Abstract: Computation is critical to social development for information processing in today's digital world. Computational Thinking (CT), the underlying cognitive functioning of designing computation, has been under heated discussion. However, the conceptualization of CT and its measurements still require improvement when discussing CT as a competence for problem-solving. This study first conceptualizes CT in problemsolving context by identifying the framework of competence based on a tripartite view and applying it to clarify that CT competence consists of CT knowledge, skills, and attitudes. It then aims to develop a self-reported scale for complementing CT measurements based on the tripartite view. This work contributes to CT theories and measures through a more precise conceptual framework and an instrument developed based on it. It enriches IS studies by a new perspective that humans form their cognitive process for problem-solving under digital technologies, especially computational tools. Collapse

Abstract: Building on the Heuristic-Systematic model, we use a survey and two eye-tracking experiments to investigate consumers’ perceived usefulness of overall and individual text-based reviews (OTRs vs. ITRs) for search vs. experience products, and the information processing features. Results indicate that OTRs show higher usefulness than ITRs, regardless of product type. ITRs are perceived to be more useful for experience products than for search products. Furthermore, two eye-tracking studies confirm these results from a physiological standpoint and reveal the attentional allocation during information processing. OTRs affect subjects’ processing of ITRs infor­ mation differently in purchase search and experience products. Collapse

Abstract: The integration of new technologies as well as the need to increase customer satisfaction and reduce costs require companies to continuously analyze and improve their business processes. Hence, Business Process Improvement (BPI) ranks high on the agenda of many companies. However, existing methods like Six Sigma are often perceived as overly complex for projects with a limited scope. Therefore, more and more companies focus on the application of a few selected BPI techniques only, which are logically arranged in the form of "roadmaps" to tackle process weaknesses. Against this backdrop, the concept of "tool-supported situational roadmap development for BPI" along with a corresponding prototype are introduced. The approach builds on conceptual modeling and is technically realized by means of a metamodeling platform. Accordingly, the research offers practitioners a solution to systematically create project-specific roadmaps for BPI to improve process performance. Collapse

Abstract: The present study is an attempt to measure the technology readiness (TR) and learning goal orientation (LGO) of Indian students pursuing Master of Business Administration (MBA) towards e-learning through an online survey of 201 students. This research proposes an integrated model that combines the TR dimensions (innovativeness, optimism, insecurity, and discomfort), LGO and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The model was tested using the PLS-SEM technique. The results indicated that the model is robust with satisfactory explanatory power. The findings revealed that the positive (innovativeness and optimism) and negative (insecurity and discomfort) personality traits of TR had the expected direction of relationships. Further, LGO had a significant impact on PEOU, PU, INT, and TASK-PERF. In line with the TAM model, the influence of PEOU and PU on INT, and PEOU on PU was positive and significant. The academic and practical implications of these results have been discussed in the paper. Collapse

Abstract: Digital technologies and their uptake in society have advanced more rapidly than any innovation in history. However, research into how the public sector uses digital innovation has been slow to develop. Government has an essential role to play in sustainability by setting and enforcing policies around subjects such as pollution and carbon taxes, making digital innovation in government critical for digital sustainability. Further, the public sector's values and priorities differ from those of the private sector, which confounds simple comparisons in areas such as digital ways of working and efficiency drivers. This paper draws on the public management literature and uses an exploratory and interpretive field study of a leading digital government. The research identifies six barriers to digital innovation within the New South Wales government, a world-leader in digital integration. The barriers are: varying digital maturity, nondigital mindset, slow mobilization, service-based silos, premature solutioning, and failure to align investment in digital innovation with broader government priorities. The paper identifies initiatives enabling world-class digital innovation and driving effective change. These enablers are structural service integration, ecosystem engagement, technology modernization, customer-centric strategies and processes, and agility in management. This paper finds that digital capability gaps and core rigidities interact requiring a comprehensive approach to realize the significant benefits offered to citizens and the environment. Collapse

Abstract: Work identity deals with self-definition in work activities and memberships which massively impact how employees react to digitalization. In the face of the changing world of work, there is increasing scholarly interest in work identity represented in numerous articles. Research produces several essential insights but appears fragmented in diverse conceptualizations and the investigation of multiple dimensions of work identity. Especially contributions in IS use a ‘professional identity’ conceptualization, which is fragmented and varies in definition clarity. We synthesize extant literature and offer a comprehensive work identity conceptualization to provide future research with orientation. The proposed conceptualization enables researchers to mutually investigate individuals based on their work-based self-identity, role identity, and social identities. Last, we present and discuss a research agenda that contributes to utilizing work identity as an analytical tool for digitalizing work. Collapse

Abstract: We propose that female-founded ventures receive a lower amount of employee labor for equal pay because employees are more likely to decline requests for additional labor by female founders. First, using longitudinal matched employer-employee data covering all founders of new ventures with personnel in Portugal between 2002 and 2012, we confirm that full-time employees contribute fewer regular hours and less overtime work to female-founded firms. Second, using a series of online experiments, we show that this variation in employee labor across female and male-founded firms is partly motivated by a difference in the employee’s expectations of work demands. Specifically, employees perceive female founders’ requests for additional labor to be unfair and more difficult than expected, and both these perceptions explain the lower amount of employee labor supplied in female-founded ventures. Overall, our findings uncover a novel mechanism that helps explain the existence of a gender gap in entrepreneurship beyond the entry stage. Abstract: Digital transformation is often described as organizational change that is simultaneously triggered and enabled by digital technologies. As with other types of organizational transformation, overcoming organizational inertia lies at the heart of digital transformation. However, our understanding of the specific processes employed by incumbent firms to overcome organizational inertia in digital transformation is currently limited. In this paper, we draw on the case study of AsiaBank, a large traditional bank in Asia, to explore the microfoundations of how incumbent firms tackle different types of inertia as they embark on a digital transformation journey. We identify four key digital transformation processes-i.e., embracing the consumerization of digital technologies, diffusing and appropriating digital business practices, enabling distributed organizing, and revamping IT architecture-that combine to reduce negative psychology, sociocognitive, sociotechnical, political, and economic inertia in digital transformation. Our findings expand the extant view on the role of agency in overcoming organizational inertia and contribute to the literature at the intersection of digital innovation and transformation. Collapse

Abstract: The looming AI Act puts significant pressure on organizations to develop safe and reliable AI. First, we analyze 975 AI incidents to provide an overview of the actors involved in identifying primary AI failures. Second, using institutional theory and based on over two years of observation of more than 400 actors, we identify four strategies (circumvent, comply, compromise, and control) and exemplary response practices (relabel, redefine, balance, and predefine) for how firms respond to institutional pressures from AI regulation. We thereby extend the institutional theory perspective on AI regulation. Using our longitudinal multi-actor perspective, we develop the 4C-Framework for how organizations actively respond to AI regulation. Moreover, we demonstrate how this framework can be applied to impending AI regulation, including strategies for engaging with regulators, exploring opportunities for collaboration, and dealing with the spread of misinformation. Overall, this paper provides a comprehensive approach for companies to proactively shape AI regulation. Collapse
