Abstract: Financial distress prediction is a prominent research topic in information systems, with two primary modelling categories: stationary and dynamic modelling. Recent stationary modelling works have leveraged company interactions to improve prediction performance, considering the heterogeneity of interactions while ignoring the dynamicity. However, few dynamic modelling works utilized interactions. To address the inconsistency and limitation of stationary and dynamic modelling works in leveraging interactions, we propose the Spatio-Temporal Financial Graph Attention Network with Metalearning (STFGAN-Meta). STFGAN-Meta leverages interactions' spatial heterogeneity via the Spatial Aggregation module and temporal dynamicity via the Temporal Aggregation module. STFGAN-Meta introduces the Meta-learning Optimization module to unify stationary and dynamic modelling. Our experimental evaluation demonstrates that leveraging dynamicity and heterogeneity of interactions outperforms leveraging dynamicity or heterogeneity alone. Meta-learning succeeds in providing a generalized approach between stationary and dynamic modelling. STFGAN-Meta can be a promising risk assessment and decision-making tool in the financial industry. Abstract: We advance a multistakeholder framework that highlights the influence of stakeholders in tempering short-termist responses to capital market pressures. When firms face pressure from short sellers in the capital market, they sometimes shift attention to short-term stock performance and neglect critical investments that pay off in the long run. Relying on a quasi-natural experiment and establishment-level data on workplace injuries, we find that short-selling pressure causes an increase in employee injuries. Critically, however, the degree to which the response is short-termist depends on the salience of multiple stakeholders (analysts, shareholders, employees, and managers). We discuss the implications for understanding firms’ relations with their stakeholders and, particularly, how these stakeholders influence corporate responses to capital market pressures in ways that matter for long-term value creation. This study also contributes to strategy research by highlighting the downside of capital market deregulation. Abstract: Livestreaming e-commerce as an emerging social-technological phenomenon has been gaining attention from IS researchers. While past literature has accumulated extensive knowledge on explanatory variables that might lead to the viewers' purchasing behaviours, most of such empirical work focuses on prediction rather than explaining the causal mechanism. In this in-progress study, we draw on the psychology literature and hypothesise informational conformity and social facilitation as two key pathways leading to the purchasing behaviour in the emerging context. This conceptual framework would also be empirically verified using the field data. We propose using a structural equation modelling approach to test the conceptual model. Abstract: Competitive intelligence uses information collected about competitors to derive better managerial insights. In this study, we focus on identifying the competitors and detecting the competitive dimensions concurrently. To achieve this goal, we propose an aspect-level competitive attribution model (a variation of the topic model) to leverage consumer-reviewed products and their review texts. To better analyze product relations and the un­ derlying competitive aspects, we consider consumer limited attention when modeling consumers' preferences and introduce a background aspect to filter out the trivial and maintain the valuable competition-related in­ formation in review texts. We validate this approach using a dataset of 785 products reviewed by 15,669 con­ sumers in the auto industry. Based on the empirical experiments, we show that our model can accurately infer high-quality competitive segments and decipher competition-related aspects corresponding to these segments. To highlight differences, we conduct comparisons and find our approach outperforms the benchmark models meaningfully in the literature when predicting consumers' online behaviors. Collapse

Abstract: Incentivized reviews have become increasingly prevalent on product review sites such as Amazon. Whereas outright fake reviews are clearly unacceptable and should be removed from review platforms, reviews by incentivized consumers with otherwise authentic product experiences fall into a gray area. On the one hand, many critics and researchers have warned of their harm by pointing out their biased ratings. On the other hand, these reviews might complement organic reviews with review text of higher quality. The current paper studies whether incentivized reviews on Amazon are more coherent and offer richer detail. We use Amazon’s platform-incentivized reviews, known as Vine reviews, for our primary sample and use seller-incentivized reviews for checking robustness. Estimations from a two-way fixed-effect model consistently show that incentivized reviews do compensate for their reduced impartiality through better text quality, measured by discourse coherence and level of relevant detail. This finding is further supported by a randomized experiment using Amazon Mechanical Turk. Hence, current literature findings on the poor quality of text of incentivized reviews, based on review length and lexical complexity, portray only an incomplete picture of incentivized reviews. Abstract: Emotional expressions are ubiquitous in electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) communication, but their effect on eWOM persuasiveness and the underlying mechanisms in the context of social networking services (SNS) have been underexplored. This research focuses on an extensively used nonverbal emotional cue in computermediated communication-the emoticon. Drawing on the emotion as social information model (EASI), we propose a conceptual framework to understand whether, how, and when emoticons influence the persuasiveness of eWOM on SNS. Results from a field experiment and a series of online experiments show that emoticons can increase eWOM persuasiveness through the mediating effects of enhanced recipient empathy and trust toward the sender and that these effects vary across situations. Specifically, the persuasive effect of emoticons occurs for both positive and negative eWOM when recipients and senders are close to each other. However, this effect occurs only for negative eWOM when recipients and senders have distant relationships. We discuss the theoretical and practical implications of these findings and identify several opportunities for future research. Collapse

Abstract: Agility has long been recognised as a key determinant of organisational performance. The pursuit of agility within business units (BUs) is challenging as IT executives in multi-business organisations (MBOs) are tasked with balancing a need for organisation-wide IT synergies against a desire among BUs for local IT solutions that enable agility in their end markets. MBOs are increasingly turning to corporate IT platforms to respond to their BUs’ IT needs but doing so presents a challenge to BU IT autonomy and, in turn, to BU agility. In this paper, we posit that BU agility is determined by resource synergies based on the interplay between corporate IT platforms and local, BU-controlled, IT applications. These applications lead to greater BU process digitisation and, in turn, to expanded BU agility. We evaluate our model using data from an international survey of IT executives in MBOs. Our findings provide support for our model and, in so doing, identify different paths that MBOs can take to enhance BU agility. Our contribution affirms the value of corporate IT platforms for BU agility but suggests that MBOs should tread carefully when developing corporate IT platforms that coincide with mandatory use of shared IT applications. Abstract: Many organisations embrace crowdsourcing to enhance innovation, problem-solving and value creation. While crowdsourcing in the past has been limited to just one organisation, crowdsourcing can be enhanced through collaborative practices that include sharing resources and value exchange in a 'crowdsourcing ecosystem'. However, the factors that influence the emergence of a crowdsourcing ecosystem are not yet well understood. To better understand these factors, our paper focuses on the emergence phase of crowdsourcing ecosystems. We conducted a case study of not-for-profit sector collaborative crowdsourcing projects to identify the internal and external influencing factors. We identify four major categories -preparedness, challenges, scope, and risks, along with 23 sub-categories. We believe our findings might be helpful for scholars and practitioners regarding the effective design of collaborative initiatives for crowdsourcing. Collapse

Abstract: Given the proliferation of online platforms for crowdsourcing contests, we address the inconsistencies in the extant literature about the behavioral effects of increasing the prize awarded by contest organizers. We endeavor to resolve these inconsistencies by analyzing user behavior in a highly controlled experimental setting in which users can participate (by exerting real effort rather than stated effort) in multiple online contests that vary only in their prizes. The analysis of the behavior of 731 active participants in our first experiment showed that both participation and effort were non-monotonic with the prize, that the low-prize contest was the most effective for the organizers, and that increasing the prize of the low-prize or high-prize contest by 50% actually decreased the benefits for organizers. Our findings advance theory by providing insight into when and why extrinsic incentives fail to produce the desired effects in crowdsourcing contests. Collapse

Abstract: Drawing on theorising on digital technologies as external enablers of entrepreneurial activities and an interactionist perspective on corporate entrepreneurship, this article examines the relationship between digital technology support and employee intrapreneurial behaviour. We propose that management support for innovation as an organisational characteristic and intrapreneurial self-efficacy as an individual characteristic moderate this relationship. Findings from a metric conjoint experiment with 1360 decisions nested within 85 employees showed that support by social media, support by collaborative technologies, and support by intelligent decision support systems were significant predictors of employee intrapreneurial behaviour. However, the relative impact of support by these digital technologies varied with different levels of management support for innovation and intrapreneurial self-efficacy. Collapse
