Abstract: The human creation of a product serves as a quality signal. Given recent progress in generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), the "handmade" label is increasingly replaced by an "AI-made" label. However, due to consumers' inherent algorithm aversion, the "AI-made" label adversely affects consumption behavior. Accordingly, firms need to understand how consumers' aversion towards AI-generated products can be mitigated. Our explorative approach focuses on the nascent phenomenon of applying generative AI for creating textual news products. Based on 41 consumer interviews, we derive five signals that may mitigate consumers' concerns with AI-generated textual products: The establishment of a quality control instance, the application of a hard output paradigm, the provision of information and process transparency, and the presence of positive reviews. These signals enable firms to leverage the economic benefits associated with delegating product creation to generative AI agents. Collapse

Abstract: Scholars and practitioners have long tried to understand the antecedents and consequences of information technology (IT) assimilation. Studies suggest that top management support is an important driver of IT assimilation; however, this broad takeaway provides little substantive guidance to researchers and practitioners. We also have a limited understanding of whether and when IT assimilation creates business value. We take stock of this literature with a meta-analysis. We found that top management support is positively related to IT assimilation, and assimilation is in turn positively related to the business value of IT. We also found that explicit support does not have any special effect on IT assimilation (compared to implicit support) and may not be related to business value at all. However, our results indicate that IT assimilation has a stronger effect on business value at the process level (versus firm level) and for enterprise IT innovations (versus function IT innovations). Finally, we found that support-assimilation and assimilation-value relationships are stronger in high (versus low) power distance cultures. Our collective findings can facilitate future research and help practitioners navigate IT assimilation initiatives. Collapse

Abstract: False claims and misinformation on social media have substantially increased in the last few years. Some people have incorrectly interpreted such content as the truth, sometimes to the extent that it transforms their view of reality and subsequently leads to actions that cause harm and suffering. Despite the burgeoning body of research on misinformation on social media, we know little about the process by which social media-driven misinformation shapes and reinforces false beliefs that result in detrimental outcomes. Building on insights from dramaturgical tragedy, theories of truth, and research on social media, we develop a process theory that explains how social media-driven misinformation transforms a person's view of reality in a way that leads to detrimental human action. Abstract: Justice organizations are central to democracy. However, even democratic countries report high justice costs, slowness and unreasonable backlogs. Many countries have invested heavily in Information Technology (IT) to address efficiency issues. However, empirical studies to assess the impact of IT applications in the Judiciary are scarce. Our research aims to analyze whether IT fulfils its promise of higher court efficiency. Our research model contemplates three hypotheses related to the efficiency of courts of justice. The selected efficiency variables are clearance rate, process duration, and backlog. The hypothesis will be tested against data gathered in Brazil that covers ten years of Court Case Management Systems (CCMS) use in Brazilian courts. The country currently has a ratio of 97,2% of judicial cases held digitally. The study takes a step towards understanding the contributions of IT to improve justice efficiency. Collapse

Abstract: The transfer of complex knowledge and skills is difficult, often requiring intensive interaction and extensive periods of coworking between a mentor and mentee, which is particularly true in apprenticeship-like settings and on-the-job training. This paper studies a context that quintessentially describes this type of learning: the academic laboratory. I focus on ways a change in the attention of a principal investigator, moving to entrepreneurship, may influence knowledge transmission and skill development by examining the relationship of this change with their PhD students’ scientific productivity and careers. To do so, I rely on novel restricted-access data encompassing faculty and PhD students in computer sciences, engineering, and the life sciences who were active at an elite U.S. research university from 2001 to 2017. The results suggest a substantial negative association between a professor’s entrepreneurial activity and the short- and long-run publication output of the PhD students they train. Furthermore, I detect a decrease in students’ likelihood of becoming professors themselves but an increase in their likelihood of working for consulting firms on graduation. Finally, I provide evidence suggesting that changes in trainee development are the most feasible drivers of the results rather than changes in trainee research orientation, selection, or life cycle effects. Abstract: This paper explores the development of a student-centered Learning Analytics Dashboard (LAD) to promote self-regulated learning. With increasing digitization, online teaching has become an important feature in higher education. However, online learning leads to new challenges for students such as isolation or high self-management requirements. LADs can support students by providing data and analytics on their learning behavior and progress. Yet, there is limited research on the design of LADs, especially with respect to student needs. In this paper, we use design science research methodology to design, develop and evaluate a LAD in two iterations. We assess the usability, visual aesthetics, and Task Technology Fit of the dashboard against the background of self-regulated learning theory. The results show that our LAD is capable of supporting students in the tasks of self-evaluation and self-assessment. Collapse

Abstract: The idea that individuals can have a digital mindset has gained popularity against the backdrop of radical shifts toward digital transformation and the future of work. Despite the burgeoning scholarly interest across disciplines, efforts to conceptualize digital mindset remain fragmented so far. This paper starts a discourse about unresolved ontological assumptions and theoretical inconsistencies. We address the prevailing knowledge fragmentation by synthesizing three research streams on individuals' affect, behaviors, and cognitions in the context of digital transformation and revealing their underlying commonalities. We propose that two beliefs jointly form the integrative foundation of individuals' digital mindset: how individuals think about and perceive (a) digital technologies (as opportunity or threat) and (b) their own abilities (as malleable or fixed) in the context of digital transformation. Our theoretical synthesis lays the groundwork for future research to work toward an inter-nomological network and a more holistic understanding of individuals' digital mindset. Collapse

Abstract: The modern world of work is characterized by discontinuity and innovation. Organizations must adapt to continuous change, which makes it crucial to manage organizational knowledge. Learning and forgetting processes are necessary to react successfully to the changes. On the individual level, this means that individuals have to adapt their behavior, which is often well-learned and routinized. This study aims to take a first step toward a more detailed understanding of human behavior in the context of continuous change. For this purpose, an exploratory analysis was conducted on data collected in a Research and Application Center Industry 4.0. The participants had to deal with the continuous change of routine actions in a simulated production environment, which enabled us to measure their adaptation errors. The occurrence of adaptation errors, their dependency on the type of change, and the behavioral patterns are discussed in detail. Implications for further research are derived. Collapse

We also express our gratitude for the generosity of First Nations people in sharing their culture and supporting us to undertake this Abstract:In the context of an institution-wide initiative of the University of Canberra (UC), Australia, to mandate the Indigenization of the curriculum in all its courses, this descriptive case study reports on a pilot project to redesign the syllabus of an Information Technology (IT) unit that is a mandatory capstone for all students undertaking IT degrees. The capstone previously included no Indigenous-related content or pedagogical approaches. Indigenizing of the unit was achieved by embedding and interconnecting Tyson Yunkaporta's (2009) 8 Ways of Indigenous Learning with the unit's content, teaching methods, and assessments, along with the Indigenous collaborative learning method Yarning Circles, in a design that could be expressed and unified in the teaching delivery to inform continuous adjustment and improvement of the unit's curriculum, and also potentially inform the Indigenization of other UC IT units over time. A Design Science Research (DSR) methodology was put into action to evaluate the previous curriculum (as expressed in the offering of the unit), to design its Indigenized replacement, to implement it with student cohorts over two semesters, to collect data on the experience, and to reflect on the successes and challenges that arise. This methodology can also be applied reflexively in future iterative cycles of continuous adjustment and improvement of the unit's curriculum by its conveners and colleagues to inform Indigenized designs for other units that currently have no Indigenous-related content.
