Abstract: This literature review systematically analyses recent studies on the effective design of e-commerce presences in order to provide a state-of-the-art overview on this important topic. To do so, our review focuses on the level of webshop elements (i.e., the building blocks to design webshops), which we cluster in eight categories (e.g., color usage, music usage, rich media usage), derived from previous website quality frameworks (e.g., SITEQUAL, WebQual) and prior reviews. The basis of our comprehensive literature review are 91 articles grouped into the webshop element categories and additionally analyzed along three key study criteria, namely the applied research methods, theories, and key dependent variables. Based on the findings from this bibliographic analysis, we formulate an agenda for future research avenues to guide researchers in further exploring the field of e-commerce presences and to support practitioners in their decision-making on the implementation of webshop elements. Abstract: Virtual influencers have started to amass significant followings on online social networks and to collaborate with popular brands. However, the content characteristics driving the engagement with virtual influencer posts are still unexplored. This study addresses this knowledge gap by analyzing a unique dataset comprising over 25,000 posts from 171 influencers gathered using Google Cloud Vision and Instagram Graph API data. We conduct hierarchical negative binomial regression models for both likes and comments and find that posts displaying emotions such as anger and joy result in substantial increases in engagement metrics. Additionally, interactive posts using hashtags or tags also generate more engagement. Moreover, we present our remaining work which includes incorporating text characteristics (e.g., sentiment and emotional congruence) and manually coded content types (informative, entertaining, remunerative, and relational formats) into the model as well as post-hoc analyses and robustness checks to further disentangle the effects identified. Abstract: Data is an integral part of almost every business. Sharing data enables new opportunities to generate value or enrich the existing data repository, opening up new potentials for optimization and business models. However, these opportunities are still untapped, as sharing data comes with many challenges. First and foremost, aspects such as trust in partners, transparency, and the desire for security are issues that need to be addressed. Only then can data sharing be used efficiently in business models. The paper addresses this issue and generates guidance for the data-sharing business model (DSBM) design in the form of a taxonomy. The taxonomy is built on the empirical analysis of 80 DSBMs. With this, the primary contributions are structuring the field of an emerging phenomenon and outlining design options for these types of business models. Abstract: Autonomous systems (ATS) enabled by blockchain and artificial intelligence are hailed to revolutionize our lives and economy. However, ethical concerns and a lack of trust in machines making decisions on their own may explain why these systems are not yet embraced in large scale implementations. In blockchain-based ATSs, doubts have been fueled by failures of large crypto projects believed to be secure, such as the meltdown of the Terra/Luna algorithmic stablecoin (ASC). In this research, we analyze the failure of this ASC system through the lens of mindfulness using secondary data like the project's whitepaper and an interview with its chief executive officer. Hence, we make two contributions: First, we explore and argue for the possibility to mindfully design and operate ATSs as digital high reliability organizations. Second, we build a punctuated equilibrium model of mindfulness in systems. We thus extend the understanding of the design and management of ATSs. Collapse

Abstract: Data privacy has become a strategic issue. Companies increasingly rely on personal data to advance their business models. However, in doing so they must address ever-growing customer concerns, thus necessitating that they go beyond merely complying with regulations. Strategic privacy principles that reflect strategic privacy choices are the fundamental pillars for companies' privacy strategies. Our data set covers strategic privacy principles from 171 Forbes Global 2000 companies that communicate them externally. Our preliminary results show that these companies take six different positions on data privacy. The positions are those of trust builders, data shepherds, data professionals, data caretakers, privacy minimalists and data justifiers. Executives can leverage our insights to actively influence the positioning of their company by defining or adapting its strategic privacy principles. Moreover, our clustering results provide a basis for further analysis of strategic privacy positions, the results of which may have implications for companies' financial performance. Collapse

Abstract: Companies increasingly innovate data-driven business models, enabling them to create new products and services. Emerging data ecosystems provide these companies access to complementary data, offering them additional potential. This, however remains untapped, as a lack of digital trust prevents companies from sharing data within these ecosystems. By using trust-enhancing technologies, companies can establish trust; this can be explained through the theoretical lens of system trust. Using a design science research approach helped us to unlock the knowledge of 21 experts and identify five technologies with the potential to solve the trust challenge: self-sovereign identities, differential privacy, fully homomorphic encryption, trusted execution environments and secure multiparty computation. We integrated these technologies into the data sharing process in data ecosystems and elaborated on their limitations and maturity. Ultimately, we derived two principles that allow for adapting our results to future technological developments: complementarity and customization. Collapse

Abstract: Organizations claim to host what is called a metaverse-an extended version of our real world. First rudimental realizations of such metaverses can be found throughout the internet, e.g., Epic Game's Fortnite. At the same time, research and practice struggle to specify what a metaverse truly is and how we can characterize it. With our work, we analyze the proximity of the realization of a holistic metaverse platform and present the results of a qualitative interview study (n=30). The goal of our work is to use the expertise of practitioners to discuss different examples that claim to represent a metaverse, e.g., Second Life and Decentraland. To achieve this goal, we develop a typology we call the Metagon and use it to evaluate existing metaverse platforms. We contribute to theory by clarifying the meaning of metaverse platforms. Practitioners are guided by a demonstration of metaverse characteristics. Collapse

Abstract: Traditionally, the metaverse has been defined as a virtual reality space in which users can interact with a computer-generated environment and other users. Nowadays, it is much more than that—the metaverse can be described as a variety of digital platforms and ecosystems, with each ecosystem as an independent universe with its own material, complementors, and functionalities. Creating metaverse ecosystems and integrated platforms results in different roles and responsibilities for complementors, consumers, platform owners, and orchestrators. The term metaverse platforms is further structured and clarified by four perspectives: innovation, production, transaction, and social interaction. Consequently, this fundamental paper defines it as: “A Metaverse is a massively scaled and interoperable meta-ecosystem of other digital ecosystems of real-time rendered 3D virtual worlds which can be experienced synchronously and persistently by an unlimited number of complementors and consumers with an increased user experience caused by a creativity-guided co-creation of goods managed by orchestrators and supported by platform owners.” Consequently, the metaverse offers vast opportunities for digital innovations beyond traditional social media or computer games and creates new infrastructures for add-on innovations in all areas of the digital economy. Abstract: Social comparisons on traditional social networking sites (SNSs) such as Instagram can increase envy and reduce well-being. In this context, authenticity-driven SNSs such as BeReal intend to nudge their users towards sharing authentic and everyday content, thus reducing envy-inducing social comparisons occurring on traditional SNSs. However, it is unclear whether the content shared on authenticity-driven SNSs is indeed perceived as more authentic than on traditional SNSs, and how this affects SNS envy and well-being. Moreover, the relevance of perceived content authenticity next to self-esteem as an established envy antecedent remains unclear. Using two surveys, we found that BeReal content was perceived as more authentic than Instagram content. Furthermore, higher perceived content authenticity and self-esteem were associated with lower envy and increased affective well-being on both BeReal and Instagram, with self-esteem being a stronger predictor. This suggests that SNS design can reduce SNS envy, yet personal traits remain relevant predictors. Collapse
