As digital technologies advance, businesses increasingly utilize virtual teams due to their cost-effectiveness and efficiency. Moreover, in recent years, there has been an increase in interest in a new concept of work environments known as metaverses. However, the creative performance of virtual teams in the metaverse setting is not sufficiently understood. Abstract: As platform owners interact with end users and complementors, their demand-side characteristics and performance affect the overall value creation of ecosystems. This research investigated how the emergence of popular complements on a mobile communication platform impacts the usage of other complementary products by the platform’s end users and how platform owners can benefit from such demand spillovers. We identified two different forms of demand spillovers (i.e., backward and forward) and conceptualized how each subsequently affects platform expansion. On the basis of individual user-level app usage data, we empirically demonstrated how the presence of a popular app alters the demand structure of a platform through changes in the usage of other apps operating within it. The findings reveal that popular app adoption by users increases the number of apps used and the duration of app usage, excluding the usage of popular apps, only within the platform offering a popular app. These results support the existence of positive spillovers from popular complement adoption on a platform. Such positive within-platform spillovers are derived from both backward spillovers onto existing apps adopted before popular app adoption and forward spillovers onto new apps to be adopted after the uptake of favored apps. These patterns suggest that positive spillovers of popular app adoption occur through both the increased retrieval of existing apps and reduced uncertainty about newly released apps. Furthermore, forward spillover is considerably stronger than backward spillover, implying that platform owners can reap benefits by coordinating the launch of new complements and the promotion of less-known counterparts to end users with the emergence of a popular app. These results shed light on how platform owners can manage their complements and create value beyond direct contributions from popular complements. Abstract: Although hotel location has been recognized as one of the important factors affecting hotel selection and guest satisfaction, relatively few studies have examined guest satisfaction with hotel location and its locational determinants at a macro level. This study aims to identify the locational determinants of hotel guest satisfaction through big data spatial analytics via a case study of 5,302 hotels in 151 cities in the U.S. Based on the framework of hotel location satisfaction, we classified all location-related factors into three categories: accessibility to points of interest, transport convenience, and surrounding environment. Our findings indicated that hotel property’s proximity to city area, landmark, park, shopping center, and highway as well as, attraction-driven tourism industry specialization, and hotel industry agglomeration were significant determinants. Furthermore, the impacts of these factors were spatially heterogeneous. These findings can provide geographical insights that are critical for developing a customer service experience and satisfaction model. Collapse

Abstract: Online health communities offer a platform for patients to seek support from other users with similar conditions. As those support seekers' situation improves, they may ultimately want to give back to the community and provide support to others. This study explores how seekers' ability to provide support, operationalized using their cognitive state and social network structure, can influence the seekers' propensity to switch roles and become support providers. We leverage the Dual Perspective Model of Agency and Communion and Social Networks literature to theorize a seeker's ability to provide support. We apply survival analysis to study seekers' first role switch to a provider and the duration from seekers' initial post to role switch. We find that while seekers who have higher positive agency and closeness centrality are more likely to switch roles to a provider, those having higher positive communality, degree centrality, and eigenvector centrality are less likely to switch. Abstract: Yelp is an online social network service in which consumers provide reviews on their local business restaurants. Because our data is in the form of human review text, this study utilizes natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) to vectorize the text reviews and apply sentiment analysis through logistic regression. After optimizing the model parameters, sentiments of popular restaurants in Los Angeles before and during COVID-19 are analyzed. Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) and topic modeling used to gather the topics of reviews and logistic regression is used for feature importance. Data is extracted from available Yelp reviews of restaurants and includes total of 10,390 reviews. Results explain a difference in the number of reviews, sentiments, and the content before and during the COVID-19. This study provides insights for both theory and practice and shed light into the restaurant industry challenges during the global pandemic. Collapse

Abstract: One noticeable trend in the maturing information technology (IT) outsourcing industry is the growing interest from client firms seeking to benefit from supplier-led innovations. Yet IT outsourcing suppliers still find it challenging to shift their reputation from the competent provision of a low-end service to a high-value innovative line of services, thus becoming known as business partners. We address this issue by examining the reputation formation efforts of an IT supplier experiencing a reputation deficit in terms of quality (its ability as a business partner) and intent (its intention to adopt trustworthy behavior). We develop a model based on a case study of a large IT supplier engaged in reputation formation with its outsourcing clients. We portray reputation formation as a process wherein an IT supplier alternately emits signals of quality and intent from a repertoire of signals. Our process model distinguishes between signaling at the market level, which relies on rhetorical mediums to broadcast a message promoting the supplier's ability as a business partner, and signaling at the client level, which relies on substantive mediums such as demonstrations of the supplier's ability to solve the client's business problems and behavioral mediums that allow the client to assess the supplier's intent to adopt trustworthy behavior. Abstract: About 2.8 million tons of food waste are generated in Switzerland every year. Negative environmental impacts of food waste are on average higher at the end of the food chain than at the beginning. So far there are no quantitative studies to evaluate the requirements for information technology (IT) to reduce food waste in Swiss households. To investigate this matter a representative survey was conducted in Switzerland. Based on its results, the authors conclude that IT is expected to be most effective in reducing food waste in Swiss households when focusing on the management of the entire food stock. Therefore, further research should dive into the management of the food stock items as well as exploring more radical concepts to reduce the food stock itself. Collapse

Abstract: Since data and information are becoming important factors in competitiveness in the digital age, organisations tend to have an enormous appetite for data. However, users are becoming increasingly reluctant to provide their data without receiving some benefits. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the extent to which consumers are willing to protect their data by paying for the use of a service with money or with data. This study investigates willingness to pay for an online service by examining both money and data as currency (i.e. the users' privacy costs). Furthermore, this study is an empirical investigation that uses conjoint analysis to determine whether different service types show different preferences and which characteristics are decisive. Abstract: Digital technologies have led to new ways of creating value across organizational boundaries within business ecosystems and now increasingly transform existing business models. However, organizations searching for a successful business model in an ecosystem environment are faced with uncertainty. Previous studies have shown that decision-making can be improved systematically with modeling and simulation. We conducted a two-year action design research study with a B2B start-up and developed a framework with a business ecosystem perspective that supports the use of System Dynamics. This research investigates how an organization in a B2B ecosystem can use simulation to decide on a business model while considering the perspective of other ecosystem actors.
