Abstract: The widespread use of technology in the workplace has led to an increase in cyberdeviance, where employees deliberately violate organizational norms when using IT resources. Drawing on literature on technological entitlement and organizational justice, this study explores the relationship between cyberdeviance, technological entitlement, and organizational justice. We propose that technological entitlement is a personality trait of employees who are more likely to engage in cyberdeviance and use organizational justice as a justification for their behavior. This paper contributes to recent studies on technological entitlement and has implications for organizations seeking to mitigate cyberdeviance. Collapse

Abstract: Digital multisided platforms and peer-to-peer marketplaces are increasingly attracting attention from scholars, with a significant amount of work examining their societal implications. Despite such focus, limited work has investigated the social implications of the democratization of capital by peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platforms, particularly within the healthcare sector, where financial constraints can be daunting. In this study, we investigate the effects of P2P lending platforms on local abortion rates, a medical procedure characterized by significant financial barriers and social stigma. Leveraging the entry of the P2P platform LendingClub into different states at different times, and a differences-in-differences approach, we find that the entry of LendingClub is associated with an increase in the rate at which women choose not to carry to term. Further, results indicate the effects vary based on the characteristics of the local area, with stronger effects manifesting in more religious areas and areas with lower levels of education, suggesting that social frictions in the form of stigma and knowledge asymmetries can influence financial need. Abstract: There has been substantial hype about the use of blockchain for supply chain and trade finance, proclaiming that it would "change the world." Although during 2016-2018 blockchain was riding high on the hype curve, in 2019 it fell into the trough of disillusionment. Along the way, some consultants have recently stopped promoting blockchain and attention appears have shifted away from enterprise blockchain systems. As a result, it probably is not surprising that recently there have been several instances where those enterprise blockchain efforts went insolvent or were shutdown. This paper investigates those blockchain systems and identifies some of the potential factors affecting the success of those systems. Abstract: Discriminatory pricing practices have raised consumers' negative reactions. This study investigates how AI agent's presence and the use of explanations impact consumers' acceptance of discriminatory pricing. A scenario-based experiment revealed that AI agent's presence negatively moderates the negative relationship between offer unfavorability and offer acceptance, which is mediated by perceived justice and invasion of privacy. Moreover, this research indicated that for unfavored price, environmentbased explanation is more effective than user-based explanation and the positive effect of AI agent's presence on offer acceptance is more pronounced when providing user-based explanations. This study contributes to price management literature and AI decision literature by illustrating how the AI agent's presence asymmetrically shapes consumers' perceptions of offer outcomes, enriching our understanding of consumer responses to AI. The findings have implications for firms managing discriminatory pricing, offering insights into optimal AI agents and explanation utilization for enhancing customer experience and business performance. Abstract: Information security policies (ISPs) have a key role in organizational information security. Research has introduced processes for ISP development, including lifecycle models. There are also recommendations to include contextual issues in the ISP development to ensure that the ISP provides tailored protection to the organization's assets. One way of ensuring this is to include organization members in the development efforts. We identified six functions for the organization member participation from the research literature. Then, we presented two case studies of organizations where the personnel was included in the ISP development process. We found that the participation of the organization members did add value to the process through these functions but that there were also some negative effects. The inclusion of organization members in ISP development can help in gathering feedback directly at the beginning of the lifecycle without the need to go through the entire cycle to identify issues. Abstract: We analyze the most common security vulnerabilities in distributed ledger systems. We performed predictive analytics on the REKT database to predict the attack pattern using predictive algorithms, including logistic regression and random forests. The results show that the month of the attack and the cryptocurrency chain affected were significant predictors of the type of scam that occurred. The most important predictors were the Log of funds lost, the chain or platform of the cryptocurrency attacked, and the Log of funds returned after the attack. The study highlights the need for greater scrutiny and improved security measures in DeFi projects to mitigate the risks associated with the DeFi ecosystem. Collapse

Abstract: We investigate how the relationship between status and performance decouples over time by addressing two questions: (1) how performance affects the likelihood that an actor achieves high status and (2) how achieving high status affects the actor’s subsequent performance. In doing so, we focus on the role repeated certification contests play, where evaluators assess actors’ performance along particular dimensions and confer high status on the contest winners. Using the context of sell-side (brokerage) equity analysts and the “All-Star” list from Institutional Investor magazine, we first investigate whether analysts who make the All-Star list are more likely to produce accurate and/or independent forecasts. Then, we investigate analyst performance after recent and multiple wins. Our results demonstrate the decoupling of status and performance over time and the roles played by both the high-status actor and the social evaluators conferring their status. Whereas analyst performance increases the likelihood of being designated an All-Star, recent and multiple All-Star designations differentially affect both how subsequent performance is assessed, and how the All-Star analysts subsequently perform. In the short term, achieving high status can increase performance and solidify an analyst’s status position; however, in the long term, it can lead to lower performance and eventually result in status loss, which further erodes performance. Abstract: The information technology (IT) workforce is characterized by several unique and contextual factors, such as the technology, the occupation itself, and the human factors. Among the human factors, global information systems (IS) studies have examined the role of national culture to explain many workforce differences and nuances across nations. In such cross-cultural research, IS researchers have primarily utilized the published scores of national culture dimensions as provided by the preeminent social psychologist and culture scholar Geert Hofstede and have applied them to various IT populations within a country. Given that the IT profession is unique in many respects, and there is cultural heterogeneity within a country, our study embarked on independently measuring and verifying the national culture values of IT employees in 37 countries. By using the original Hofstede scales, scores were obtained on five national culture dimensions: power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism, masculinity, and long-term orientation. We found significant differences between the national culture scores of IT employees and those available in the literature for the general population. Our results are novel and have profound significance. There are major implications for both past and future studies in cross-cultural research as well as for practitioners who interpret and utilize the findings of such research. Collapse
