Abstract: The aim of smart manufacturing is to reduce manpower requirements of the production line by applying technology of huge amounts of data to the manufacturing industry. Smart manufacturing is also called Industry 4.0, and the platform for processing huge amounts of data has an indispensable role. The massive data processing platform is like the brain of the entire factory, receiving all data from production line sensors via edge computing, processing, and analyzing, and finally making feedback decisions. With the innovation of production technology, the data that the platform needs to process has become diverse and complex, and the amount has become increasingly large. As well, many precision manufacturing industries have begun to enter the field of Industry 4.0. In addition to the accuracy and availability of data processing, there is emphasis on the real-time nature of data processing. After the sensor receives the data, the platform must provide feedback within a short period of time. This article proposes a massive data processing platform based on the Lambda architecture, which has the coexistence of stream processing and batch processing to meet real-time feedback needs of high-precision manufacturing. To verify the effectiveness of the optimization, it is based on real data from the manufacturing industry. To generate a large amount of test data to confirm the optimization of the storage of pictures. The results show that it optimizes the storage and optimization of the image data generated by the Automated Optical Inspection technology used in manufacturing today and optimizes the query for data storage. It also reduces the consumption of a large amount of memory as expected, and the query for Hive reduced the time spent. Collapse

Abstract: We examine the impact of firm social media engagement on sales performance, answering "whether," "what," and "how" questions. The study uses a quasi-experimental design in a social e-commerce setting, for which propensity score matching and difference-in-differences methods quantify a mean 20.67% sales increase after firm social media adoption. We also find that firms that sell low-involvement products benefit more from social media adoption, compared to those that sell high-involvement products. Further, in terms of how to manage social media engagement, we find that informative content, in general, is effective for sales of high-involvement products, whereas promotional content, a new type of content discovered in this study, is more beneficial for sales of low-involvement products. Meanwhile, more social media followers generate better firm sales performance. We used instrumental variables and the control function method to address endogeneity issues and conducted robustness checks to support our conclusions. This study sheds light on the value of firm social media, particularly regarding industry differences and firm know-how. Collapse

Abstract: In this editorial, we draw insights from recent empirical studies to answer some key questions related to human and AI complementarity. There is consensus regarding the strengths of machine intelligence in performing structured and codifiable tasks and complementing two human limitations: lack of consistency and inability to unlearn conventional wisdom. To work effectively with AI, humans need to possess not only AI skills but also domain expertise, job skills, and metaknowledge to accurately assess human capabilities and AI capabilities. We identify several future directions in understanding the effects of human expertise and experiences on algorithmic appreciation, the mutual learning and adaptions between humans and AI, and the boundary conditions of effective human and AI complementarity. Abstract: Cybercrime against critical infrastructures such as nuclear reactors, power plants, and dams has been increasing in frequency and severity. Recent literature regarding these types of attacks has been extensive but due to the sensitive nature of this field, there is very little empirical data. We address these issues by integrating Routine Activity Theory and Rational Choice Theory, and we create a classification tool called TRACI (Taxonomy for Risk Assessment of Cyberattacks on Critical Infrastructure). We take a Design Science Research approach to develop, evaluate, and refine the proposed artifact. We use mixed methods to demonstrate that our taxonomy can successfully capture the characteristics of various cyberattacks against critical infrastructure. TRACI consists of three dimensions, and each dimension contains its own subdimensions. The first dimension comprises hacker motivation, which can be financial, socio-cultural, thrill-seeking, and/or economic. The second dimension represents the assets such as cyber, physical, and/or cyber-physical components. The third dimension is related to threats, vulnerabilities, and controls that are fundamental to establishing and maintaining an information security posture and overall cyber resilience. Our work is among the first to utilize criminological theories and Design Science to create an empirically validated artifact for improving critical infrastructure risk management. Collapse

Abstract: Metaverses refer to immersive virtual worlds in which people, places, and things of the physical world are represented by their digital representations. The wide adoption of metaverses is expected to widely disrupt the way we interact in the virtual world by elevating our online interactive experiences and bringing a plethora of implications for businesses. Following a structured literature review of related research published in the last decade, we shed light on our current understanding of metaverses and reflect on the potentially transformative value of metaverses for businesses in the near future. We draw on an established research framework to organize the insights of existing literature across different levels of analysis and activities’ purpose. Through this analysis, we reveal eight propositions on the changes brought by the use of metaverses and identify a number of open questions which could serve as future research avenues. Collapse

Abstract: User susceptibility to phishing messages on social media is a growing information security concern. Contingency factors that can influence this susceptibility and the theoretical mechanisms through which they operate need more scholarly attention. To bridge this gap, we present a temptation and restraint (TR) model (a specific manifestation of the dual–system theory) of social media phishing susceptibility, which explains it as an outcome of a struggle between users' temptation toward engaging with a social media phishing message and their cognitive and behavioral restraint against it. The balance in this struggle is a function of various situational contingencies. First, via a Delphi study, we identify four key situational contingency factors in the context of social media that can influence this balance: (1) poor sleep quality, (2) social media ostracism, (3) source likability, and (4) fear appeals. Next, via five randomized controlled experiments using an ostensible social media paradigm with social media users, we show that the TR model explains (a) why and how users engage with social media phishing messages, and (b) when users are more or less susceptible to it based on key situational contingency factors. Our findings offer a nuanced perspective on social media phishing susceptibility, elucidate the fundamental roles of situational contingencies in the genesis of social media phishing victimization, and delineate important directions for future research in this area Collapse
