain a loan's probability of default and that content-based factors are more important than linguistic variables. Surprisingly, not every information provided by borrowers underlines creditworthiness. Instead, certain aspects rather indicate a higher probability of default. Our study provides important insights on information disclosure in the context of peer-to-peer lending, shows how to increase performance in credit scoring and is highly relevant for the stakeholders on social lending platforms. Abstract: While most studies on digital financial inclusion highlight its positive aspects, we focus on the surveillance phenomenon by investigating the role played by microcredit agents who operate digital financial platforms. We combine the concepts of surveillance capitalism and platform capitalism within the digital financial inclusion process and propose a surveilled inclusion model that considers the role of human agents interacting with clients to expand the network effects and control of the digital platform in a dialectic interplay. We combine an instrumental/in-depth case study and critical hermeneutics as methodological strategies to produce results that help to uncover the hidden agenda of social fintech organizations that use digital platforms to provide microcredit. In addition, we expand Zuboff's concept of surveillance capitalism by including the role of microcredit agents who reinforce the imprisonment of clients in endless cycles of payment and credit renewal. For HICSS-56, research was solicited from multiple disciplines, including but not limited to business; cognitive science and psychology; information technology; sociology; media studies and communications; law; health, wellness, and medical sciences; and emerging technology. In total, eleven manuscripts from multiple disciplines were received and subjected to peer and editorial review. Of those eleven, five were accepted for presentation and publication.
