Abstract: While acknowledging the many benefits of anytime-anywhere connectivity, recent research has called for further investigation into the maladaptive side of mobile technology use in the work-family interface realm. We rely on resource drain theory to investigate how family-work conflict (FWC) is linked to excessive use of mobile devices for work purposes during nonwork hours, which, in turn, affects individual productivity and physiological, psychological, and relational well-being. Furthermore, we examine the role of competitive climate as a boundary condition. We conducted a field study across two measurement periods involving 324 individuals and their live-in partners. Our results suggest that FWC affects productivity and well-being through excessive mobile use and that competitive climate amplifies these effects. The study contributes to a better understanding of the excessive mobile use phenomenon focusing on its determinants and its consequences. Abstract: The phenomenon of Technostress (TS) -the stress experienced by end-users of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) -is often considered as a dark side of technology use. TS creators, factors that create TS, is a second-order construct with dimensions techno-overload, techno-invasion, techno-complexity, techno-insecurity, and techno-uncertainty. This study takes a holistic approach by proposing how the complex interactions among individual characteristics, IT features, and environmental factors influence employees' perceptions of TS creators. Based on past research, we include three personality traits, i.e., neuroticism, personal innovativeness in IT, and IT mindfulness for individual characteristics. Additionally, two technological features, presenteeism and anonymity are considered, while literacy facilitation, technical support provision, and social support are the environmental factors. Data will be collected using an online survey from full-time employees and analyzed using fuzzy sets qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). Abstract: This research proposes a typology of social media affordances in the context of social media-enabled social movements. Social media technologies shape and facilitate the spread of such social movements by lowering individuals' participation costs, increasing general accessibility to information, fostering connectivity, and creating a platform where users can generate content. We propose a typology of affordances to theorize the spread of these movements from the embryonic stage to its established stage. To do so, coalesced affordance, a new type of affordance, and the existing shared, collective, and connective affordances are used. We also integrate the role of social networks and network theory in developing the proposed typology. Finally, the study's implications, limitations, and future research direction are discussed. Abstract: In multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems, ranking alternatives is usually the end. However, in real life, it is rarely an end in itself and serves as a means to an end. Further, in real-life problems, the selection of alternatives is usually made with the aid of unique experts, and thus minimizing the influence of the uncertainty of their subjective judgements on the optimality of the decisions is a critical issue. The current study proposes a novel Interval Ordinal Priority Approach to objectively solve these and other issues by allowing uncertainty analysis and quantification. The study argues that when the model’s input contains uncertainty (even if represented by crisp numbers), expecting the output to be free from uncertainty is an unrealistic conjecture. Therefore, unlike the conventional MCDM models producing crisp weights, the proposed approach yields interval weights with the length of the interval representing the uncertainty (inconsistency among the experts’ judgements). Also, instead of resorting to the subjective measurement of thresholds to qualify or disqualify a set of inputs based on the degree of uncertainty, a novel objective measure of threshold is put forward. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated through illustrative examples and comparative analysis. Later, the study is concluded with the implications for real-world decision-making. Abstract: Cross-sectional data is pervasive in information systems (IS) research. This editorial reviews cross-sectional studies, summarizes their strengths and limitations, and derives use cases of when cross-sectional data is and is not useful in answering research questions. We raise concerns about assertions of temporal causality using data collected employing cross-sectional methods with no temporal order, which makes cause and effect difficult to establish. Based on our discussion of research using cross-sectional data and its limitations, we offer four rec­ ommendations for when and how to use such data: (1) improve credibility by reporting research in detail and transparently, (2) ensure appropriate sampling, (3) take configurational perspectives, and (4) integrate crosssectional data into mixed- or multi-method designs. By doing so, we help IS researchers position and use cross-sectional studies appropriately within their methodological repertoire. Collapse

Abstract: The extant creativity literature suggests that creative projects evolve in organizations through either formal or informal channels. This article advances creativity research beyond these two limited single-channel conceptualizations by exploring why and how creative projects evolve by accessing both formal and informal channels. In a study of a creative communications campaign in a subsidiary of a Fortune 500 multinational corporation, we find that switching from the formal to the informal channel allows the creative project to bypass organizational barriers and secure strategic autonomy, whereas switching from the informal to the formal channel allows the creative project to preserve its legitimacy and secure resources. Our analysis reveals that these bidirectional channel-switching transitions are propelled by four versatile subprocesses: selective concealment; strategic use of time; exploitation of hierarchical and knowledge gaps; and shared wins framing. Drawing on our findings, we develop a dual-channel process model of creative evolution that provides a missing theoretical link between, on the one hand, the variable conditions that impel creative projects to follow at times formal and at other times informal channels, and on the other hand, the differential mechanisms through which the two directions of channel switching allow creative projects to further evolve. Abstract: Scientific networks are often investigated by means of citation analyses. Yet, interpretation of such networks in terms of semantic (and often disciplinary) content heavily depends on supplementary knowledge, notably about author research specialties. Similar situations arise more generally in many types of social networks whose semantic interpretation relies on supplementary information. Here, author community networks are inferred from a topic model which provides direct insights into the semantic specificities of the identified "hidden communities of interest" (HCoI). Using a philosophy of science corpus of full-text articles (N=16,917), we investigate its underlying communities by measuring topic profile correlations between authors. A diachronic perspective is built by modeling the research networks over different time-periods and mapping genealogical relationships between communities. The results show a marked increase in philosophy of science communities over time and trace the progressive appearance of the specialization areas that structure the field today. Collapse

Abstract: Contributions by individual open source software (OSS) community members are the lifeblood of the OSS projects that power today's digital economy and are important for the very survival of such communities. Individual contributions by OSS community members to others' projects and their own determine whether OSS communities are resilient in the face of major shocks. Arguably, if crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic prompt users to reduce their contributions to others' projects relative to the contributions to their own projects, such behavior can have implications for the overall resilience of the OSS community. Therefore, whether and how individuals change their contributions in the face of a crisis is an important question. We examine whether members in an OSS community increased or decreased their contributions to others' projects relative to their own in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, a sudden and unexpected global health-related shock that has affected almost everyone. We also compare and contrast this behavior when the OSS community faced increasing unemployment, an economic cyclic shock that is arguably and relatively more personal. Drawing on the concept of prosocial behavior and conservation of resources (COR) theory, we hypothesize that the pandemic increased OSS community members' contributions to others' projects relative to their own; on the other hand, the threat of rising unemployment decreased OSS community members' contributions to others' projects relative to their own. Our empirical analyses of a longitudinal dataset of over 18,000 OSS community members on GitHub, with more than 1.4 million member-day observations, support our hypotheses. This study contributes by uncovering the differential effects of exogenous health-related and economic shocks on the resilience of the OSS community. We conclude with a discussion of our findings' implications for OSS community resilience. Collapse

Abstract: Despite significant efforts on improving interoperability of health information and lowering socio-technical cost of replacing clinical applications, healthcare organizations and professionals struggle with fragmented and non-interoperable Health Information Technologies. This paper describes the emergence of open platforms, which may alleviate challenges related to interoperability issues, weak integrations, siloed data repositories, and numerous legacy systems within healthcare. Using a proposed platform initiative in Norway, we explore the open platform phenomenon with a socio-technical lens, and highlights four key topics that have produced tension and merits consideration from the involved stakeholders: i) Procurement strategy and vendor neutrality, ii) Ability to facilitate flexible use, iii) The use of standards and separation of data and application, and iv) Strategies for development and governance of standards. Abstract: While the transformative effect of digital platforms is broadly recognized, digital platform-related research evolved in largely disconnected streams focusing on technical platform architecture, network effects, and specific tactical decisions, without offering a holistic view of digital platform strategy. With the goal of advancing digital platform strategy research, we conduct a systematic critical review of research published in the leading Information Systems journals through a pragmatic business strategy lens that argues that markets, partnerships, differentiators, staging, and profit logic form the core elements of a holistic business strategy.
