Abstract: The success of crowdsourcing (CS) systems depends on sustained participation, which is an ongoing challenge for the majority of CS providers. Unfortunately, participants are frequently demotivated by technical difficulties and the incorrect use of CS systems, which can result in CS failure. Although the literature generally assumes that sustained participation in CS is determined by a shift between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, the role of system-use practices in facilitating such a shift remains unknown. We explore how CS system-use practices influence participants' sustained motivation, evolving from initiation to progression to sustention. Using the notion of technology-in-practice as a lens, we develop and examine a process model using an in-depth case study of a large-scale ongoing CS project, the Australian Newspaper Digitisation Program. The findings suggest that CS participants' motivation is shaped by an evolving combination of three basic components (i.e., contextual condition, outcome and action intensity) and mediated by two types of system-use practice (i.e., passive and active). Passive-use practices facilitate sustaining motivation from initiation to progression, whereas active-use practices have a key role in sustention. Our study contributes to the emerging literature on the substantial role of system-use practices in sustaining motivation, resulting in sustained participation. The findings also offer actionable insights into improving the viability of CS systems in retaining and motivating continuous and increased contributions from participants. Collapse

Abstract: As banks face heightened levels of regulatory challenges, many of them, especially those in developing countries, are struggling to maintain their reputations. This paper addresses the following questions: How do commercial banks in developing countries like Lebanon respond to institutional pressures for compliance concerning anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-financing of terrorism (CFT)? How do Regulatory Technology (RegTech) solutions contribute to solving their compliance problems in this domain and why may the potential of RegTech be limited in the Lebanese context? To answer these questions, we conducted a field study among Lebanese commercial banks and their vendors. Based on thematic analysis, findings reveal the importance of technology for enhancing compliance of Lebanese banks with international regulations, especially US ones, thereby avoiding sanctions. Thus, the adoption of RegTech is mainly due to coercive pressures, whereas the choice of RegTech solutions is highly dependent on mimetic and normative forces, and happens later. Results also show that manual processes are insufficient for compliance due to the huge number of regulations and transactions. Hence, RegTech for AML/CFT is notably adopted for the efficient screening of clients and monitoring of their transactions. These solutions enhance decision-making processes for compliance teams, which become effective when the banks ensure an adequate interaction between employees and the new technologies. However, RegTech presents several additional challenges that have to be overcome for effective compliance such as finding the right vendors and ensuring data quality. Moreover, the geopolitical context in developing countries like Lebanon limits the potential of RegTech for AML/CFT. Collapse

Abstract: With the explosive growth of mobile phone users, individuals are getting used to using mobile phones to get various services. Mobile government, as one of important channels to provide official government services, has been paid increasingly attention recently. In order to discover the critical influence factors of individual attitude and behavioral intention, a meta-analysis method was used to construct a comprehensive framework for individual mobile government adoption and find out the moderating role of economic development level, based on 38 related empirical research publications. Abstract: This research investigates technical characteristics and technological, social, and affective factors that influence the evaluation of perceived privacy risks and benefits toward adopting AI-based smart healthcare services in the USA. The study develops a research model that integrates Privacy Calculus Theory (PCT) with new constructs, i.e., AI technical characteristics (personalization and anthropomorphism), technological factors (perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness), social factors (social influence and privacy regulation) and two opposite emotional states (enjoyment and exhaustion). A survey will be developed and distributed using crowdsourcing through Prolific. The findings of our research will shed light on the different role of technical characteristics and technological, social, and affective factors on the calculus between perceived risks and benefits in relation to the adoption of AI-based smart healthcare services. Abstract: Financial technology is undergoing rapid developments with the arrival of cryptocurrencies, the introduction of stablecoins, and more recently the discussion surrounding central bank digital currencies. The adoption of these technologies has received significant attention, but there has not yet been any research as to how the adoption factors for the three currencies differ, given their inherent similarities. This paper proposes to estimate the effect of trust and perceived risk on the adoption intention of the three aforementioned payment systems by creating three closely-matched questionnaires for each digital currency. This will enable us to estimate the effects of risk and trust in a way that makes it possible to compare the effect sizes for the different technologies, and can help evaluate whether a reduction of perceived market risk is sufficient for cryptocurrency adoption, and whether backing by the central bank may confer more benefits to adoption than the trustlessness touted for cryptocurrencies. Abstract: This work proposed an integrated model incorporating review quality and quantity to explore the extent to which consumers adopt electronic word-of-mouth (e-WOM) information. A linear structural equation model was employed to analyze 435 valid responses and test it against the hypotheses. The empirical results suggest that in terms of e-WOM the influence of review quantity outweighs that of the review quality. Review consistency negatively correlates with informational influence. Consumers are alert to highly consistent reviews and may easily doubt ones that contain similar content. Furthermore, the relationship between perceived persuasiveness and social influence will not be inhibited by confirmation bias. Collapse

Abstract: Despite all our theorizing efforts and the importance that we and our major information systems (IS) journals ascribe to theory development, making theoretical contributions to our field remains challenging. Recognizing that we cannot develop better theories without improving how we theorize, our field is now engaged in an in-depth discussion of the theorizing process. This manuscript contributes to this discussion by exposing why and how leveraging paradigms when theorizing can foster theoretical contributions within our field. Its premise is that we need to stop working within the confines of a limited set of well-entrenched paradigms and move beyond what is known as true and correct to come up with improvements that significantly alter the way we come to rationalize, explain, and master our world. Anchored on this premise, this manuscript begins by discussing the origin, role, and features of paradigms as well as explaining that they are of three different but interrelated forms (i.e., metaphysical, sociological, and artefactual). The manuscript then adds to this understanding of paradigms by detailing the unique relationships that tie paradigms of each form to theory and explaining why taking advantage of these unique bonds when theorizing may help us make theoretical contributions. Lastly, to foster theoretical contributions within our field, this manuscript proposes a set of guidelines to help us leverage paradigms of the different forms when theorizing. Collapse

Abstract: As the use phase of buildings produces a substantial negative environmental impact, mechanisms to guide individuals towards more sustainable energy consumption are of interest. Smart energy apps which constantly monitor energy consumption and provide energy reduction recommendations to private households are a promising tool to tackle this issue. However, as little is known about factors driving their adoption, it remains unclear whether their potential can be leveraged. Against this backdrop, this study derives a technology acceptance model for smart energy apps which builds on a quantitative survey with 300 participants and the partial least squares approach. The results highlight personal innovativeness and environmental norms as additional acceptance factors. Our study points at the importance integrating both individual and technological aspects in technology adoption research, unveils potential levers for IS to drive adoption, and provides guidance to smart energy app designers. Abstract: The human creation of a product serves as a quality signal. Given recent progress in generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), the "handmade" label is increasingly replaced by an "AI-made" label. However, due to consumers' inherent algorithm aversion, the "AI-made" label adversely affects consumption behavior. Accordingly, firms need to understand how consumers' aversion towards AI-generated products can be mitigated. Our explorative approach focuses on the nascent phenomenon of applying generative AI for creating textual news products. Based on 41 consumer interviews, we derive five signals that may mitigate consumers' concerns with AI-generated textual products: The establishment of a quality control instance, the application of a hard output paradigm, the provision of information and process transparency, and the presence of positive reviews. These signals enable firms to leverage the economic benefits associated with delegating product creation to generative AI agents. Collapse

Abstract: Social commerce is a rapidly emerging phenomenon involving commercial interactions and transactions through social media. Notwithstanding its global diffusion, social commerce remains ill-understood, particularly in the Arab context. Consequently, this study presents a multifocal framework exploring factors impacting user engagement in social commerce in Qatar. The framework encompasses technological, social media, and sociocultural characteristics, resulting in a holistic conceptual model for assessing user engagement and purchase intention. Through empirical quantitative data collection and analysis, the study aims to contribute to the nascent theoretical foundations of social commerce, particularly by integrating and validating a range of social media and sociocultural factors.
