Abstract: This study delves into the potential influence of Algorithmic Personnel Management (APM)-based systems on optimizing personnel management (PM) processes and their subsequent impact on personnel slack. Employing a multi-case study analysis, we probe the capabilities afforded by APM-based systems, with a keen focus on their potential effects on PM processes, personnel slack, and organizational outcomes. Our exploration intimates the possibility of APM-based systems augmenting talent acquisition, talent management, and performance management processes, aligning employee competencies with organizational opportunities, and fostering adaptability amidst tumultuous business landscapes. Furthermore, the study conjectures the metamorphosis of conventional personnel managerial roles within the APM-based systems context, accentuating the necessity for personnel managers to acclimate to strategic and analytical duties. This research endeavors to enrich the academic discourse on algorithmic personnel management, workforce optimization, and organizational outcomes, proffering pragmatic implications for organizations contemplating APMbased systems implementation and shedding light on prospective trajectories for future inquiries. Abstract: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer in terms of the number of cases and deaths in men and women in the USA. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the CRC screening compliance rate remains low in the United States. It is even more concerning that the number of cases and deaths due to CRC is increasing in the younger population, for which there is no guideline to get colonoscopy screening. In this paper, we develop a novel network-based model to identify patients under 50 years of age having a high risk of CRC, particularly those who do not have a family history. Our model can help predict which patients are at risk of developing colorectal cancer to aid the practicing primary care physician and gastroenterologist to triage pa­ tients into meaningful risk groups to provide accelerated diagnostic steps and care to these patients. The model uses our proposed variables created through comorbidity network matrices obtained from CRC and non-CRC patients as inputs. We used the electronic medical records of thousands of CRC and non-CRC patients to develop and validate the models. Our model for younger patients correctly predicted 73.2% of the patients with future diagnoses with an area under the ROC curve of 0.81. At the 50% sensitivity, the false positive rate was 11.5%. The performance of our model is the highest in the current state-of-the-art. Our proposed variables quantifying the interactions between multiple diseases can also be adapted in future predictions of other diseases in a patient. Collapse

Abstract: Strategic Agility allows organizations to rapidly respond to market movements and integrate these opportunities into their organization. Open Strategy, utilizing frameworks such as Objectives and Key Results, increases Strategic Agility by enhancing transparency and inclusiveness in strategy development and execution. However, leaders lack effective digital tools to rapidly align organizations at scale and track progress, especially when creating Strategic Agility. To address this, Enterprise Strategy SaaS Platforms (Strategy SaaS), a new breed of strategy software, is being developed to facilitate Digital-Enabled Strategic Agility (DESA). This research explores the enablers of Strategy SaaS adoption and its impact on DESA through two manufacturing cases using Integrated Affordance Theory. Results indicate Strategy SaaS enables organizations to sense, decide, coordinate, and act on their Open Strategy initiatives more effectively. However, it also requires additional enablers due to the business-led nature of implementation. The research contributes a tangible action plan for leaders to increase DESA. Collapse

Abstract: Prior studies have claimed that, with evolving technologies, continuity processes in Development and Operations (DevOps) needs to be re-evaluated consistently. In this context, this study examines a relatively new continuity process --continuous software security. With regulatory compliance and ubiquitous cyberattacks, it becomes increasingly important to integrate security into DevOps. Presently, DevOps developers assume the role of systems operators and software developers to facilitate Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD). Assuming multiple roles involves role transitioning that requires developers to psychologically disengage from their current role and engage in another. Gradually, this may cause mental exhaustion. Therefore, implementing continuous security may add more complexity to DevOps, instigating more stress to software developers. Given this concern, we draw on Role Transition Theory and Cognitive Load Theory to examine whether integrating security into DevOps would aggravate developers' job burnout, which would eventually undermine continuous security practices. Abstract: The implementation of information systems (IS) is a complex process that requires appropriate governance to ensure that the technical capabilities of the new IS align with organizational goals. However, existing literature lacks insight into how this alignment occurs when IS are designed as openended, weakly structured systems that offer generic functions, rather than for a singular purpose. To address this gap, this study examines the implementation of a low-code AI platform in eight large companies and the governance practices they employed to align the system's capabilities with their organizational goals. The findings highlight the importance of balanced governance practices that support and constrain the generative capacity of weakly structured IS, while enabling continuous interdependent development of organizational and technical capabilities throughout implementation. This study contributes to IS literature by responding to calls to examine challenges of implementing weakly structured IS and offering practical recommendations for implementation teams and system vendors. Abstract: Content creation costs pose a threat for online marketplaces aiming to attract new users. In response, platform managers devise new policies to subsidize these costs for content creators. In this study, we analyze data from a leading NFT marketplace to examine the impact of a lazy minting policy, which enables content creation without upfront fees, on created content, and engagement with that content. On the creation side, we observe a volume-effort trade-off, with creators producing more work for the market but exerting less effort during creation. On the engagement side, we note a decrease in engagement, particularly affecting creators with higher engagement levels prior to the policy change. We explore the mechanism driving this reduction and find that effort and attention play crucial roles, while a larger follower count does not shield creators from decreased engagement. Finally, we discuss our contributions to the literature and its implications for platform managers. Collapse

Abstract: We investigate the role of frictions in determining the efficiency and bidding behavior in a generalized second-price auction—the most preferred mechanism for sponsored-search advertisements. In particular, we take a twofold approach of Q-learning–based computational simulations in conjunction with human-subject experiments. We find that the lower valued advertisers (who do not win the auction) exhibit highly exploratory behavior. Moreover, we find the presence of market frictions moderates this phenomenon and results in higher allocative efficiency. These results have implications for policymakers and auction-platform managers in designing incentives for more efficient auctions. Abstract: Social media platforms and the forms of vernacular expression they support invite citizens to emotionally react to political content. This study focuses on the affective networks of emoji use in the Facebook comment threads on 18 politicians' public pages before the Finnish 2019 parliamentary elections. We aim to provide a more systematic study of the affective practices emerging from the use of emojis in specific contexts of online communication, such as in relation to particular political actors. We analyze the data using computational methods and network analysis and complement these methods with qualitative analysis. The results indicate that emojis are used to connect with ideological coalitions across the parties and to reinforce connections with political actors. Particular emojis become distinctive emotional-political signifiers whose connotations have departed from their original denotations and are formed and shared in specific communities in relation to specific political candidates and parties. Abstract: While data availability and access used to be a major challenge for information systems research, the growth and ease of access to large datasets and data analysis tools has increased interest to use such resources for publishing. Such publications, however, seem to offer weak theoretical contributions. While big data-driven studies increasingly gain popularity, they rarely introspect why a phenomenon is better explained by a theory and limit the analysis to data descriptive by mining and visualizing large volumes of big data. We address this pressing need and provide directions to move towards theory building with Big Data. We differentiate based on inductive and deductive approaches and provide guidelines how may undertake steps for theory building.
