Abstract: In contemporary software development, software process tailoring (SPT) refers to the continual planning and adjustment of the development process, which evolves to better accommodate dynamics and meet customer needs. SPT is a critical teamwork involving the differences in time-related perceptions among team members when tailoring to adjust and refine the development. This is particularly true in agile-based projects that promote iterative development over shorter cycle times for early release; thus, temporality is critical to efficiently and effectively determine a process solution for the next iteration of time-bound development. In this regard, this study theorizes a temporal model to explore how teams' temporal leadership, temporal reflexivity and shared temporal cognitions (STC) collectively determine SPT performance in agile environments. Based on an empirical examination, we suggest facilitating the role of temporal leadership in agile development, as the results demonstrate that it not only directly increases SPT performance but also stimulates both temporal reflexivity and STC in their collateral influences on effectual development planning. Notably, the results also show that team reflexivity does not exert the same favorable effect in SPT as in the distributed team environment. Theoretical implications are considered, and practical applications of the findings are provided. Collapse

Abstract: Fake news has led to a polarized society as evidenced by diametrically opposed perceptions of and reactions to global events such as the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and presidential campaigns. Popular press has linked individuals’ political beliefs and cultural values to the extent to which they believe in false content shared on social networking sites (SNS). However, sweeping generalizations run the risk of helping exacerbate divisiveness in already polarized societies. This study examines the effects of individuals’ political beliefs and espoused cultural values on fake news believability using a repeated-measures design (that exposes individuals to a variety of fake news scenarios). Results from online questionnaire-based survey data collected from participants in the US and India help confirm that conservative individuals tend to exhibit increasing fake news believability and show that collectivists tend to do the same. This study advances knowledge on charac­ teristics that make individuals more susceptible to lending credence to fake news. In addition, this study explores the influence exerted by control variables (i.e., age, sex, and Internet usage). Findings are used to provide im­ plications for theory as well as actionable insights. Collapse

Abstract: Media capabilities influence consumers' trust in online exchanges. However, in the sharing economy, where consumers interact with service providers through a platform, conventional models of trust must be revisited. Our research identifies how media synchronicity and anonymity influence the relative importance of institution-based trust in sharing economy exchanges. We collected data from 248 ride-hailing customers and 288 cryptocurrency users to test a moderated mediation model of trust. We find that in the sharing economy media synchronicity and anonymity lead customers to develop trust toward service providers directly and undermine the impact of institutional trust mechanisms. This indicates that in sharing economy exchanges, trust can be built directly with the service provider, or alternatively, indirectly through the platform. Consequently, organizations in the sharing economy can strategically design their systems to engender trust by choosing between (1) emphasizing the platform's reputation or (2) encouraging direct communication between the consumer and service providers. Abstract: In recent years, video games have been on the rise as entertainment goods, leading to a growing interest by practitioners, researchers, and, of course, consumers alike. While a few unusually successful video games produce overall high revenues, most released games struggle to break even. Hence, there is an urgent need to better understand what distinguishes financially successful games from nonsuccessful video games. Accordingly, several researchers have called for investigations into the drivers of the financial success of video games. However, empirical studies within this respect are still lacking. Based on longitudinal data of 351 video games, the current study strives to fill this research gap by investigating the relative importance of potential success factors for the short-term and long-term financial success of video games. The results of multiple regression analyses confirm that search qualities such as brand popularity, reviews, and awards as well as experience qualities such as graphics, sound, and game duration significantly drive financial success in terms of the total number of sold video games in Europe. Consequently, managers in the video game industry can boost their chances for the production of a successful video game by focusing on these factors. Collapse

Abstract: This paper investigates how social cues, used to anthropomorphize assistance systems (ASs), like conversational agents, influences the behavior of users. We find that anthropomorphizing, in our case by giving them a voice, increases social presence, and, in turn, empathy and trust. Yet, we argue that social presence also has negative impacts. We propose-and empirically proof-that a higher social presence also leads to a stronger feeling of being observed. This, in contrary to our hypothesis, results in lower investments. In addition, we found a trend of higher enjoyment with increasing feeling of being observed. This result emphasis the complexity of creating and designing ASs. Through the invocation of social presence anthropomorphizing might have negative and positive effects on outcome variables. Collapse

Abstract: Literature has shown that business-information technology (IT) alignment can exert both positive and negative influences on organizational agility, giving rise to the IT alignment-agility paradox. To better understand this paradox at a more granular level, we conceptualize the sensing and responding dimensions of organizational agility as two independent constructs and suggest a nonlinear analytical approach. Based on configurational and contextual perspectives, this study investigates how intellectual and social alignment and organizational and environmental elements combine into multiple configurations to affect sensing and responding capabilities. Fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) is used to analyze the survey data from 135 dyads of business and IT executives from the Chinese shipbuilding industry. Results show that different equifinal pathways can be used to achieve high sensing and responding capabilities, in which intellectual and social alignment play heterogeneous roles depending on the specific contexts. This study extends the ITenabled agility literature by deepening our understanding of the effects of multidimensional IT alignment on multidimensional organizational agility and providing new insights into the IT alignment-agility paradox. Abstract: Nonmalicious information security violations (NISV) that employees engage in can pose a problem to organizations. The Social Cognitive Theory was used to investigate the roles of three constructs, (a) peer support, (b) perceived organizational support, and (c) personal goal setting in reducing NISV. The study also examined the interactions among the three variables. Relevant hypotheses were formulated, and survey data were obtained from 204 German workers. The partial least squares technique was used for data analysis. The results showed that the three factors could reduce employee engagement in NISV.Another key finding of the study indicates that the interaction between personal goal setting in reducing engagement in NISV and peer support significantly reduced employee participation in NISV. In contrast, the interaction between perceived organizational support and personal goal setting related to NISV avoidance did not. The implications of the study's findings for practice and contributions to research were discussed.Employees engage more in nonmalicious information security violations (e.g., visiting non-related websites and disclosing work passwords to others) than in malicious acts (e.g., sabotage or theft). Research on how to diminish such behaviors is emerging. This study contributed to that discourse by examining the roles of personal goal setting regarding avoiding NISV, peer support to shun NISV, and Peer, Organizational Support, Goal setting, and Nonmalicious Security Violations Twenty-ninth Americas Conference on Information Systems, Panama, 2023 9 perceived organizational support in reducing employee engagement in the behavior. The data confirmed the significant impact of the three factors in diminishing workers' urges to engage in such behaviors. The result also showed that the combination of personal goal setting regarding avoiding NISV and peer support to avoid such practices could engender desired outcomes. Insights generated from this current work are expected to motivate future studies on how to contain workers' participation in NISV. Collapse

Abstract: One prominent stream of IS research focuses on cognitive absorption during technology use, which generally leads to favorable attitudes toward technology and increased performance. Another stream of IS research has examined outcomes of interruptions, such as interruption overload and decreased work performance. Do these two streams of inquiries, so far virtually independent from each another, in fact examine opposing sides of the same coin? Building on the autism research literature, this study presents a new theoretical model that integrates these two disparate sets of observations as opposing manifestations of one phenomenon, called autistic inertia, to explore impacts of neurodiversity on remote work. A survey is being carried out to empirically test the model. Data that we have collected so far have provided empirical support for the model. Implications for IS research and practice are discussed. Abstract: Drawing on the resource-based view, this study investigates the interactive effects of green information tech­ nologies/systems (IT/IS) adoption, environmental motivation, and IT–business strategic alignment on organi­ zations’ perceived relative environmental performance. We use data from a field study of 587 firms in China to test our hypotheses. The results confirm that green IT/IS positively affects the perceived relative environmental performance of organizations and that the interaction of IT–business strategic alignment and environmental motivation positively moderates the relationship between green IT/IS adoption and organizations’ perceived relative environmental performance.
