Abstract: Manually analyzing large collections of research articles is a time-and resource-intensive activity, making it difficult to stay on top of the latest research findings. Limitations of automated solutions lie in limited domain knowledge and not being able to attribute extracted key terms to a focal article, related work, or background information. We aim to address this challenge by (1) developing a framework for classifying sentences in scientific publications, (2) performing several experiments comparing state-of-the-art sentence transformer algorithms with a novel few-shot learning technique and (3) automatically analyzing a corpus of articles and evaluating automated knowledge extraction capabilities. We tested our approach for combining sentence classification with ontological annotations on a manually created dataset of 1,000 sentences from Information Systems (IS) articles. The results indicate a high degree of accuracy underlining the potential for novel approaches in analyzing scientific publications. Collapse

Abstract: This work proposed an integrated model incorporating review quality and quantity to explore the extent to which consumers adopt electronic word-of-mouth (e-WOM) information. A linear structural equation model was employed to analyze 435 valid responses and test it against the hypotheses. The empirical results suggest that in terms of e-WOM the influence of review quantity outweighs that of the review quality. Review consistency negatively correlates with informational influence. Consumers are alert to highly consistent reviews and may easily doubt ones that contain similar content. Furthermore, the relationship between perceived persuasiveness and social influence will not be inhibited by confirmation bias. Collapse

Abstract: Crowdworking is increasingly being applied by companies to outsource tasks beyond their core competencies flexibly and cost-effectively to an unknown group. However, the anonymous and financially incentivized nature of crowdworkers creates information asymmetries and conflicts of interest, leading to inefficiencies and intensifying the principal-agent problem. Our paper offers a solution to the widespread problem of inefficient Crowdworking campaigns. We first derive the currently applied Crowdworking campaign process based on a qualitative study. Subsequently, we identify the broadest adverse selection and moral hazard problems in the process. We then analyze how the blockchain application of smart contracts can counteract those challenges and develop a process model that maps a Crowdworking campaign using smart contracts. We explain how our developed process significantly reduces adverse selection and moral hazard at each stage. Thus, our research provides approaches to make online labor more attractive and transparent for companies and online workers. Collapse

Abstract: Crowdworking is characterized by flexibly engaging a workforce that is recruited for only one task. After the task is completed, the crowdworker and the company do not collaborate anymore. To identify the best-suited crowdwoker for a certain task, crowd working platform providers offer different tools to match both parties. Matching a crowdworker with the required skills for a task is an important factor to complete a crowdworking campaign successfully. As of today, the principal agent theorem and high transaction costs decrease the effectiveness of such campaigns due to information asymmetries between crodworkers and crowdsourcers. Based on a qualitative approach, we structurally develop a currently existing crowdworking campaign process. We then theoretically analyze how smart contracts can support and simplify the identified process while reducing the challenges of transaction cost economics and the principal agent theorem. Abstract: We examine how social influence interacts with other information sources to affect user behaviors in the context of medical crowdfunding. We conduct a large-scale randomized field experiment on a leading medical crowdfunding platform, showing friends’ donation information to donors in the treatment group and not showing such information in the control group, and examine how the likelihood to donate differs. In addition, we conduct a survey on Amazon Mechanical Turk to evaluate the informational value of different case attributes in conveying the patients’ need for help to donors. We find that for cases containing attributes with high informational value (e.g., minor patient, severe conditions), social influence is insignificant. In contrast, for cases lacking attributes with high informational value, social influence significantly increases donors’ likelihood to donate. Overall, our results show that the impact of social influence depends on the informational value of other information sources, suggesting that the social influence in our context is primarily informational. Our findings indicate that rather than generating an entrenchment effect, where cases with attributes of high informational value attract disproportionate benefits, social influence can increase donation likelihood to cases that lack such attributes, promoting more equal access to resources overall. Abstract: In the data economy, data has become an essential strategic resource for gaining a competitive advantage. Data spaces represent a relatively new phenomenon aimed at encouraging businesses to fully leverage the potential of data. Despite various approaches for definitions there remains a lack of clarity surrounding the conceptualization of data space, its perceived value, and the factors that drive its adoption. The conceptual ambiguity and synonymous usage of the term in academic and business literature present significant obstacles to targeted conceptualization and use. This paper addresses these issues by proposing primary properties of data space and contributes to the field by applying a semantic decomposition. Through this approach, we identified data space as having the following conceptual aspects Nature, Element, Function, Utility and Governance. These primitives highlight the growing need for security and privacy when sharing interorganizational data. In addition, we offer an initial definition of data spaces. Collapse
