Abstract: Digital technologies are widely used across the healthcare industry to provide a variety of services. Recently, chatbots, called digital mental health interventions (DMHIs), are increasingly used to provide mental health services to people in need. Given the shortage of mental health professionals needed to provide mental healthcare services, mental health chatbots are increasingly applied to augment these services. Studies indicate multiple response failures in these chatbots, which can lead to discontinuance of use by people in need. However, the nature of response failure and its effect on the discontinuance of mental health chatbots remain understudied. We plan to study this effect and utilize expectation disconfirmation theory and cognitive dissonance theory to guide the development of our propositions that investigate the impact of satisfaction, ease of use, and usefulness on the use discontinuance of mental health chatbots. Abstract: Despite technological development and individuals using technologies more than ever, their engagement in e-participation initiatives remains low. A close assessment indicates that simply setting up platforms for e-participation does not inevitably result in online civic engagement. Addressing this gap, this study goes beyond technological factors to consider the citizen-government fit to influence online civic engagement. Using the theoretical lens of person-organization fit, self-efficacy, and the social influence theory, this study argues that (1) the congruence between citizens and their government (i.e., C-G fit) will positively impact online civic engagement and (2) this relationship will be mediated by citizens' commitment and moderated by e-participation-specific self-efficacy and social networking site usage. Data was collected from six interviews and 14 survey responses as the preliminary study. The data showed an initial indication in support of the research hypotheses. Abstract: Physical retail faces the challenge of remaining attractive to customers in the age of e-commerce. In-store navigation systems are one way to mitigate this issue. These software systems allow customers to be navigated through the retail store. We derive design requirements (DRs) for in-store navigation systems based on eight interviews with customers and employees of furniture stores. We illustrate the implementation of the DRs in a conceptual prototype designed with the platform "Hololink." Initial evaluation results (n = 20) show that customers perceive such a solution for physical retail as mainly positive. Abstract: The idea of controlling technology with your thoughts only is becoming reality with the emergence of consumer-grade Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI). Understanding how regular users perceive this innovative way of controlling their devices is crucial, as it offers a more seamless and intuitive method of interacting with technology. Despite the improving capabilities and smaller form factor of BCI, its potential usage by non-medical users remains largely unexplored. In this research, we address this gap in a mixedmethods approach. In (n=26) qualitative interviews we explore users' perception of BCI technology and identify its impact on users' attitudinal and behavioral outcomes. Our findings reveal that users consider their perception as a cyborg and the device's functionality when deciding on their intention to interact with BCI, dependent whether BCI used for individual or organizational interaction. We employ a pre-study (n=189) and multiple experimental studies to empirically triangulate and quantify findings from qualitative interviews. Collapse

Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic instigated the rapid shift to remote work and virtual interactions, constituting a new normal of professional interaction over information and communication technologies (ICT), such as videoconferencing platforms, email, and mobile devices. While ICT may provide many benefits for remote work, such as flexibility, reductions in travel time, and geographical interaction, ICT may also contribute to increases in job strain, reductions in social interactions, and the decline of mental health. While reliance on ICT for remote work interactions is becoming the new normal of organizational activity, scholarly appreciation of the stages in which employees, particularly educators, enact interactions over ICT is limited. Further, the intensity of the pandemic is unlike anything management scholars have studied before, and previous research into ICT use offers little insight into how ICT behaviors evolve over time. Our research explores how educators enact ICT interactions with students throughout the first two waves of the COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted 24 open-ended interviews with educators to learn about their experiences shifting to ICT for virtual classes. We found that ICT interactions between educators and students are enacted through two sequential, interrelated stages: divergent interaction behaviors and convergent interaction behaviors, with each stage corresponding to the first and second waves of the pandemic. We delineate the phases within each enacting stage of ICT interaction and conjecture that future use of ICT may include iterative cycles of divergent and convergent interaction behaviors, particularly if educators explore how to leverage ICT in more creative ways. Our research presents a theorization of ICT interaction as an increasingly prevalent form of IT-enabled educational interactions and communication. We provide insight into how educators successfully shifted to ICT use for remote work, and we offer implications for the facilitation of hybrid work arrangements in educational settings using ICT. Abstract: Real-time assessment of users' cognitive states has practical importance, allowing organizations to infer user behaviors. Realizing its importance, prior studies – specifically those using mouse cursor movements – have applied various theories to answer a similar question, i.e., how does a high cognitive load influence the users' device usage behavior? While numerous activities can increase cognitive load, we argue that the mechanisms behind how humans process information can more holistically be explained using Dual Process Theory (DPT) (i.e., when cognitive load is either low or high) and can be applied under a broad range of usage contexts. Using a within-participant experiment and a simple typing task, we demonstrate that DPT is robust to work by examining DPT and mouse cursor movements. Specifically, users' typing speed and task execution are significantly slower when engaged in the task (System 2) and significantly faster when completing the task with lower cognitive effort and engagement (System 1). Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the nature of work and reshaping labor markets. Viewing labor as a bundle of skills, recent research has analyzed AI skills and offered important insights about the impacts of AI on labor markets. We add to this ongoing discourse and argue that taking a dynamic skill-based approach to measurement is critical: just like the development of AI is emergent and ever-evolving, so are AI skills. Taking stock of the literature, we show that existing studies tend to take a static approach to measuring AI skills, which fails to fully reflect the dynamic phenomenon of AI skills and could cause measurement errors. We propose a dynamic co-occurrence method and demonstrate that it performs better than the extant static methods, which can cause severe Type I and II errors, omit emerging AI skills, and temporally over-and underestimate the demands for AI skills and jobs. Abstract: We examine investor behavior on social media platforms related to the GameStop (GME) short squeeze in early 2021. Individual investors stimulated the stock market via Reddit social posts in the presence of institutional investors who bet against GME’s success as short sellers. We analyzed r/WallStreetBets subreddit posts related to GME’s trading patterns. We performed text-based sentiment analysis and compared the social informedness of posting users for GME trading on two social media platforms. The short squeeze occurred due to coordinated trading by individual investors, who discussed trading strategies on the platforms and drove collective social informedness-based trading behavior. Our findings suggest that the valence and number of submissions influenced GME’s intraday transaction volumes and precursors for irrational trading behavior patterns to have emerged. We provide a theoretical interpretation of what occurred and call for tighter monitoring of social news platforms. We also encourage effort to create an in-depth understanding of the observed patterns and the linkages between them and the larger equity markets. Collapse
