Abstract: Intelligent technologies are increasingly used to evaluate and monitor performance through implementing specific metrics such as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Recently, scholars have called to better engage with intelligent technologies specific features and their production process, which otherwise remain black-boxed. We aim at developing greater insights into how practices enacted by different end-user's shape and reshape the production of KPIs in technological change initiatives. This research employs a critical, process oriented and performative view of power to emphasise both its negative and productive effects. We highlight the pursuing (push)-withdrawing (pull) dynamics which lie in iterative and recursive acts of power and resistance involving a range of actors who collectively, albeit inadvertently and differently, change the meanings technological outcomes perform. Finally, we show that technologies that might initially seem to fail can 'take off' through persistent and positive power effects. Collapse

Abstract: With the increased focus on responding to climate change by accelerating a transition to a low carbon energy system, differing views remain on the combination of energy technologies that will best achieve this goal. Identifying technological pathways is complicated by wide uncertainties in economic and technological factors. Analyses that neglect these uncertainties can produce pathways for a low carbon energy future that are highly granular and specific, but which are based on a particular assumption about future conditions and imply a need to make specific technology commitments over a long period of time. We frame the energy transition problem as the identification of one near-term investment strategy that is flexible across a wide range of possible future costs, followed by many alternative subsequent investment plans, each of which responds to realized future costs to achieve an aggressive emissions reduction target. Using an example of planning a low carbon power system under uncertainty, we demonstrate the option value of not ruling out some energy technologies in the near-term. Collapse

Abstract: Motivated by prior inconclusive findings on the effectiveness of open innovation initiatives in generating busi­ ness value and the complexity of open innovation, this study draws on the IT-enabled organizational capabilities perspective to propose that the mobilization of information technology (IT) resources can positively affect the development of open innovation initiatives and, in turn, improve firms' open innovation performance. Our empirical analysis of >1100 large Spanish firms confirms that firms' IT resource investments positively impact the development and execution of open innovation initiatives, which in turn improves firms' open innovation performance in terms of product and process innovations. This research contributes to the business value of IT and to Information Systems (IS) research on open innovation by evidencing the enabling role of IT investment in achieving open innovation performance gains. Abstract: This study examines the literary corpus on the role and potential of blockchain technology in promoting gender equality through the lens of new technology-oriented corporate governance models. It investigates if and how corporate governance models can include blockchain technology to add value to gender equality and inclusion processes, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5. A bibliometric analysis of a database—containing 127 articles, 4 United Nations reports, 3 European institutions’ reports, 1 International Labour Office report, 1 World Economic Forum report, and 4 industry reports useful to our analysis—was conducted from 1990 to 2021, to provide a map of the knowledge generated and circulated by the literature. This study offers insights into publication activities, essential topics, citation trends, and the status of collaborations between contributors to previous research and aggregated contributions to the area of blockchain technology studies. Furthermore, the study offers a retrospective analysis of the content published in the blockchain technology field. The findings indicate that field research has focussed primarily on blockchain’s economic and financial attributes but not on social potential. This study emphasises the implementation of blockchain technology to manage gender equality and inclusion processes by orienting corporate governance models towards social and sustainable values. Abstract: With technology increasingly being at the forefront of value generation for firms, organizations turn their attention to procuring IT assets as they leverage their resources strategically to derive value from their investments. While past efforts have traditionally focused on evaluating IT investments' impact on firm value and performance, recent work has sought to understand organizations' IT investment choices and, saliently, their commitment to IT investment plans by evaluating firms' realized IT spending in light of past investment plans. Acknowledging that organizations' engagement in real earnings management has been recognized as a driver of commitment to IT investment plans, we propose an extension of recent work by evaluating the effect of macroeconomic forces on this relationship, namely, technology shocks. We aim to shed light on the impact of emerging technologies on organizations' IT investment choices and increase our understanding of their commitment to investment plans by considering external forces. Abstract: The Metaverse has become a buzz-phrase among tech businesses. Facebook’s rebranding to Meta is symptomatic of this. Many firms and other actors are trying to shape visions of the Metaverse, leading to confusion about the term’s meaning. We use social construction of technology (SCOT) theory to disentangle the conflicting notions proposing that what the Metaverse is and will become relies on the collective sensemaking processes. We point out similarities and differences between various concepts presented in the public media and link them to individual actors’ monetary, political, or social motives. We describe the tensions that occur because of the conflicting interests. As the Metaverse is an emerging phenomenon, opportunities exist to reorient it toward humanist values rather than singular interests. However, the complexity of the social processes that shape the Metaverse requires a considerate approach rather than premature conclusions about the Metaverse’s characteristics. The analysis presents the Metaverse as a new, continually evolving sociotechnical phenomenon, and calls for research that explores it as a dynamic, moving target. Collapse

Abstract: This research aims to investigate the impact of social media marketing activities (SMMa) on brand loyalty directly and through mediating variables community engagement and lovemark. To propose a research model, we used the theories including lovemark theory, engagement theory and brand equity theory. As a result, this research investigates the impact of SMMa, community engagement, and lovemark on brand loyalty. Using an online survey, we collected data from 464 female participants who are following luxury fashion brands on major social networking sites including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter. Results using PLS revealed that SMMa positively influences community engagement and lovemark. Moreover, we find positive relationships between community engagement, lovemark and brand loyalty. However, we find that SMMa has no direct influence on brand loyalty. Collapse

Abstract: The aim of this systematic literature review (SLR) is to explore how Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) digital technologies are transforming the healthcare sector. Peer-reviewed, full-text research papers published between January 2016 and April 2021, which focused on data-driven healthcare, health data management systems, and the disruptive role of digital technologies in healthcare were retrieved from three electronic databases, namely PubMed Central, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and MEDLINE. Articles included in the SLR were identified and selected using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guideline. Three main themes were identified from 84 research papers included in the SLR, namely, (i) digital technologies driving the transformation of healthcare, (ii) the impact of digital transformation on healthcare, and (iii) areas of transformation in healthcare. The results showed that technological innovations can mitigate the impact of unequal distribution of healthcare services, reduce healthcare costs, improve the quality of care, and the quality of life for patients and healthcare professionals. Abstract: Within the domain of Information Systems, assumptions around sociotechnical change cohesively build on establishing a stable and balanced relationship between the social and technical structures. When these structures become too rigid, revolutionary moments that punctuate the status quo are required for the structures to accommodate to a new situation. Approaching sociotechnical change with “punctuation of equilibrium” is becoming increasingly ineffective. In line with rising instability and rapid digital development, we argue that new sociotechnical change approaches are needed. In this paper we investigate how individual knowledge workers respond to the increasingly complex challenges they face when orchestrating social and technical structures to support efficient and creative knowledge work. We suggest a new perspective that covers an unstable equilibrium emerging from the interplay between individuals and their usage of “the collection of rigid and flexible workplace technologies”. Our study is based on data from interviews made with 40 knowledge professionals over a period of three years, inquiring into individual experiences with sociotechnical change. Our study reveals contradictory patterns of both technological-individualisation and -socialisation. A universal generative mechanism emerges when these patterns complement each other and generates continuous change that seems to diminish inertia from rigid structures while also intensifying agile responses. Abstract: Recent financial technologies have enabled fast payments and are reshaping retail payment and settlement systems globally. We developed an analytical model to study the optimal design of a new retail payment system in terms of settlement speed and system capability under both bank and fintech firm heterogeneous participation incentives. We found that three types of payment systems emerge as equilibrium outcomes: batch retail (BR), expedited retail (ER), and real-time retail (RR) payment systems. Although the base value of the payment service positively affects both settlement speed and system capability, the expected liquidity cost negatively impacts settlement speed, and total transaction volume and technological effectiveness positively impact system capability. We identified three leadership strategies to maximize social welfare: the government mandate (GM) strategy, the fintech-inclusive (FI) strategy, and the fintech-exclusive and bank-exclusive (FE+BE) strategy. When the base value of the payment service is either low or high, the GM strategy leads to a socially optimal unified system. When the base value of the payment service is in the intermediate range, and if fintech firms have a significant technological advantage over banks, then both GM and FI strategies result in a socially optimal unified system; otherwise, the FE+BE strategy results in a socially optimal fragmented system. Further, we proposed a Shapley-value-based cost-sharing rule under the GM strategy to fairly allocate social welfare among the system participants. Our findings offer important policy insights into the optimal system designs, leadership strategies, and the government regulator's role in shaping future innovations in the payments industry.
