Abstract: The online referral reward program (ORRP) is a social marketing method by which firms reward existing users and encourage them to recommend products or services to their friends. Prior research has primarily focused on the impact of ORRP design on users' participation, however, the role of individuals' characteristics is unexplored. Based on regulatory focus theory and self-efficacy theory, this research proposes and investigates the effect of users' regulatory focus (promotion-focused vs. prevention-focused) on their referral intention and explores its mechanism and boundary condition. The results of three experiments show that compared to prevention-focused users, promotion-focused users have higher selfefficacy to complete the referral task; and thus, have higher referral intention. This effect will be attenuated when the tie strength between inviters and invitees is strong. The findings not only contribute to the research on ORRP and regulatory focus but also provide guidance for firms to optimize ORRPs. Collapse

Abstract: A man-made machine-reading comprehension (MRC) dataset is necessary to train the answer extraction part of existing Question Answering (QA) systems. However, a high-quality and well-structured dataset with questionparagraph-answer pairs is not usually found in the real world. Furthermore, updating or building an MRC dataset is a challenging and costly affair. To address these shortcomings, we propose a QA system that uses a large-scale English Community Question Answering (CQA) dataset (i.e., Stack Exchange) composed of 3,081,834 questionanswer pairs. The QA system adopts a classifier-retriever-summarizer structure design. The question classifier and the answer retriever part are based on a Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) Natural Language Processing (NLP) model by Google, and the summarizer part introduces a deep learning-based Text-to-Text Transfer Transformer (T5) model to summarize the long answers. We instantiated the proposed QA system with 140 topics from the CQA dataset (including topics such as biology, law, politics, etc.) and conducted human and automatic evaluations. Our system presented encouraging results, considering that it provides highquality answers to the questions in the test set and satisfied the requirements to develop a QA system without MRC datasets. Our results show the potential of building automatic and high-performance QA systems without being limited by man-made datasets, a significant step forward in the research of open-domain or specificdomain QA systems. Abstract: The popularity and potential of FinTech for generating business value has been highlighted in an evolving number of studies. Nevertheless, there is still ambiguity on the success of such disruptive technologies. To address this gap, this paper draws on a case study of an IT vendor in Japan. We interview key stakeholders involved in the case project to (i) explore the success factors of FinTech applications adopted by non-financial organisations, (ii) illustrate the applicability of the multi-dimensional project success framework in FinTech projects, and (iii) highlight the importance of the FinTech Project Management field that warrants further investigation. We contribute to the IT Project Management field, where we extend the theoretical background with aspects of FinTech adoption and success. We also inform practice in terms of lessons for managers to improve the existing processes and assist their organisations in business transformational initiatives using FinTech. Collapse

Abstract: Gamified training is often used to facilitate the adoption of complex information systems in organizations. However, little research has focused on the factors that influence the effective use of gamified training. This study investigates the determinants of effective use of the enterprise resource planning simulation game, ERPsim. The study proposes that ERPsim affordances, such as collaboration and competition, affect coping responses, including task-oriented, emotion-oriented, and avoidance, which in turn impact the effective use of the game. The data were collected from 255 graduate students enrolled in an ERP course at a public university in the United States. The results show that collaboration affordance significantly affects all three coping responses, while competition affordance only affects task-oriented coping. Additionally, task-, and emotion-oriented coping are found to influence the effective use of ERPsim, but avoidance coping does not. The study highlights the importance of affordances and coping responses in gamified training design and implementation towards effective use. Collapse

Abstract: Information technology (IT) security research has investigated how users perceive and address IT security threats differently based on their cultural backgrounds and espoused cultural values. We extend prior research, grounded in Protection Motivation Theory (Rogers 1975), that has examined how espoused cultural values influence the relationship between perceived coping efficacy and coping behaviors. Our research model includes two infrequently studied cultural dimensions: indulgence vs. restraint (Hofstede 2022) and survival vs. self-expression (Inglehart-Welzel 2005). The model will be tested using survey data from mid-level managers in the US and Pakistan. The study offers a more nuanced understanding of the impact of cultural factors on the adoption and implementation of IT security measures in diverse organizational contexts. It further contributes to practice by offering guidance to organizations who must design security training and other intervention strategies to modify employee security behaviors. Collapse

Abstract: Chronic diseases have been declared an invisible epidemic by the World Health Organization (WHO, 2005). Over the past fifty years, the prevalence of chronic conditions has increased, leading to the disease burden caused by cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and mental and substance use disorders (DOH, 2021). Chronic patients need to reimagine how they will empower themselves to effectively manage and monitor their health and wellbeing in a COVID-19 era when frequent in-person health care visits will no longer be feasible. In this study, we propose the dimensions for the design of a mobile-based application that will aid chronic patients and end-users in self-managing and monitoring their health during the pandemic era. Based on an empirical investigation involving pharmacists and researchers, we designed and developed a prototype capable of empowering chronic patients. This study particularly focuses on how technological interventions can help chronic patients self-manage and monitor their health and well-being related to COVID-19 where the user expectations are met with less attrition rates. Abstract: Physical and mental health are both integral to healthy living and ageing, and a causalcum-symbiotic relationship has been observed between the two. Physical and cognitive activities such as exercise and board games are known to promote healthy ageing. In this regard, highly engaging lightboard games are known to improve hand-eye coordination, reflexes, and motor skills for individuals. Immersivity of virtual reality games can transform mundane and repetitive exercise routines into stimulating experiences, and they can be utilized by users to improve physical and cognitive performance from the comfort of their homes. In this study, we adopt design science framework to design, develop and evaluate a VR BATAK lightboard game to improve physical reaction, handeye coordination, visual memory and cognitive processing. Based on the findings from evaluation over three phases, we propose three design principles related to accessibility, sensory cueing and cognitive loading, as theoretical and practical contributions of this study. Abstract: It is estimated that one out of seven health insurance claims is rejected in the US; hospitals across the country lose approximately $262 billion annually due to denied claims. This widespread problem causes huge cash-flow issues and overburdens patients. Thus, preventing claim denials before claims are submitted to insurers improves profitability, accelerates the revenue cycle, and supports patients’ wellbeing. This study utilizes Design Science Research (DSR) paradigm and develops a Responsible Artificial Intelligence (RAI) solution helping hospital administrators identify potentially denied claims. Guided by five principles, this framework utilizes six AI algorithms – classified as white-box and glass-box – and employs cross-validation to tune hyperparameters and determine the best model. The results show that a white-box algorithm (AdaBoost) model yields an AUC rate of 0.83, outperforming all other models. This research’s primary implications are to (1) help providers reduce operational costs and increase the efficiency of insurance claim processes (2) help patients focus on their recovery instead of dealing with appealing claims. Abstract: Social media platforms are increasingly used during disasters. In the United States, users often consider these platforms to be reliable news sources and they believe first responders will see what they publicly post. While having ways to request help during disasters might save lives, this information is difficult to find because non-relevant content on social media completely overshadows content reflective of who needs help. To resolve this issue, we develop a framework for classifying hurricane-related images that have been human-annotated. Our approach uses transfer learning and classifies each image using the VGG-16 convolutional neural network and multi-layer perceptron classifiers according to the urgency, relevance, and time period, in addition to the presence of damage and relief motifs. We find that our framework not only successfully functions as an accurate method for hurricane-related image classification but also that real-time classification of social media images using a small training set is possible.
