Abstract: Medium-type reward is a token that people receive as an immediate reward for their effort and can be traded for a desired outcome, and has been widely used in various promoting campaigns. However, our understanding of its impact remains limited. This research focuses on the effect of medium-type reward on individuals' referral intention in online reward referral programs. Based on general evaluability theory, we propose the medium minimization effect, i.e., individuals have higher referral intention when the numerical value of medium-type reward is small (vs. large) and that the effect will be attenuated when the reward strategy does not care whether referral is successful or the actual reward is uncertain. Results of three experimental studies support our hypotheses. Findings put forward new insights into the medium effect, as well as its potential mechanism, and individuals' referral behavior, and can help firms optimize the design of online reward referral program systems. Abstract: As an emerging technological means to influence user, digital nudging is being used by more and more custom manufacturers. This research explores the influence of digital nudging design in online customization system on user satisfaction. I propose that for novices, the adoption of digital nudging can reduce the design effort and increase their satisfaction; for experts, the adoption of digital nudging will reduce users' feeling of accomplishment and reduce satisfaction. In addition, the influence of overt digital nudging (ODN) is stronger than that of covert digital nudging (CDN). We designed 3 experiments to investigate them. This research can extend the understanding of the study on user customization satisfaction and the effect of digital nudging and provide guidance for manufacturers to optimize the design of customization systems. Abstract: The importance of pursuing financial inclusion to accelerate economic growth and enhance financial sustainability has been well noted. However, studies have provided few actionable insights into how financial institutions can balance the potential socioeconomic trade-off between profitability and equality. One major challenge arises from a lack of understanding of the impacts of various types of market information available on financial equality beyond economic profitability. Another challenge lies in how the socioeconomic trade-off under a large set of counterfactual policies in a real-world setting can be evaluated. Our motivation for the present study was the emerging sources of digitized user-behavior data (i.e., "alternative data") stemming from the high penetration of mobile devices and internet access. Accordingly, we investigated how alternative data from smartphones and social media can help mitigate potential financial inequality while preserving business profitability in the context of financial credit risk assessment. We partnered with a leading microloan website to design a novel "meta" experiment that allowed us to simulate various real-world field experiments under an exhaustive set of counterfactual policies. Interestingly, we found that profiling user financial risk using smartphone activities is 1.3 times more effective in improving financial inclusion than using online social media information (23.05% better vs. 18.11%), and nearly 1.3 times more effective in improving business profitability (42% better vs. 33%). Surprisingly, we found that using consumers' online shopping activities for credit risk profiling can hurt financial inclusion. Furthermore, we investigated potential explanations for financial inclusion improvements. Our findings suggest that alternative data, especially users' smartphone activities, not only demonstrate higher ubiquity but also appear to be more orthogonal to conventional sensitive demographic attributes. This, in turn, can help mitigate statistical bias driven by the unobserved factors or underrepresentative training samples in machine-based risk assessment processes. Collapse

Abstract: Understanding consumer information processing is fundamental. Previous studies investigated the effect of message framing and self-construal in green consumption using self-reported measures and obtaining contrasting results. This study used the eye-tracking method across two studies to examine the effect of promotion- vs. prevention-framed messages on green consumption. Study 1 confirms that promotion (vs. prevention)-framed information attracts more attention from independent (vs. interdependent) individuals. Moreover, temporal distance strengthens this matching effect (Study 2). Overall, this study uncovers consumers’ processing of messages with different regulatory frames from a visual attention perspective and offers valuable insights about the three-way interaction to promote green consumption. Abstract: Requirements engineering is perceived as one of software development's most vital but complex activities. Despite considerable advances, many software products continue to fail to fulfil their users' needs. A multistakeholder environment with several groups of users and developers additionally exacerbates known challenges in requirements elicitation. Following principles of action research, we investigate how practices of design thinking as an established approach to human-centred innovation may overcome or at least attenuate challenges of requirements elicitation in a multi-stakeholder environment. By observing and modelling the current requirements elicitation process of a multi-stakeholder app development project of an international OEM, we identified several challenges, for example, related to arbitrary prioritisation of requirements. Integrating our empirical observations of the requirements elicitation process with extant knowledge of design thinking, we propose a new requirements engineering process to address the challenges we identified. An evaluation of Infused Design thinking within the new process in the app development project supports the expectation of improved outcomes. As a key benefit, we observed improvements in the understanding of user needs in the engineering and development teams when harnessing the new process. We conclude by discussing the implications of our results for both research and practice. Collapse

Abstract: Supplier reliability and order fulfilment performance are usually assessed using a perfect-order calculation. In­ formation management of perfect-order estimation is frequently reduced to expert estimates and to the multi­ plication of probabilities of failure-free performance of some logistics operations. Moreover, perfect-order estimation is calculated without consideration of supply chain structure, possible combinations of failures, and operational policies (e.g., safety stock levels and alternative transportation routes). As a result, the existing methods frequently provide different estimates for the same statistics and cannot be consistently used in the allocation of companies’ resources to improve the order fulfilment process. This paper considers different var­ iants of probabilistic assessment of a perfect order and proposes an approach to assess the impact of changes in parameter probabilities and number of parameters on the value of a perfect order. The proposed models are based on an analytical approach using discrete distributions of random variables. We illustrate the applicability of our approach to several numerical examples to confirm the adequacy of the proposed method. Our approach can be immediately applied in practice to assess supply and order fulfilment process reliability and to evaluate the effectiveness of various operational policies (safety stock levels or modes of transportation) to achieve some planned values of a perfect order in the supply chain. Through a case study review, this study describes the operationalisation of the co-design approach to develop an Information Communication Technology (ICT) platform to address the complex, wicked problem faced in Water Sensitive Design (WSD), namely stakeholder engagement. The ICT platform aimed to integrate data from different disciplines to facilitate the collaboration and engagement of WSD stakeholders. However, researchers have observed that IT benefits are short-lived and have called for studies on how organizations can sustain the derivation of IT benefits, especially in dynamic environments. Research shows that the integration of IT assets and other organizational resources needed to form IT-enabled resources from which organizations derive IT benefits can also constrain the renewal of IT-enabled resources to sustain the derivation of IT benefits. In this study, we draw on relevant theories, published empirical cases, and a primary case study to explore, from a structural perspective, the renewal of IT-enabled resources to sustain the derivation of IT benefits. We find that certain structural properties (i.e., component flexibility, component centrality, and component coupling) emerge during the formation and modification of IT-enabled resources and influence the renewal of IT-enabled resources. We extend Nevo and Wade's model on the formation of IT-enabled resources with the structural properties and offer eight propositions on how the structural properties and organizational capabilities influence the renewal of IT-enabled resources. We discuss the theoretical and managerial implications and identify areas for future research.The study makes three key theoretical contributions. Firstly, it identifies three structural properties of an IT-enabled resource namely component flexibility, component centrality, and component coupling, and extends Nevo and Wade's (2011, 2010) model on the formation of IT-enabled resources with the structural properties that influence the renewal of IT-enabled resources. Secondly, it shows that the three structural properties individually enable or constrain the renewal of an IT-enabled resource. Further, whereas component centrality moderates the influence of component flexibility on the renewal of ITenabled resources, component coupling moderates the influence of component centrality and component flexibility on the renewal of IT-enabled resources. Thirdly, based on the narratives from 18 published cases, and one primary case study, this study contributes eight propositions that relate the structural properties and organizational capability to the renewal of IT-enabled resources to sustain the derivation of IT benefits. The contributions complement the organizational capability view on the renewal of resources in that they explicate the structural properties of resources that determine the extent to which resources can yield themselves to renewal.With the emerging demands for new resource combinations (e.g., in pursuance of digital transformation and digitalization), managers can leverage our findings on the three structural properties to guide the formation and renewal of IT-enabled resources and the creation of "shifting synergies" Collapse

Abstract: Online consumer reviews play an important role in helping consumers judge the quality and authenticity of products on e-commerce platforms. However, the constant presence of fake reviews on these platforms has significantly impacted the operation and development of e-commerce platforms. In this study, we develop a novel supervised probabilistic method to detect fake reviews by utilizing the difference in the distribution of nonfraudulent reviews and that of fake reviews. Specifically, we first derive the univariate distributions of several unique features (linguistic, behavioral, and interrelationship features). We then integrate these distributions into two mixed distributions according to their labels to represent the overall difference between non-fraudulent reviews and fake reviews. Next, we randomly generate synthetic review data points with different labels from the above mixed distributions. Finally, we train a Multilayer Perceptron model by using these synthetic review data to obtain a classifier. We conducted several experiments to test the model using several original real-world review datasets. Numerical results indicated that the proposed supervised method outperformed some wellknown sampling models and fake review detection methods, in terms of classification accuracy. Moreover, we extend the proposed method to handle the scenarios with small samples of raw review data. This study con­ tributes to the literature by exploiting the difference in the distribution of non-fraudulent reviews and that of fraudulent reviews, which can improve the accuracy of fake review detection for online platforms.
