Abstract: Creating and delivering products and services that promote sustainability is increasingly important in today's economy. Novel services based on digital technologies and infrastructure can significantly contribute to sustainable development, as demonstrated by digitally enabled car-sharing services where increased asset utilization reduces production-related greenhouse gas emissions. However, there is still limited knowledge on how digital service innovation can purposefully be applied to promote sustainability.To address this gap, we conduct a systematic literature review and perform a qualitative inductive analysis of 50 articles on the impact of digital service innovation on social, environmental, and economic sustainability. We provide a comprehensive overview of real-world applications and identify five underlying mechanisms through which innovation with digital services can drive sustainable development. In doing so, we aim to pave the way to purposefully conceive, design, and implement digital services for sustainability. Collapse

Abstract: Previous research in other fields has shown an increasing interest in understanding newcomers’ stress and its impact on professionals’ well-being. However, we still have a limited understanding of newcomers’ stress and its emotional, behavioral, and psychological effects in the information technology organization (IT) and information system (IS) development contexts. Moreover, the newcomers’ socialization process into IT work or/ and organizations remains unexplored in the IS field. We conducted a qualitative and longitudinal case study (pre-COVID-19) that helped us understand newcomers’ stress from IS project work, and how its consequences emerge during their socialization process. We provided information in response to the call for more understanding of newcomers’ stress elements in the IT organization and IS project context. It is important to understand different stress elements and their consequences because these elements impact individuals’ attitudes, behaviors, job performance, and health among other things. Abstract: Organizational culture plays a paramount role in the success and outcomes of Business Process Management (BPM) initiatives. So far, academic research has primarily focused on the cultural values supporting exploitative BPM, and to a greater extent in the private sector. In this study, we aim to uncover the cultural context in the international public sector, underpinning the explorative dimension of BPM, as well as the necessary capabilities to balance explorative and exploitative process management practices. The latter is defined as BPM ambidexterity. For this purpose, we have conducted case studies in European Union (EU) public sector organizations because this governmental level stimulates digital innovation and is quite varied while not being limited to a single country. Our main contribution is a model of cultural values supporting exploratory BPM, called FADE (i.e., values related to Failure allowance, Agility, Disruptiveness, and Ecosystems). Collapse

Abstract: Many market transactions are subject to information asymmetry about the delivered value proposition, causing transaction costs and adverse effects among buyers and sellers. Information systems (IS) research has investigated how review systems can reduce information asymmetry in business-to-consumer markets. However, these systems use textual data or star ratings that cannot be readily applied to business-tobusiness markets, are vulnerable to manipulation, and suffer from other conceptual shortcomings. Building on design science research, we conceptualize a new class of reputation systems based on using payments as monetary ratings for each transaction stored on a blockchain. We show that our system assures content confidentiality so buyers can share, sell, and aggregate their ratings selectively, establishing a reputation ecosystem. Our prescriptive insights advance the design of reputation systems and offer new paths to understanding how payments can be used as signals that reduce information asymmetry in B2B transactions. Abstract: Reputation is indispensable for online business since it supports customers in their buying decisions and allows sellers to justify premium prices. While IS research has investigated reputation systems mainly as review systems on online platforms for business-to-consumer (B2C) transactions, no proper solutions have been developed for business-to-business (B2B) transactions yet. We use blockchain technology to propose a new class of reputation systems that apply ratings as voluntary bonus payments: Before a transaction is performed, customers commit to pay a bonus that is granted if a service provider has performed a service properly. As opposed to rival reputation systems that build on cumulated ratings or reviews, our system enables monetized reputation mechanisms that are inextricably linked with online transactions. We expect this system class to provide more trustworthy ratings, which might reduce agency costs and serve quality providers to establish a reputation towards new customers, building on second-order trust. Abstract: Social learning theory has attracted increasing attention in recent years in terms of its use to study information security policy non-compliance behavior. But previous results of studies in the field of information security have been rather heterogeneous. various influencing factors have been considered within the framework of social learning theory. Previous studies quantitatively assess the effectiveness of social learning by relying on mean-based regression methods. In contrast, we intend to apply quantile regression to provide a new perspective on the subject. Therefore, we estimate the overall impact of social learning interventions and uncover how their impact differs among employees with different propensities (quantiles) for information security policy compliance behavior—an important finding for determining safety interventions for specific employee groups. Based on data collected in Germany, our results show significantly different effects in the analyzed quantile aspects of imitations and differential reinforcement. Collapse

Abstract: Analyzing symbols shared within online communities (OCs) is essential to better understand communities' expressed cultures. To evaluate how OCs differ in their expressed culture and analyze the effects of community rules (CR) and moderation policies (MP), we examined meme sharing of subreddit and interaction communities on Reddit. To detect memes shared within subreddits automatically, we trained a convolutional neural network and applied a feature-matching algorithm to create meme networks with components consisting of visually similar memes. Based on each community's component composition, we created community-specific meme languages that we compared across subreddit and interaction communities. Our results show that memes can be aggregated to characteristic meme languages linked to individual OCs; yet MP and CR do not impact the homogeneity of shared memes. Based on these findings, we plan to analyze dynamically the relationship between memes and OCs, examining memes' textual content and diving deeper into users' individual meme languages. Collapse

Abstract: In response to their growing importance, digital infrastructures (DIs) are increasingly subject to governmental regulation due to concerns over the downside risks posed by digital technologies to individuals and society. There is a general paucity of studies that address the impact of regulations on DI innovation. In addition, existing research presents seemingly contradictory findings on regulations governing digital technologies as both enabling and inhibiting innovation. This paper, therefore, elaborates on how different types of regulation impact various forms of DI innovation. We draw on modular systems theory to enrich extant conceptualisations of DIs and develop a related conceptual model that demonstrates the paths by which two types of DI regulation influence DI architectural modularity, which is proposed as a mediating mechanism that influences DI innovation. Our model makes a theoretical contribution through an in-depth explanation of the relationship between regulation and DI innovation by articulating and illustrating the effects of regulatory provisions and thereby extends the extant DI literature. In terms of practical implications, our model can help stakeholders both create DI regulation and respond to regulatory provisions. Collapse

Abstract: As organizations have become increasingly reliant on information systems, senior managers are keen in assessing the progress of implemented information security strategies. Although the balanced scorecard approach has been suggested for security governance, a critical issue affecting information security practitioners is complexity, as there are many standards and frameworks, with duplication and overlaps to adhere to when organizing the data. Consequently, the article attempts to develop a more inclusive framework for information security governance, a research gap recently identified in the literature. The article maps five governance and control frameworks (COBIT, SABSA, ISG, ITIL, and ISO 27000) to the information security balanced scorecard (InfoSec BSC) to develop a conceptual design of an effective information security performance measurement tool that can be used by senior managers. Using a real-life case application and interviews with a panel of experts, the article identifies IS initiatives, performance measures for each of the mapped objectives derived from governance and control frameworks that may provide guidance for practitioners.
