Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain are the two disruptive technologies emerging from the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) that have introduced radical shifts in the industry. The amalgamation of AI and blockchain holds tremendous potential to create new business models enabled through digitalization. Although research on the application and convergence of AI and blockchain exists, our understanding of the utility of its integration for business remains fragmented. To address this gap, this study aims to characterize the applications and benefits of integrated AI and blockchain platforms across different verticals of business. Using bibliometric analysis, this study reveals the most influential articles on the subject based on their publications, citations, and importance in the intellectual network. Using content analysis, this study sheds light on the subject’s intellectual structure, which is underpinned by four major thematic clusters focusing on supply chains, healthcare, secure transactions, and finance and accounting. The study concludes with 10 application areas in business that can benefit from these technologies. Collapse

Abstract: Driven by dynamic competitive conditions, companies’ information technology (IT) functions adopt agile practices and build ambidextrous organizational structures, which, in turn, affect the work environment of individual IT employees. Based on the fundamental assumption of person-environment fit theory that people seek out environments which allow them to behaviorally manifest their traits, this research aims to shift the focus in organizational design choices towards an individual-level perspective. We study whether and how personality traits and work environment characteristics, measured at the individual level of ambidexterity, relate and impact person-job fit (P-J fit). The results of a survey of 279 IT workers show that personality traits (operationalized by the Five Factor Model) significantly differ across exploitative and explorative work environments. Furthermore, the data suggests that the relationship between extraversion, conscientiousness and openness to experience on P-J fit is moderated by the level of ambidexterity. Collapse

Abstract: While digital leadership competencies have been recognized as key to succeed with digital transformation, there is a lack of a common understanding about what constitutes such competencies specifically in the public sector-a sector that faces particular challenges with digitally transforming. This structured literature review adds to the existing body of knowledge on digital leadership by synthesizing what is known about the required competencies of digital leaders in the public sector. Based on 25 relevant publications from different databases and disciplines, we identified 44 sub-competencies classified into seven categories of key competencies. In addition, several measures for digital leadership skill development and recruitment could be identified that help building these competencies. While researchers can use our findings to advance knowledge in this research area, practitioners in the public sector can apply our framework to assess their leadership competencies for the digital transformation. Abstract: Effective leadership is crucial for developing and sustaining ambidexterity, which involves engaging in both exploratory and exploitative activities. Empowering leadership behaviors, which foster trust and discipline to create engaged employees, have been identified as facilitators of contextual ambidexterity. However, there is still a lack of understanding of how individual outcomes are affected by these leadership styles in ambidextrous information technology (IT) work environments. This study investigates the impact of empowering leadership on job satisfaction among IT workers and whether the level of individual ambidexterity moderates this relationship. Analyzing survey data from 553 IT workers, we find a positive direct effect of empowering leadership on job satisfaction and, contrary to our hypothesis, a negative moderating effect of individual ambidexterity. Our study contributes to the leadership and ambidexterity literatures in Information Systems by highlighting the need for nuanced approaches to leadership in ambidextrous IT organizations. Collapse

Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) transits from merely adopted technology to fueling everyday decision-making systems from medication to navigation. With this combination of AI in decision-making systems (ADMS), the present study explores how text-based users' data from social media helps organize the users' perspectives of ADMS? To investigate our research questions, we used a framework consisting of three phases, exploratory, confirmatory, and validatory. We applied hierarchy clustering and topic modeling in the exploratory study, hypothesis building, and empirical analysis during the confirmatory study and support vector machine (SVM) in the validatory study. Our findings suggest that users are primarily concerned about the risk involved in using ADMS. Factors like accountability, self-efficacy, knowledge of ADMS individuals' attitudes towards ADMS impact the perception of ADMS among individuals. This study's theoretical and practical implications have great scope as ADMS is still in its elementary stage. Collapse

Abstract: Latest research has shown that one challenge for the development and implementation of Industrial AI-based services is uncertainty of roles and responsibilities. To address this challenge, we developed a generic role model for the systematic development of AI-based services in manufacturing. The role model describes which roles are necessary within the development process of an Industrial AI-based service. Thereby, a distinction is made whether the roles are assigned to the "core team", the "extended team" or participate in "supporting roles". Furthermore, the model shows whether the roles are involved in the "Ideation" phase, the "Requirements and design" phase, the "Test" phase or the "Implementation and roll-out" phase. Based on desktop research, semi-structured interviews and expert workshops we identified 22 roles that are relevant to the development and implementation of Industrial AI-based services. Collapse

Abstract: Online reviews have a significant impact on consumers' purchasing decisions. Many researchers have studied the relationship between review usefulness based on various factors related to online review, but existing studies have focused only on the linear relationship between variables methodologically. Therefore, this study examines the usefulness of online reviews from a configurational perspective derived from the complex interactions between elements, and aims to identify how these configurations differ according to product types. This study developed a conceptual model by combining HSM and ELM based on the theoretical discussion on the information processing and analyzed 7,316 cases collected from Amazon.com using fsQCA. As a result, three configurations affecting online usefulness were derived from search goods and four from experience goods. In short, consumers consume reviews through the complex interaction of various factors related to reviews, and the factors affecting the usefulness of search goods and experience goods are different. Abstract: This study contributes to the information systems literature on mobile health interventions and omnichannel management by examining the relative effectiveness of mobile and offline channels in facilitating personal weight management. Drawing on the social cognitive theory of self-regulation, our empirical analysis utilizes a system generalized method of moments approach applied to panel data on customers enrolled in a weight loss program that delivers services through multiple channels, including a mobile app and offline office visits. Our results show that the use of the mobile app is positively associated with weight management by both free and paid users. For paid users, who have access to the mobile app and office visits, usage of both channels is associated with increased short-term weight loss. Furthermore, the two channels function as substitutes for one another, with users able to compensate for infrequent offline store visits through more intense mobile app usage. In the long term, however, only mobile app usage (and not offline store visits) contributes to the sustainability of weight loss, as reflected in reduced weight variability and lower overall failure rate. Qualitative evidence gleaned from interviews with actual customers substantiated the self-regulation mechanism enabled by mobile app usage. Additional empirical analyses further revealed that frequency and granularity of mobile app usage are positively associated with weight loss. We also found that individuals exposed to low performance pressure benefit more fully from mobile app usage. The results are robust to endogeneity concerns and alternative measures of the key variables. Overall, our analysis sheds light on the important role of a self-regulatory mobile app in a multichannel setting of personal weight management, as compared with the external influence stemming from human experts in offline channels, with useful implications for research and practice.
