Abstract: Components built into space vehicles and equipment (space products) must meet different regulatory requirements; in detail, each component must be certified and sustainably traceable at all times. Space engineers have expressed the need for an interoperable system to collect, manage and route certifications for components, parts and materials that go into space products. The lack of a unified approach in the European space industry is a challenge for companies involved in product development. This research proposes an open-source, secure, fast and distributed ledger technology (DLT) based solution that fits into any IT environment and is well adapted to the needs of manufacturing companies in the space sector. The results show that a blockchain-based solution based on 'Hyperledger Fabric' combined with the InterPlanetary File System is viable. The results can guide other researchers and practitioners to consider DLTs when changing their certification management paradigm with suppliers, customers and auditors. Collapse

Abstract: Although off-the-shelf enterprise systems (ES) have been widely adopted in organisations, the extant literature repeatedly documents ES failures caused by misfits between organisational processes and the ES. Although some misfits can be identified early in the ES lifecycle, others emerge in the onward and upward phase (i.e., after the implementation) and, hence, must be resolved reactively. Prior research on misfits and resolution strategies has primarily focused on the implementation phase, often assuming that close-to-perfect information on the misfit's nature and characteristics is available. However, no study has examined how to effectively complete a shared diagnosis and resolution of misfits when diverging individual user perceptions are taken as the starting point. Such situations may be particularly pronounced in pluralistic organisations, where a variety of interdependent processes and potentially competing perceptions of processes are prevalent. The main objective of this study is to address this gap. To this end, we propose a pragmatic method for the diagnosis and resolution of misfits between organisational processes and enterprise systems, which builds on an actionable conceptualization of misfits. This method builds on theoretical concepts of affordances, affordance actualization, user participation, and change agentry. To demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method, we conducted an action research study in a university hospital. Our analysis focused on a specific misfit involving the hospital's ES-supported clinical processes. The findings suggest that the method effectively diagnoses and resolves misfits and optimises the resources required for their resolution through efficient management of user participation. We conclude with a discussion of the theoretical and practical contributions of our work. Collapse

Abstract: There is a promising body of work pertaining to the strategic value of IT-enabled self-organised collectives in times of crisis. This area is of significant theoretical and practical importance. Yet, we still have little systematic knowledge about precisely how self-organised collectives contribute during crises and how the value of their contributions might be leveraged strategically. To address this, we develop a model to demonstrate four dimensions across which self-organised collectives create strategic value: (i) information sharing value; (ii) collective resourcemobilisation value; (iii) network value; and (iv) generative value. In doing so, we reveal more about the specific capabilities of self-organised collectives, and we use these insights to develop implications for theory. We conclude by outlining an agenda to encourage and accelerate future research on the role of IT-enabled self-organised collectives during crises. Collapse

Abstract: Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) is an important means of resolving disputes outside of traditional legal frameworks. It is usually adopted because of its flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and ability to preserve relationships that a contentious court battle might damage. This study aims to evaluate the scientific publication related to ADR. To do so, we used metadata of ADR-related articles from 1981 to 2022 collected in the Web of Science Core Collection and carried out a bibliometric, network, and latent Dirichlet allocation analysis. Our results indicate that ADR research is concentrated in North America, with research organizations from the United States accounting for most publications. At the same time, recent years have seen a shift to a more diverse group of countries, with the Chinese City University of Hong Kong and the Australian Victoria University leading in the last five years. The five main topics in ADR research include online dispute resolution for consumer protection, mediation for family law, arbitration in medical malpractice cases, ADR in construction projects, and ADR in employment law. The most frequent research areas assigned to ADR publications are Government & Law and Business & Economics. Network results show keywords ADR, Mediation, and Arbitration as central nodes, while the Chinese and North American organizations established the most frequent collaborations, addressing ADR applications in various sectors. The findings underscore the interdisciplinary nature of ADR research, its adaptability across industries, and the importance of cross-cultural research partnerships. Collapse

Abstract: Personal Intelligent Agents (PIAs), such as Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa, are different from traditional information systems. They possess unique design features and are increasingly available through various technological devices. Due to PIAs’ relative novelty, little is known about the determinants of their continued use. An investigation into PIAs’ characteristics and their impact on users’ post-adoption evaluations is expected to have theoretical and practical implications for PIA design and sustained usage. Our research model integrates perceptions of intelligence, anthropomorphism, and self-extension into the unified model of information technology continuance. Our findings show the key role of perceived intelligence of the PIA on continuance intention and indicate that hedonic perceptions of the agent become less important during post-adoption. Our results also highlight the role of perceived ownership and personalisation as antecedents of perceived self-extension. Collapse

Abstract: In today's highly dynamic global market, firms increasingly conduct R&D internationally to enhance their innovation and competitiveness. We analyze the relationship between firm internationalization strategy and innovation performance. We argue that the relationship is inverse U-shaped, due to concave returns and convex costs of firm internationalization regarding innovation performance. We test our hypothesis using a novel machine-learning technique and develop a dictionary on internationalization, based on the most-cited papers on firm internationalization. We then apply this dictionary to firms' 10-K annual reports to obtain a unique score of each firm's internationalization strategy and use panel data econometrics to analyze the relationship with innovation performance. The results support the hypothesis of an inverted U-shape relationship between firms' internationalization strategy and innovation performance. Further tests substantiate the findings. Our study contributes to the literature on firm internationalization and firm innovation by identifying a trade-off in benefits and costs of firm internationalization. Collapse

Abstract: Bringing Practice into the classroom is nothing new. But the recent pandemic provided a greenfield for us to recalibrate what it means to bring Practice into the classroom. This is likely more imperative in the IS Introductory Course in business schools as our discipline should be leading the way with technology driven change.This paper brings together the well-established flipped classroom pedagogy with the latest techniques employed in Practice, to introduce a novel course delivery framework for IS Intro classes. This framework not only motivates a more innovative and practice-influenced classroom, it employs the Agile method of work, providing educators a way toward rapid implementation in their individual classes, multi-section courses, or across courses department wide. Abstract: This paper investigates the impact of an active learning exercise designed to help undergraduate IT/IS (Information Technology/Information Systems) and business students recognize the importance of a common domain vocabulary for collaboration in the ambiguous settings which will be endemic in their careers as IT/IS professionals. We provide preliminary results to promote further research. We also investigated and assessed the robustness of our learning exercise with students with high exam performance and with low performance, and with students in the US and China, all showing improved recognition of the importance of a common domain vocabulary for collaboration. Abstract: Esports games can be seen as platform based prosumption experiences as players co-produce their media experiences through play. This can be viewed as peer-to-peer prosumption where users create value between themselves for emotional and social outcomes. Smurfing represents a form of play where higher skilled users compete with lower skilled players through an alternative account that ensures a mismatch in skill abilities. Through an auto-netnographic approach augmented with interviews on the CS:GO matchmaking platform, this paper provides new insights on a common practice that has received little attention to date. Three key themes were identified that illustrate that this complex phenomenon should not always be framed in a negative fashion. Smurfing should be understood as embedded within peer-to-peer prosumer platforms, driven by complex motivations and framed as cheating according to perspective. The problem of why and how SMEs engage with social media has received scant attention. Informed by structuration and sensemaking theories, this qualitative inquiry attempts to close this gap by scrutinizing cognitive and collective pre-adoption aspects.
