Abstract: The COVID-19 crisis represented an unprecedented test to organizations with respect to its systemic severity and the unique policy response of governments around the world. Policies to curb the pandemic's spread resulted in severe cratering of demand and diverse supply disruptions to firms. Research demonstrates significant heterogeneity in the impacts of the pandemic and ensuing lockdowns on firm performance due to diverse firm characteristics. Our study advances this body of work by assessing the moderating impact of a firm's pre-existing Information Technology (IT) endowment on changes in market and operational performance caused by the pandemic. Impacts of specific classes of IT investments, analyses of the social media activity of the firm, and textual analyses of news articles pertaining to the firm provide insights into underlying mechanisms. More generally, our results provide insights into the resilience accorded by IT in the face of exogenous disasters. Collapse

Abstract: Product Recommendation Strategy and Seller-Biased Recommendations We now segue from bundling economics to the theory of strategic product recommendation, and the nuances that arise when a product or service provider rethinks its approach about how to push a more profitable product to consumers, who exhibit heterogeneity with respect to their fit with it. The optimal strategy depends both on the search cost faced by consumers as well as the accuracy of information the seller possesses about consumer preferences. Using a recommendation system, for example, a seller can nudge potential consumers to a high-margin product, instead of simply recommending the product that would have offered them the highest utility [[28]]. In a two-channel scenario, a larger bundle discount entices more consumers to buy both channels but also results in a higher lost revenue as consumers who would have purchased both in any case can now do so at a lower price. Abstract: The Covid 19 pandemic revealed the need for Public Health Agencies to mature digitally. To help those agencies with their digitalization endeavor, a public health agency maturity model (PHAMM) has been developed, evaluated, and employed by 366 institutions to determine their digital maturity and to prioritize actions within digitalization projects. This paper discusses the digital maturity of German public health institutions and derives first insights into components spanning the PHAMM dimensions. Public health agencies can use these components to leverage their digital maturity in future digitalization projects. Implications are discussed for how digitalization projects with an enhanced impact can be defined and for future maturity modeling research. Collapse

Abstract: The fallout of the 2020 US presidential election has left a legacy of distrust in election systems in some subsets of the population. It is critical to the continued success of the US democratic system to analyze the mechanics of how the electorate forms a basis of trust that leads to their intention to participate in democracy. If enough people reject the process that supports democracy, this can result in instability and chaos in social systems. This study analyzes these constructs through the lens of the Socio-Technical Model (STM) (Bostrom and Heinen, 1977). This lens facilitated the creation of a new Election Security Model (ESM) and survey instrument. This survey instrument was validated in a pilot study. A subsequent large-scale study of the entire US population was then carried out. The findings showed the STM precursors were strongly correlated to trust. Surprisingly, trust was only weakly correlated to intention to use the system. Collapse

Abstract: Platform ecosystems are characterized by knowledge boundaries that arise between the platform owner and third-party developers. Although major platform owners such as Microsoft and SAP nurture sponsored online communities to overcome knowledge boundaries in their ecosystem, the peculiarities of such communities are yet to be examined. Drawing upon the lead user and media richness theory, we investigate how different user roles and media types influence the value of a knowledge contribution in such communities. Analyzing one million answers from the SAP Community, we uncovered that both lead users and sponsor representatives are more likely to provide valuable knowledge contributions compared to normal users. Moreover, we show that attachments, code snippets, and links significantly enhance the value of a knowledge contribution. Surprisingly, we find a strong negative moderation effect of code snippets on the contributions of sponsor representatives but a strong positive moderation effect on the contributions of lead users. Abstract: The elicitation of requirements is central for the development of successful software products. While traditional requirement elicitation techniques such as user interviews are highly labor-intensive, data-driven elicitation techniques promise enhanced scalability through the exploitation of new data sources like app store reviews or social media posts. For enterprise software vendors, requirements elicitation remains challenging because app store reviews are scarce and vendors have no direct access to users. Against this background, we investigate whether enterprise software vendors can elicit requirements from their sponsored developer communities through data-driven techniques. Following the design science methodology, we collected data from the SAP Community and developed a supervised machine learning classifier, which automatically detects feature requests of third-party developers. Based on a manually labeled data set of 1,500 questions, our classifier reached a high accuracy of 0.819. Our findings reveal that supervised machine learning models are an effective means for the identification of feature requests. Collapse

Abstract: Today, value is created by making use of technologies based on artificial intelligence (AI) in almost all parts of the value chain. Business students need to acquire AI competencies to unleash the full potential of AI in organisations. Therefore, institutions of higher education need to teach AI to business students. The present research aims to identify which AI-related competencies are relevant for business graduates and which courses exist to teach respective skills. To this end, we firstly provide a comprehensive overview of the AI competence demand in today's business world by means of a literature review and a qualitative study. Secondly, we conduct a quantitative study to analyse the curricula of leading universities and online platforms providing AI teaching. Abstract: As software-intensive systems continue to grow in scale and complexity the techniques that we have used to design and analyze them in the past no longer suffice. In this paper we look at examples of existing ultra-large-scale systems—systems of enormous size and complexity. We examine instances of such systems that have arisen spontaneously in nature and those that have been human-constructed. We distill from these example systems the design primitives that underlie them. We capture these design primitives as a set of tactics— fundamental architectural building-blocks—and argue that to efficiently build and analyze such systems in the future we should strongly consider employing such building-blocks.
