Abstract: Experiments play an important role in Information Systems research. In this area, Virtual Reality (VR) technologies can serve as a tool for enabling and conducting research. e.g., to investigate human behavior in specific situations. A prime example is VR-supported driving simulators that allow researchers in the automotive domain to gather knowledge while reducing cost and complexity compared to field studies with real cars. We argue that the use of carefully designed VR-supported experiments might allow researchers to get deeper insights into human behavior. Thus, we derive design principles for VR Experiments as an artifact from the literature about VR-supported driving simulations that have been accepted as a useful tool for research in their domain. Abstract: Experimental research is a fundamental component of scientific inquiry, but the realism of experimental settings may be limited due to a trade-off between internal and external validity. Virtual Reality technology offers a potential solution to this problem by creating highly controlled, yet realistic experimental settings. In this study, we investigate the potential of VR to increase perceived realism in experimental research by identifying and examining the effects of VR experiments on participants' perceived realism. In our experiment, we compare the level of perceived realism between artificial scenarios presented as text vignettes and in VR. Our findings indicate that VR experiments elicite a significantly higher level of perceived realism compared to text-based experiments. Additionally, we use partial least squares structural equation modeling to investigate the identified concepts. We recommend that researchers consider using VR technology to enhance the realism of experimental settings and improve the validity of their findings. Collapse

Abstract: Metaverses are immersive virtual worlds in which people interact as avatars. There is emerging interest in understanding how metaverse users behave and perceive activities and tasks. Our understanding of users' behavior within metaverses is limited. This study examines the role of emotions in the movement of individuals. We therefore implement a metaverse setting using virtual reality technology and development tools. In our study, we manipulated negative emotions and tracked the movements of our participants. We show how negative emotion influences movements in a metaverse setting. Based on a literature review, we select and calculate movement features to train a support vector machine. As our result, we present a novel way to infer the negative emotions of metaverse users which will help create more engaging and immersive experiences that cater to user's emotions and behaviors. Our study provides preliminary evidence for the potential utilization of movement data in the metaverse. Collapse

Abstract: Linguistic variables are flexible and intuitive attraction for expressing the wording of decision makers. This paper introduces a new type of linguistic fuzzy sets called linguistic dual hesitant fuzzy sets to express the hesitancy of decision makers’ qualitative preferences and non-preferences. Considering the application in decision making, linguistic dual hesitant fuzzy preference relations (LDHFPRs) are introduced that permit the decision makers to apply several linguistic variables to indicate a qualitative preferred judgment and a qualitative non-preferred judgment, respectively. To rank objects from LDHFPRs rationally, a consistency concept is first presented. Then, two optimal models are built to judge the consistency of LDHFPRs. When LDHFPRs are inconsistent, an optimal model-based iteration algorithm for obtaining consistent LDHFPRs is offered. Based on consistent linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy preference relations, a method for calculating the weighted linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy priority vector is introduced. In the setting of group decision making (GDM), a consensus measure based on individually weighted consistent reverse complementary linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy preference relations is defined. When the consensus does not satisfy the requirement, a two-step optimal model-based method for increasing the consensus level is offered. Furthermore, an approach for GDM with LDHFPRs is developed. Finally, an illustrative example concerning the evaluation of basic services internet enterprise websites is provided to show the efficiency of the new method. Collapse

Abstract: Cheating in online games poses a risk to game publishers, as it deters other gamers and reduces revenues. These facts make it essential for game publishers to understand 'who' in the sense of gamers with what personalities have cheating intentions. Building on psychology research, we draw on (a) the big five personality traits and (b) the dark triad personality traits to explain how these reflect gamers' personalities and together lead to cheating intentions. Following a configurational approach (N=192), we reveal two configurations leading to high cheating intention and one leading to low cheating intention. We contribute to online gaming research by revealing that gamers with cheating intentions have specific personalities. We advance information systems (IS) personality research by combining broad and dark triad traits to explain divergent behavior like cheating. Collapse

Abstract: Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) has recently gained a lot of attention, especially in the last few years. Scholars have conducted systematic literature reviews to gain more knowledge about responsible AI. However, no study has collected and evaluated the most significant barriers to responsible AI. We filled this gap in the literature by identifying eleven barriers and categorized them, using the Technology-Organization-Environment framework, into three categories. We collected data from seven experts and used the analytical hierarchy process to evaluate the importance of the barriers. The results indicated that technology, as a category, is the most important. The findings also recommended that data quality is the most vital among all eleven barriers. We offered eleven propositions as a theoretical contribution for future researchers in terms of conceptual development. We discussed the implications of the findings for research and practice. Abstract: AI systems offer organizations great benefits causing decision-makers to invest more in these systems. The ad­ vantages of AI cannot be achieved without successful implementation. Thus, it is crucial to recognize the factors impacting the successful implementation of AI. It is also important to assess and rank these factors by their importance to assist decision-makers in implementing these systems and increasing the success rate. Due to its importance, scholars called for studies to expand our knowledge in this critical area. This paper identifies, ex­ tracts, and assesses the most critical factors that influence the implementation of AI systems. This study identifies nineteen factors and categorizes them into four categories: organization, technology, process, and environment. The analytical hierarchy process is used to evaluate the factors and the categories. The analysis offers two types of results, at the category level and the level of the factors. The results indicate that technology is the most significant of the four categories. The results also suggest that ethics is the most crucial factor among all nineteen factors. The order of all factors and discussions of the implications of the findings for practice and research are presented in the paper. Collapse

Abstract: Research shows variability in how alcohol-related blackouts (periods of memory loss during/after drinking) are subjectively evaluated. We accessed 3.5 million original Tweets written in the U.S. between July 2009 and February 2020 that referenced blackouts, and coded the sentiment (positive or negative) of those Tweets, using the machine learning function of a Twitter-sponsored commercial platform. The sentiment of Tweets was examined by day of week and compared to the sentiment of blackout Tweets on certain holidays to non-celebration matched days. Tweets were more likely to have a positive (73%) than negative sentiment, and positive Tweets were more common during weekends. Relative to typical non-celebratory weekends, a greater proportion of blackout Tweets were positive around Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve, though differences were not observed relative to several other celebratory periods (e.g., Superbowl). Results have implications for online interventions, which can use social networking sites to target alcohol during high-risk periods. Collapse

Abstract: Affordance theory provides one of the most prominent lenses through which the socio-technical aspects of a system’s use can be investigated and understood. In this context, the literature has proposed that perceived and actualized affordances may be adjusted over time. Yet, how the adjustment of affordances occurs has not been explained in detail. Thus, in this article, we develop a conceptual model of feedback mechanisms that includes a more explicit description of how affordances are perceived by users, whether actualized and adjusted. With the model, we introduce the central concept of a generative base, out of which affordance perceptions emerge and which can be updated through affordance actualizations. With this base, we integrate mental model (MM) theory to explain better the differing perceptions before and after actor–artifact interactions. Our conceptual model is illustrated and specified using an empirical case of the mental mobile health (mHealth) app “Between The Lines” in Germany. In this study, we conducted 40 interviews in two rounds with 20 teenage app users. Our results show that the users’ perceptions of mHealth affordances become adjusted and hence change over time due to expe­ riencing the actualization process, which may lead to an update of the generative base, including the user’s MM.
