Abstract: Automotive insurance is undergoing digital transformation that exploits new forms of big data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems. Geo-spatial data from GPS and telematics systems enables innovative risk modelling to evaluate driver behaviour and leads to the creation of new insurance services and novel insurance business models. A research framework is proposed to analyse AI-enabled business models and applied to a detailed case analysis of behavioural insurance in HUK-COBURG. The results illustrate the application of geo-spatial data in an insurance context and demonstrate the utility of the research framework to analyse new AI-enabled business models. The analysis identifies important implementation issues and shows that the strategic logic, regulatory and ethical context are important elements of business models. The empirical analysis reveals the strategic properties and effects of the data flywheel concept, which has general applicability. The theory framework and empirical results have important implications for other markets and theoretical contexts. Collapse

Abstract: Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems evolve in response to new data by using adaptive algorithms. The insurance industry is data intensive, and dynamic. It is therefore particularly suitable for AI implementation. An innovation triangle framework is proposed that consists of product, process and value chain innovation. A comparison of leading incumbent insurance firms with new entrants illustrates significant competitive differences. The incumbents apply AI to defend their market positions by enhancing existing strengths and capabilities across the three innovation types. The new entrants exploit AI technology to build new products with innovative features that emphasise customer value and user experience. The innovation triangle is a useful managerial tool to analyse the nature and extent of innovation in insurance and can be used to evaluate and plan AI strategies by mapping existing AI initiatives to specific types of innovation and identifying innovation objectives and opportunities. Abstract: The purpose of this study is to explore retired/retiring esports players’ experience of transitioning out of esports. To provide in-depth insights into esports players’ transition experiences that may contribute to young players being better prepared for their own transitions, a qualitative approach was applied and four retired professional esports players in South Korea were interviewed. Thematic analysis was applied, and four themes were identified: Pressure and Uncertainty; Lack of Pre-Retirement Planning; Need for Mentorship; Need for Realism about Talent. The findings highlight that esports players experience pressure and struggle with job/finance insecurity during their careers, and that this contributes significantly to their retirement decisions. Lack of pre-retirement planning causes them to be ill-prepared for their life after esports. The study provides empirical evidence which should encourage the industry and stakeholders to establish structured systems to support esports players’ transitions out of esports. Collapse

Abstract: Knowledge management (KM) has emerged as an operational and strategic organisational tool. However, the influence of recent cyber regulations (CR) and security policies (SP) on the usefulness of KM, are absent from the literature. This study focuses on the intersection of knowledge management and knowledge fortification. The study employs survey data from a sample of firms and utilises partial least squares (PLS) with extensive post hoc analyses, to examine the influence of CR and SP on KM core processes (acquisition, sharing, and utilisation) and subsequently on the operational effectiveness and strategic performance of firms. Contrary to prior research, we found that external knowledge sharing negatively affected performance. These findings support our assertion that KM processes are tied to contingencies that change the relationship between KM outcomes. Collapse

Abstract: Advances in and increased access to mobile technology have prompted businesses to embrace gamified appli­ cations, particularly to enhance customer engagement. Thus, it is important to highlight not only the antecedents and consequences of customer engagement but also the critical role of gamification. This study aims to examine the causal relationships among brand identification, self-expressiveness, brand love, gamification, customer engagement, brand experience, and repurchase intention in the context of Nike Run Club, a gamified running app available at the Apple and Google Play stores. It also explores the mediating effect of consumer engagement on the association that brand love and gamification have with brand experience and repurchase intention. Addi­ tionally, it analyzes the moderating effects of gamification on the relationship between brand love and customer engagement. The hypotheses are empirically tested by analyzing data collected from 526 respondents on a Nike Run Club app. Results confirm that both brand identification and self-expressiveness significantly and positively influence brand love, which in turn significantly and positively affects customer engagement and, subsequently, brand experience and repurchase intention. Further, this study demonstrates that customer engagement acts as a mediator to improve brand experience and to motivate the customer to repurchase the brand. In addition to showing the impact of gamification on brand love, brand experience, and repurchase intention, this study reveals the moderating effect of gamification on the relationship between brand love and customer engagement. These findings offer deeper insights into brand identification, self-expressiveness, and gamification as significant influencing factors, which can be helpful to brand managers in enhancing brand love and customer engagement. Additionally, this study demonstrates that gamification is the most effective approach to increasing brand love, strengthening customer engagement, and improving brand experiences and repurchase intention. Abstract: Heuristics are mental shortcuts that have ubiquitous influences on decision making. We investigate whether and how different heuristics have distinct effects in the context of peer-to-peer (P2P) lending. Drawing on theories on the roles that heuristics play in decision making, we conjecture that when borrowers use different heuristics based on distinct motives to set their loan amounts, their funding success and repayment performance also differ. Using detailed P2P lending data from a Chinese P2P lending platform, we examine two important numerological heuristics, the round-number heuristic and the lucky-number heuristic, which are observable in over 80% of the submitted loan amounts. We find that round-number loans are less likely to get funded and exhibit poor repayment performance after being funded, whereas lucky-number loans exhibit the opposite pattern. These findings, which we attribute to the different motives behind the borrowers’ heuristic choices, challenge the conventional understanding that generally treats all heuristics as behavioral biases. Our results are robust to various identification strategies, including coarsened exact matching and instrumental variable estimation. Abstract: Platforms increasingly rely on AI algorithms to execute automated task allocation, monitoring, and performance evaluation of workers in the gig economy. Platforms also expect AI algorithms can prompt gig workers to provide proactive services to customers for a better reputation. However, it remains unclear how algorithmic management impacts the proactive service behavior of gig workers. Based on self-determination theory, this emergent research forum paper proposes a double-edged sword effect of algorithmic management due to conflicting work motives: algorithmic management can increase gig workers' proactive service behavior via autonomy motivation, whereas it can also inhibit proactive service behavior via controlled motivation. A three-wave longitudinal survey will be conducted to test the posited double-edged sword effect. This study has the potential to contribute to the algorithmic management literature in IS field by uncovering the "black box" between algorithm management and proactive service behavior of gig workers from the perspective of work motivation. Abstract: Integrating wireless power transfer with mobile edge computing (MEC) has become a powerful solution for increasingly complicated and dynamic industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) systems. However, the traditional approaches overlooked the heterogeneity of the tasks and the dynamic arrival of energy in wirelessly powered MEC-enabled IIOT systems. In this article, we formulate the problem of maximizing the product of the computing rate and the task execution success rate for heterogeneous tasks. To manage energy harvesting adaptively and select appropriate computing modes, we devise an online resource allocation and computation offloading approach based on deep reinforcement learning. We decompose this approach into two stages: an offloading decision stage and a stopping decision stage. The purpose of the offloading decision stage is to select the computing mode and dynamically allocate the computation round length for each task after learning from the channel state information and the task experience. This stage allows the system to support heterogeneous computing tasks. Subsequently, in the second stage, we adaptively adjust the number of fading slots devoted to energy harvesting in each round in accordance with the status of each fading slot. Simulation results show that our proposed algorithm can better allocate resources for heterogeneous tasks and reduce the ratio of failed tasks and energy consumption when compared with several existing algorithms. Abstract: As the organizational demand for ICT (Information Communication Technologies) undergoes rapid changes, organizations must integrate other enterprise systems into ICT to continually address their current challenges. However, few studies have considered the dynamic fabric of ICT, especially since its usage is evolving with the development of digital technology and the organization’s needs. Therefore, this study conducts a case study of a prominent Taiwanese petrochemical corporation, exploring its ICT practices to underscore the dynamic nature of ICT. Additionally, the study introduces a collective enactment model to investigate the development of evolving ICT practices within the organization. Prior literature on ICT development focuses on organizational applications and its novel technology feature. With the evolution of technology, traditional ICT alone is no longer sufficient to meet digital transformation requirements. In other words, organizations need to integrate other enterprise sys­ tems in ICT to continually address their current challenges effectively. To investigate the practices under such evolving ICT, this study suggests viewing ICT as a continuously evolving practice to cope with the rapidly changing organizational environment. From a managerial perspective, this study highlights the dynamic feature of ICT, especially the interaction between ICT and organization members. Abstract: With the advent of artificial intelligence (AI), more and more enterprises have begun developing AI to promote their own competitive advantage and increase their business value. In order to reveal the value-added results of AI implementation, this study adopts an event study methodology to capture the abnormal returns resulting from the announcement of AI implementation. Based on the empirical results of this study, in response to the announcement of AI implementation, we find significant positive abnormal returns on the event day. With respect to the grouping analysis, the results show significant differences in average cumulative abnormal returns between announcements with detailed information and those without detailed information. In addition, our findings present significant differences in average cumulative abnormal returns between IT-companies and non-IT companies on the event day. Ultimately, according to the content analysis, only one characteristic, the frequency of negative words, is modestly and negatively correlated with average cumulative abnormal returns. Collapse
