Abstract: There is a growing number of newly emerging digital sectors where firms have potential for a rapid scalable expansion. One of them is mobile gaming, being triggered by development of smart devices, where Finland-based entrepreneurial firms have captured global markets in an extremely fast pace. How and why have these Finnish firms achieved a global market positioning, particularly in the light of Finland’s small home market, relative cultural isolation, and peripheral location? By building on the institutional polycentrism approach, this paper sheds light on how global industry-specific and informal socio-cultural institutional arrangements have been reinforced by local formal, government-sponsored ones to create the conditions for global leadership in a digital industry. This paper makes important contribution to the better understanding of the role of institutions in driving emergence of digital industries and shaping global competitiveness of home country firms in these digital sectors. Abstract: Motivated by the critical yet unsolved task of fair value distribution in digital ecosystems (DEs), this study presents a methodological approach that allows us to determine ecosystem components' value share to the total co-created value. Our method takes a holistic perspective on DEs. It suggests that when viewing DEs as complex networks, the value share of a component to the total co-created value stems from the network size and the interaction between the network participants. We demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method in a simulation of a Smart Living service ecosystem. Our simulation shows that our method is suitable for unraveling hitherto hidden interconnectedness between value-co-creating ecosystem components. Components that offer a low structural contribution to the total value can still play a crucial role in the network and have the most significant value share to the whole network. Collapse

Abstract: Understanding what information is important for consumers when making a purchase-related decision has been a key question for researchers and practitioners ever since the advent of empirical research in commerce. Nevertheless, our knowledge of what information is important has been formed primarily through post-purchase conscious capturing approaches, such as surveys and questionnaires. To overcome these limitations, we ground this research on an exploratory study that captures eye-tracking data during a decision-making task of product selection. Grounded on the dynamic attention theory, we utilize different information types and formats present on a popular social commerce platform, to identify elements which are important when deciding about online product purchase decision. Specifically, we employ a series of prediction algorithms and use an ensemble learning setup to predict the aspects that contribute to product selection by consumers. Our analysis highlights the most important informational cues to accurately predict product selection among alternatives. In addition, the results showcase how such elements shift in importance during the temporal sequence of comparing different product alternatives. Our results provide insight into how we can understand the journey of decision-making for social commerce customers when navigating through information to select a product. In addition, it opens the discussion about the shifts that eye-tracking in combination with machine learning can create for researchers and marketers. Collapse

Abstract: Governing artificial intelligence (AI) requires cooperation, although the collaboration’s form remains unclear. Technological frames provide a theoretical perspective for understanding how actors interpret a technology and act upon its development, use, and governance. However, we know little about how actors shape technological frames. In this paper, we study the shaping of the technological frame of the European ecosystem for responsible AI (RAI). Through an analysis of EU documents, we identified four expectations that constitute the EU’s technological frame for the RAI ecosystem. Moreover, through interviews with RAI actors, we revealed five types of expectation work responding to this frame: reproducing, translating, and extending (congruent expectation work), and scrutinizing and rooting (incongruent expectation work). Furthermore, we conceptualize expectation work as actors’ purposive actions in creating and negotiating expectations. Our study contributes to the literature on technological frames, technology-centered ecosystems, and RAI while also elucidating the dimensions and co-shaping of technological frames. Collapse

Abstract: In this paper, we apply the Analytic Hierarchy Process approach to conflict resolution in the context of the Russia–Ukraine conflict. We build models that illustrate the evaluation criteria, strategic and sub-criteria, and concessions for each party in this negotiation. Ratings are used to evaluate the degree to which concessions contribute or take away from successful resolution of the conflict. Afterwards, gain ratios are built to determine the benefit-cost scores so that concessions may be traded that result in equitable solutions. The approach presented here demonstrates for the first time why all concessions that parties to a conflict may offer might not trade all at once. A Max–Min optimization approach is used to maximize the gain to both parties of the conflict while minimizing the disparity in gain between the two. Collapse

Abstract: This study extends the post-acceptance model of information systems (IS) continuance, which is widely used to explain users’ satisfaction and IS continuance intentions. The extended model includes additional variables such as perceived ease of use (PEOU), attitude, trust, and enjoyment. The proposed model was tested using metaanalytic structural equation modeling (MASEM). The analysis included 1,056 observations on fifteen relation­ ships from 214 independent studies with a combined sample of 84,343. The results confirm the significance of all the relationships proposed in the original model. Furthermore, the findings indicate that PEOU directly in­ fluences perceived usefulness, satisfaction, and attitude. Trust and enjoyment both have a positive impact on users’ satisfaction and IS continuance, wherein the effect of enjoyment was higher than trust. post-consumption satisfaction resulted in a favorable attitude toward technology, which further affected IS continuance. From a theoretical perspective, the current study acknowledges the shift in users’ attitude toward technology and em­ phasizes the hedonic value of IS usage as users report a higher degree of satisfaction toward responsive, easy to use, and enjoyable technologies. Marketers should focus on the enjoyment and gratifications derived from technology to increase potential IS usage. Collapse

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to explore the various privacy and security concerns conveyed by social media users in relation to the use of mHealth wearable technologies, using Grounded Theory and Text Mining methodologies. The results of the emerging theory explain that the concerns of users can be categorized as relating to data management, data surveillance, data invasion, technical safety, or legal & policy issues. The results show that over time, mHealth users are still concerned about areas such as security breaches, real-time data invasion, surveillance, and how companies use the data collected from these devices. Further, the results from the emotion and sentiment analyses revealed that users generally exhibited anger and fear, and sentiments that were negatively expressed. Theoretically, the results also support the literature on user acceptance of mHealth wearables as influenced by the distrust of companies and their utilization of personally harvested data. Collapse

Abstract: With growing investment into the metaverse or metaverses, the required hardware and software is becoming more powerful and cheaper, and tech firms’ expectations for this market are high. In parallel, consumer brands are claiming their digital real estate as consumers seek experiences beyond those available in the real world. Having people engage on this platform is important for all stakeholders. To address this much needed level of engagement, this editorial introduces the concept of immersive time (ImT), which is described as the conscious, deliberate, and dedicated time spent using a headset and other accessories to continually engage in the meta­ verse, presumably at least in part to escape the real world. Once in ImT, there are rather limited opportunities to multitask and simultaneously devote time to the activities within the metaverse and the real world. As such, while prolonged ImT is important for the stakeholders, it is imperative to recognize the inherent dark sides of this time. Understanding ImT has important implications for researchers and practitioners (including tech de­ velopers, and brand and marketing managers who contemplate their metaverse strategies), and policymakers who aim to ensure customers’ safety when immersing in the metaverse. This editorial concludes with an agenda for future research to enhance our understanding of consumer behaviors and engagement in the metaverse. Collapse

Abstract: Digitalization is transforming the dynamic of entrepreneurial opportunity pursuit to the extent that traditional theories of internationalization may no longer effectively explain firms’ internationalization patterns. To test alternative perspectives, we introduce a business model design lens to the study of entrepreneurial internationalization in the digital age. Drawing on a multiple case study research of six new ventures, we induct a three-layer model of internationalization process, which distinguishes between digital, ecosystem, and country layers. While the country layer is extensively studied in traditional internationalization models, the digital and ecosystem layers are new. Our case evidence shows that the digitalization of the firm’s context enables it to extend interactions beyond domestic borders already at the value discovery stage, thereby enabling internationalization in the formative stages of business model design process. The internationalization layers also demonstrate how new ventures that start as global, narrow their foreign market scope at later states. Collapse

However, the path through which cloud computing creates firm performance is not adequately answered in the literature. Adopting the Resource-Based View (RBV), we propose that cloud computing adoption creates operational capability for the firm, which will drive superior firm performance.
