Abstract: The information systems research stream on dynamic capabilities (DCs) considers how technology impacts strategic management at the organizational level in the turbulent environment evoked by digital transformation. However, the underlying mechanisms of how organizations use technologies effectively to increase their competitive advantage through competitive actions is underexplored. This paper seeks to empirically investigate the impact of digital technology-enabled DCs on action speed and action volume, two indicators of competitive aggressiveness. Furthermore, we propose the mediating role of strategic renewal. Our PLS-SEM analysis based on survey data from 174 German business units indicates that digital technology-enabled DCs directly enhance strategic renewal, action speed, and action volume. We also detect a partial mediating effect of strategic renewal on the relationship between digital technology-enabled DCs and action volume. This study offers insights into the underlying mechanisms that may allow organizations to enhance their competitive aggressiveness through the application of digital technologies. Collapse

Abstract: Business productivity and speed to market are among the top priorities of IS managers to stay successful. To achieve these goals, a change in business processes or models is often required, which is often linked to the phenomenon of digitalization. Enterprises have observed that a holistic approach to agile IS development is essential to enable this change, leading to the concept of “DevOps”. While past studies have delivered first insights about DevOps, an understanding of which factors are important to introduce DevOps in organizations, and how DevOps relates to digitalization, is still missing. To close this gap, we conducted a two-staged study of literature review and multiple-case study. Our findings suggest that DevOps links success and practices for development and operations across actors of different organizational levels. We find that DevOps supports digitalization efforts, contribute to the understanding of the DevOps phenomenon and identify worthwhile paths for further research. Collapse

Abstract: This study offers fresh ontological insights by examining generative causality through the Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) counterfactual lens, in conjunction with Critical Realism and the practice of retroduction. Specifically, it claims that Information Systems (IS) researchers could retroduce generative mechanisms by leveraging the QCA counterfactual approach to causation because retroduction is about conjecturing hypothetical mechanisms that would generate the outcome of interest in a counterfactual fashion. Drawing on an example of typological theorising, this study calls for a renewed effort in the use of retroduction in the study of IS phenomena. In addition, this study sheds new light on the overarching approach for conducting Critical Realist (case study) research. A number of theoretical, methodological, and practical implications are discussed. Collapse

Abstract: Clinical decision support systems (CDSS) improve healthcare delivery by providing data-driven opinions to care providers throughout the entire care process. The Information Systems (IS) community has produced many works on the subject in the last decade, and it is necessary to comprehensively examine the current state of research to determine the most promising themes to explore in future research. In this short paper, we conducted a literature review of the past five years to synthesise research efforts. By reviewing a preliminary sample of papers, we found that three major areas may be of interest to the IS Community: 'Positive' and 'negative' CDSS discontinuance, patient-centric value creation of CDSSs and the role of policy-makers in mitigating harmful social effects of CDSS policies. This research-in-progress will hopefully lead to the creation of a research agenda for CDSSs. Collapse

Abstract: Since the dawn of evolutionary technological civilisation, analytics has promised to revolutionise healthcare and enable more efficient patient care delivery. However, after the applications of AI tools in healthcare, doctors and patients are no longer the sole players in the doctor-patient relationship. AI emerges as the third player, which creates unique opportunities in this relationship. By examining the impact of non-human actor-AI on the doctor-patient relationship and exploring the related concepts, such as human-AI augmentation and human-in-the-loop, valuable insights can be gained regarding the use of AI in healthcare. Following this background, based on a systematic literature review and the methodological approach of Lebovitz et al. Abstract: As an emerging virtual platform. Metaverse is increasingly applied to various collaboration contexts such as group gaming, team collaboration in work, and online group learning. To investigate users' group engagement in the Metaverse, this study applies a socio-technical perspective to the context of Metaverse gaming. We propose a theoretical model and test it with a multi-method approach, consisting of structural equation modeling (SEM) and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). The SEM results show that all the proposed social (social presence and group harmony), individual (demand toward social activities and acceptance toward virtual world), and technological factors (self-representation) positively determine users' group engagement in Metaverse gaming. Our fsQCA results further reveal the interdependent relationships among those factors (i.e., multiple configurations), which are nuanced under different contexts of their gender and level of prior experience. While the current findings are insightful and useful, they should be further studied through future research. Collapse

Abstract: Nonmalicious information security violations (NISV) that employees engage in can pose a problem to organizations. The Social Cognitive Theory was used to investigate the roles of three constructs, (a) peer support, (b) perceived organizational support, and (c) personal goal setting in reducing NISV. The study also examined the interactions among the three variables. Relevant hypotheses were formulated, and survey data were obtained from 204 German workers. The partial least squares technique was used for data analysis. The results showed that the three factors could reduce employee engagement in NISV.Another key finding of the study indicates that the interaction between personal goal setting in reducing engagement in NISV and peer support significantly reduced employee participation in NISV. In contrast, the interaction between perceived organizational support and personal goal setting related to NISV avoidance did not. The implications of the study's findings for practice and contributions to research were discussed.Employees engage more in nonmalicious information security violations (e.g., visiting non-related websites and disclosing work passwords to others) than in malicious acts (e.g., sabotage or theft). Research on how to diminish such behaviors is emerging. This study contributed to that discourse by examining the roles of personal goal setting regarding avoiding NISV, peer support to shun NISV, and Peer, Organizational Support, Goal setting, and Nonmalicious Security Violations Twenty-ninth Americas Conference on Information Systems, Panama, 2023 9 perceived organizational support in reducing employee engagement in the behavior. The data confirmed the significant impact of the three factors in diminishing workers' urges to engage in such behaviors. The result also showed that the combination of personal goal setting regarding avoiding NISV and peer support to avoid such practices could engender desired outcomes. Insights generated from this current work are expected to motivate future studies on how to contain workers' participation in NISV. Collapse

Abstract: Online personal profile photos (PPPs) can serve as a source of impression formation and judgment about individuals. This study investigates how the emotionality expressed in a job candidate's online PPP on a professional social network (e.g., LinkedIn) affects a recruiter's perceptions of them. Drawing on social role theory and classifying job roles along agency (agentic) and communal dimensions, this paper proposes that job candidates whose emotional expression or inexpression in their online PPP is consistent with qualities associated with agentic and communal job roles are more likely to be perceived as competent and fit for the job role. Abstract: This paper distinguishes and discusses three strategies for theory building in Information Systems (IS) -inductive empiricism, theory specialization, and scientific idealization -and contrasts them in terms of three desiderata of theories -realism, generality, and precision -and the tradeoffs between them. Inductive empiricism, emphasizing realism and generality, represents the received view with the classic Grounded Theory Methodology as a prime example. This paper argues for openness to theory specialization in practical disciplines such as IS. Theory specialization implies sacrificing a generality of theories for their realism and precision. The distinctive attention of the paper lies in scientific idealization, sacrificing the realism of theories for their precision and generality. It has almost been completely omitted in the literature on IS theory building. The special focus of this paper lies in IT applications as a category of IT artifacts and in design-oriented theories that provide knowledge of how to design "better" IT applications.
