Abstract: Video conferencing (VC) applications (apps) have surged in popularity as an alternative to face-to-face com­ munications. Although VC apps offer myriad benefits, it has caught much media attention owing to concerns of privacy infringements. This study examines the key determinants of professionals’ attitude and intentions to use VC apps in the backdrop of this conflicting duality. A conceptual research model is proposed based on theoretical foundations of privacy calculus and extended with conceptualizations of mobile users’ information privacy concerns (MUIPC), trust, technicality, ubiquity, as well as theoretical underpinnings of social presence theory. Structural equation modeling is used to empirically test the model using data collected from 484 professionals. The study offers insights regarding the trade-offs that professionals are willing to make in the face of information privacy concerns associated with VC apps. Based on the findings, the study emphasizes the promotion of privacy protection at the organizational level, control mechanisms that motivate employees to actively engage in privacy protection behavior, and a multi-faceted approach for data transparency within the VC app platforms. Abstract: Essential to effective and efficient collaboration among natural crisis responders is the fast and ample crisis-related data, including victims' data (e.g., their locations and needs). However, the reality often falls short of it because the responders deployed by different crisis response agencies using various digital forms result in an incomplete and delayed view of crisis information. Attempts to enforce a unified digital form proposed by a leading agency or the pre-developed one co-created by several agencies had been made but failed. This research, based mainly on qualitative data collected, proposes an adaptability-by-bricolage approach of a digital interoperability solution for immediate digital collaboration among crisis responders during the crisis response. Preliminary findings that holistically define the solution are discussed. Collapse

Abstract: User Experience (UX) research is essential in creating value. Because user attributes impact how people perceive and evaluate technology, they play an important role in UX research. A recent systematic literature review (SLR) focused on users' perceptions and evaluations of teleoperation interfaces at the workplace. We extend this review by examining a set of user attributes that can provide further insight for developing a framework for assessing such interfaces. Remote-controlled robots reduce the risks faced by workers in dangerous environments. A framework for user evaluation of teleoperation interfaces not only can provide valuable actionable design insights for the development team but also can serve as a formal structure for assessing the design efficacy and success of the developed interfaces. By drawing on two influential frameworks in information systems (IS) literature, we aim to develop a model for predicting the adoption and effective use of teleoperation interfaces in the workplace. Abstract: Research on the antecedents of SM and its consequences for organizations is silent on the distinctions between Enterprise SM (ESM) and Public SM (PSM) applications, as also is unclear whether PSM usage lowers or improves organizational outcomes. Our research model addresses these gaps. One, since SM usage is serendipitous and unstructured we propose that an organization’s strategic orientation is highly salient in affecting social media use. Two, we theorize why each type of SM – ESM vis-à-vis PSM contributes distinctly to organizational social capital. Data was collected from the IT industry, an ideal setting given its high clock-speed and information intensity. We find that PSM use contributes to all dimensions of social capital, over and above the contribution from ESM use. Further, as hypothesized, external orientation positively affects PSM use. The findings contribute to deepening theory to explain the link between SM use and organizational social capital, as well as introduce external orientation as novel antecedent of SM use. Collapse

Abstract: A ride-hailing platform is an app-based, two-sided platform that matches riders with vehicles via information technology (IT). In 2015, the Shanghai government introduced a policy to restrict taxi drivers’ access to and acceptance of ride requests via ride-hailing apps during certain hours. We conceptualize this policy shock as the restricting of information sharing enabled by IT and collect comprehensive data on various uses of transportation to gauge the economic benefits of this information sharing for existing capacity and its subsequent externalities on other transportation. Through a time series analysis, we identify significant decreases in the ridership of an affected taxi fleet during times of enforcement but significant increases at some times of nonenforcement postlaunch. Furthermore, the traffic on public transportation, via the city’s transportation cards, and the congestion on the surface streets and expressways significantly increase after launching the policy during both enforcement and most nonenforcement times. These suggest that information sharing via ride-hailing apps can improve the utilization of existing taxi capacity, which further alleviates traffic during alternative times and the burden placed on alternative transportation modes. Interestingly, our mechanism analysis shows decreased profitability after the restriction, which supports the notion that information sharing via ride-hailing apps reduces drivers’ search cost and thus enables them to match not only with more orders but also with those of higher marginal profit. This study contributes to the literature on ride-hailing platforms’ impact and the economic value of information sharing and IT by dissecting the compound ride-hailing’s impact to extract the value of information sharing enabled by IT and to reveal the underlying mechanism. Practically, we evaluate the policy studied, make postrevision suggestions for general contexts, and provide managerial insights on precise policymaking that best extracts the economic value of information sharing in ride-hailing and general forms of online two-sided platforms. Abstract: Digitalization requires organizations to strategically invest in information technology (IT). As a result, the costs associated with IT in companies are rising and technological progress changes the setting for IT management. This poses challenges for IT managers to ensure spend-efficiency and manage IT costs transparently. However, no current literature review gives an overview of how IT cost management (ITCM) research dealt with past transformations. This paper aims to investigate ITCM concepts considering their historical context. It then derives implications for the digital age and identifies future research fields. The historical literature review reveals that ITCM research evolved with technological advances and the target to manage all IT-related costs and evaluate the impact of IT spend. However, the presented concepts lack consideration of current changes that hamper spend-efficiency and strategic decisions. Hence, this paper enables future research to address the identified research gaps. Additionally, practitioners gain awareness of how they can benefit from developed ITCM concepts. Collapse

Abstract: In the contemporary remote work environment, the demand for effective and timely feedback has significantly grown. Despite the adoption of feedback systems, many employees still find these platforms lacking in delivering meaningful insights. This study delves into the potential of digital nudges-reminder notifications sent to users-as a strategy to enhance feedback contributions on mobile platforms. A randomized field experiment was conducted in collaboration with a prominent organization, exploring variations in nudge send times and the emphasis on task significance. Spanning five weeks, the experiment evaluated the efficacy of these nudges in fostering feedback engagement among employees. Our findings indicate that the timing, content of nudges (i.e., task significance message), and a combination of these two, can significantly influence feedback behavior. The study's findings have potential implications for organizations aiming to bolster their feedback systems, making them more responsive and effective in the digital age. Collapse
