Abstract: Live streaming has become an important feature on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. More and more entrepreneurs (content creators) are competing in live streaming platforms like Twitch to maximize the attention they receive from consumers (viewers). In this competitive landscape, it is crucial for entrepreneurs to develop and provide new compelling content that can maximize the consumers' attention and aid the discovery of their content. We adopt an exploration-exploitation framework and assess the four strategies these new entrepreneurs could use to attract viewership and position themselves on Twitch: exploration, exploitation, learning from viewers, and their neighbor streamers. We combined the natural language processing techniques with theory-driven measures to accomplish this. Using our proposed measures, we estimate the utility of consumers from these different strategies using the discrete choice demand model. Collapse

Abstract: Cybersecurity threats targeting users are common in today's information systems. Threat actors exploit human behavior to gain unauthorized access to systems and data. The common suggestion for addressing this problem is to train users to behave better using SETA programs. The notion of training users is old, and several SETA methods are described in scientific literature. Yet, incidents stemming from insecure user behavior continue to happen and are reported as one of the most common types of incidents. Researchers argue that empirically proven SETA programs are needed and point out focus on knowledge rather than behavior, along with poor user adoption, as problems with existing programs. The present study aims to research user preferences regarding SETA methods, with the motivation that a user is more likely to adopt a program perceived positively. A qualitative approach is used to identify existing SETA methods, and a quantitative approach is used to measure user preferences regarding SETA delivery. We show that users prefer SETA methods to be effortless and flexible and outline how existing methods meet that preference. The results outline how SETA methods respond to user preferences and how different SETA methods can be implemented to maximize user perception, thereby supporting user adoption. Collapse

Abstract: Advocates consider NFTs a potentially disruptive blockchain-enabled innovation. In light of surging popularity and low theoretical insights, we study NFTs from a lifecycle-driven perspective. We develop a taxonomy that adheres to a habitual method and draws on a five-step process of analyzing literature and real-world projects. Our taxonomy contributes to descriptive knowledge by structuring NFTs with 20 dimensions and 77 characteristics along the perspectives of origination, distribution, transfer, trade, and redeem. We enable researchers and practitioners to grasp the NFT phenomenon in a structured manner and demonstrate the applicability of our taxonomy through expert interviews and case studies. Collapse

Simultaneously, IT policymakers are increasingly concerned with antitrust regulation in the digital realm, abuse of market power, and monopolization cases against the most prominent digital platforms. This paper contributes to this ongoing debate by presenting the Platform Power Abuse Taxonomy. We provide an overview of abusive behaviors, considering the market position of platform orchestrators and differentiating platform types and affected market participants. Adopting a cross-platform approach, we rigorously analyze orchestrators' abuse vehicles and abuse tools to exploit their dominant position by incorporating findings from literature and real-world contexts. Abstract: Digital transformation's scope evolves from being limited to the organizational level to inter-organizational collaboration in supply chain networks and business ecosystems.Blockchain-enabled marketplaces have the potential to transform business networks by eliminating intermediaries. To investigate the interface design and visualization of blockchain-enabled marketplaces, we employed a design science methodology and synthesized knowledge from literature, practice, and qualitative expert interviews. Our research provides (1) theoretically grounded and prescriptive knowledge expressed in meta-requirements and design principles inspired by effective use theory, and (2) presents concrete design features and an expository prototype instantiation. The prototype is evaluated through focus group workshops and interviews with experts and potential users. Our work contributes to recent calls to investigate the design and visualization of blockchain-enabled marketplaces, advances research on blockchain applications in B2B contexts, and expands the literature on information system design for marketplace-oriented transformations. Abstract: For increasing sustainability and mitigating climate change, corporate carbon risk management (CCRM) can be a key enabler. As we outline in this paper, companies currently lack processes and approaches in practice to actively manage complex risks caused by carbon emissions in the form of a comprehensive CCRM. To address this issue and to combine the contributions of currently separate research streams, e.g., corporate carbon accounting and corporate risk management, we develop a taxonomy that illustrates characteristics of IS-based solutions that foster an active CCRM. While our taxonomy builds on a systematic literature review, we evaluate our results with expert interviews. We conclude that CCRM is a complex field in which IS can provide significant support at many stages. Thereby, our taxonomy also contributes to Green IS research and acts as guidance for practitioners. Moreover, we discuss how Blockchains and Artificial Intelligence can pave the way towards targetoriented CCRM in companies. Collapse

Abstract: To cope with climate change, an effective reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is necessary. An acceleration of decarbonization still lacks an efficient way to precisely account GHG emissions. Recent literature acknowledges the role of Information Systems (IS) research, particularly Green IS, to contribute to decarbonization by enabling digital carbon accounting (CA). In this context, various scholars set out to design system architectures -often focusing on the energy sector due to its large potential for decarbonization. As research and practice lack a comprehensive overview (e.g., to develop standards), our work aims at reducing this identified gap by providing key characteristics of digital CA system architectures that we derive from an extensive, structured literature review and a consecutive deductive and descriptive approach. Abstract: Safeguarding democratic elections is hard. Social media plays a vital role in the discourse around elections and during electoral campaigns. The following article provides an analysis of the ‘systemic electoral risks’ created by Twitter and Facebook and the mitigation strategies employed by the platforms. It is based on the 2020 proposal by the European Commission for the new Digital Services Act (DSA) in the context of the 2021 German federal elections. This article focuses on Twitter and Facebook and their roles during the German federal elections that took place on 26 September 2021. We analysed three systemic electoral risk categories: 1) the dissemination of illegal content, 2) negative effects on electoral rights, and 3) the influence of disinformation and developed systematic categories for this purpose. In conclusion, we discuss how to respond to these challenges as well as avenues for future research. Collapse

Abstract: Free sample strategy has attracted considerable interest among practitioners and academics, it has been widely adopted in digital content industries (e.g., e-books, music, and videos). There are two issues that have been the continuous concerning and constantly optimized focus. How many free samples should be taken? How to design a personalized free samples strategy considering the contexts? To better understand these issues, we collaborated with an online reading platform in China to design and conduct a field experiment based on Construal Level Theory (CLT). The results showed an inverted U-shaped relationship between free sample quantity and consumer purchase decisions and also suggested when free chapters were offered, book popularity and quality were also found to positively moderate consumers' purchase decisions. Moreover, by combining the causal forest (CF) technique and the double/debiased machine learning model (DML), we develop a personalized free sample strategy and provide managerial implications. Abstract: Homophily is both a principle for social group formation with like-minded people as well as a mechanism for social interactions. Recent years have seen a growing body of management research on homophily particularly on large-scale social media and digital platforms. However, the predominant traditional qualitative and quantitative methods employed face validity issues and/or are not well-suited for big social data. There are scant guidelines for applying computational methods to specific research domains concerning descriptive patterns, explanatory mechanisms, or predictive indicators of homophily. To fill this research gap, this paper offers a structured review of the emerging literature on computational social science approaches to homophily with a particular emphasis on their relevance, appropriateness, and importance to information systems research. We derive a research taxonomy for homophily and offer methodological reflections and recommendations to help inform future research.Although computational methods are increasingly being adopted for and adapted to information systems (IS) research in general and homophily research in particular, there is a dearth of comprehensive reviews and guidelines of research methodologies appropriate to homophily in digital systems. Most extant literature either qualitatively measures perceived homophily with pre-validated surveys (e.g., "My new Facebook friend: "is similar to/like me") or quantitatively tests hypotheses about homophily with regression models (Dvir-Gvirsman, 2017;Liu and Brown, 2014;Shalizi and Thomas, 2011;Song et al., 2019). Nevertheless, traditional survey-based methods may face threats to construct validity while many regression models like logistic regression may not be a fit for some social network relationships in which observations are not independent (Chipidza and Tripp, 2018;Lazer et al., 2020). To fill the research lacuna, our paper is motivated to offer a structured review of the methodologies being leveraged to study homophily with special emphasis on state-of-the-art computational methods in IS application domains. Our review outlines a roadmap to big data-driven studies in IS by focusing on patterns, explanations, and predictions of homophily in business and social commerce settings and highlighting methodological novelty such as blending traditional research methods with machine learning (ML) that informs future research design. We propose a taxonomy that classifies research themes, data collection techniques, and computational methods in data-driven management research on the mass digitization of homophily. The rest of this paper is organized as follows. Section 2 describes the methodological foundations drawn from the reference discipline of computational social science (CSS). Section 3 presents our literature review procedure. Section 4 reviews two CSS approaches particularly suitable for homophily-social network analysis (SNA) and text analytics. Section 5 illustrates their utility in understanding different dimensions of homophily, especially in the application domains of IS. Section 6 outlines a taxonomy and offers several methodological guidelines for future research. Collapse
