Abstract: Recent research has mostly examined the role of health communication technology (HCT) in patient empowerment and in producing patient-focused outcomes. This study examines HCT in a larger context where it is used as a tool to improve public health. The objective is to examine how HCT is used to monitor Covid-19's spread, and how social factors affect individual assessment of HCT and individual compliance disposition of Covid-19 guidelines. Analyzing data collected from 360 HCT users suggests that the information and system quality of HCT indeed impact users' assessment of its effectiveness and their compliance disposition. However, such effects are strongly mediated by social factors: Peer influence and government trust can sway an individual's cognitive judgments of Covid-19 regardless of HCT's impacts. The findings highlight the importance of social factors in pandemic management and the need to socialize health informatics to make them more effective. Collapse

Abstract: We study how user feedback affects innovation of multihomed applications within and across platform ecosystems. Therefore, we conduct a quantitative NLP based case study. Our sample consists of 10 multihomed applications with more than 325,000 user reviews on Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android platform between January and March 2021. We analyze how user reviews translate into functional feature releases of the selected applications within and across platforms. We report three findings. First, we find that about 61% of the functional feature improvements on both platforms were previously demanded by users in the form of user feedback. Second, we show that user feedback of iOS users is more likely to be incorporated compared to Android users’ feedback. Finally, we observe that about 10% of feature releases are inspired by cross-platform feedback, providing initial evidence that user feedback from multihoming applications might stimulate cross-platform innovation and enhance the applications’ quality and innovativeness. Abstract: Monitoring is applied in time-and-materials and revenue-sharing contracts to address the issue of non­ observability of vendor’s development effort in software outsourcing. We establish a stylized model to investi­ gate the impacts of monitoring on the client’s contract choice. Under the exogenous monitoring level, the client’s contract choice depends on its bargaining power in the negotiation of revenue-sharing. Under the endogenous monitoring level, a time-and-materials contract becomes preferable. Although revenue-sharing contract in­ centivizes more vendor’s effort, it also pushes the vendor to inflate the effort, leading to a higher monitoring level. Finally, the benefit of the stronger effort is dominated by the higher monitoring cost. Collapse

Abstract: The literature proves that the implementation of Accounting Information Systems (AIS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in Small and Medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) positively affects their performance. As to the systems offered in cloud computing, the previous research mainly focused on the benefits of choosing such a solution, eliminating many barriers in SMEs in the case of traditional onpremise solutions. In Poland, studies into Cloud-based AIS or Cloud ERP have not been previously described in scientific research. This article presents the results of an empirical study of 35 Polish SMEs running their accounts. The thematic scope went beyond the issues examined so far and included the dominant data processing models, types of AIS systems, the use of AIS to perform accounting functions, and the integration of functional areas with the accounting system. The main results indicate that in the surveyed SMEs: 1) cloud computing (CC) is the dominant model of data processing, 2) slightly more companies use stand-alone AIS than integrated ERP systems, 3) AIS is not used to perform all important accounting functions, and 4) most often the accounting system is integrated with the purchasing and sales system and the fixed assets system, and less frequently with the payroll and production service systems. Gamification is an approach that aims to influence users' behavior by satisfying their needs, resulting in increased motivation. Abstract: As information systems become increasingly complex, software testing is being recognized as a key element in this process. However, organizations continue to encounter challenges in effectively implementing and executing testing procedures, highlighting the persisting difficulty arising from a lack of knowledge and awareness. Thus, it is crucial to understand the challenges related to software testing to point out educational needs in software testing. To gain a comprehensive understanding of the current challenges related to software testing, this study conducted an empirical cross-sectional interview study with 23 experts. Additionally, a literature review was conducted to investigate if there are any discrepancies or similarities between the current challenges identified in academic research and industry, emphasizing relevant educational needs in software testing. The software testing life cycle was utilized as a framework to systematically present the results. Abstract: With the rising popularity of voice assistants like Alexa, Siri, etc., understanding the service gaps experienced by customers has become imperative. In unison, limited studies are focusing on the perspectives of dissatisfied customers. This research aims to address this gap by suggesting the antecedents of technology irritation and its impact on the overall performance of voice assistants. The study uses a mixed-methods approach by analyzing the data gathered from user interviews, online reviews from users, and also empirical surveys. The qualitative study, capturing both etic and emic perspectives, found problems related to responsiveness, usability, platform, connectivity, and compatibility of VAs. While the empirical study revealed that utility gratification and service quality have a significant impact on technology irritation. The findings also show that customers from negative high and low arousal emotion groups have varying perceptions about utility gratifications. Collapse

Abstract: Cyberattacks can be considered one of the fundamental challenges that paralyze the progress of digital payment usage (DPU) progress among citizens, as consumers shun away from using digital banking services due to increased concern over information security. National Cybersecurity Commitment (NCSC) has emerged as a preventive cybersecurity mechanism for countries to tackle such cybersecurity threats. Previous studies have shown that a country's NCSC positively impacts the business and economy of the country. This study examines the effect of NCSC on digital payment usage (DPU) across nations by grounding our discussion on the institutional trust theory. As trusting belief in security measures is a culturally embedded characteristic, we also examine the moderating role of national culture through Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. We use multilevel models to analyze publicly available archives of repeated cross-sectional data covering 76 countries to test the proposed relationships. Our findings indicate that NCSC has a positive influence on DPU. Further, our results highlight that the relationship between NCSC and DPU in a country is contingent on cultural dimensions. Overall, the evidence suggests that a competent cybersecurity environment compatible with cultural values can influence the speedy diffusion of digital payments in a country. Abstract: Medical AI technologies promise to empower their users in managing their health. We develop a research model aiming to explain the role of user empowerment and resistance on users' continuous use intention of medical AI technologies. The model was tested with data from 306 users of the Left-Hand Doctor self-diagnosis chatbot in China. The analyses indicate that users value the emotional support, responsiveness and accessibility of the chatbot. These features provide a strong explanation of user empowerment which in turn supports continuous use intention. While resistance to medical AI technologies negatively affects continuous use intention, it does not weaken the positive effects of empowerment. The research contributes to our knowledge of what user empowerment means and how it can support sustainable engagement with medical AI technologies. It further guides developers to more comprehensively consider similar user experience elements and positive outcomes of AI technologies in other application areas. Collapse

Abstract: As consumers increasingly engage in online brand communities, the demand of brand-related activities (e.g., finding relevant product information and sharing product information) also increases. Consumers may feel overwhelmed by these brand-related activities. To provide an understanding of this phenomenon, we concep­ tualize it as brand overload and then empirically examine its antecedents and consequences based upon the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) framework in the context of online brand community. Using two rounds of surveys to collect data from 409 American consumers, our results show that consumer-generated content and social interaction quality are the primary drivers of information and social overload. Consumer-generated content quality has a quadratic effect on information overload following an inverted U shape. Social interac­ tion quality also significantly affects social overload following an inverted U-shaped relationship. Information and social overload are both positively related to brand overload, which in turn leads to brand disloyalty as the negative consequence. In addition, to supplement the quantitative study, a qualitative study was used to test and substantiate the proposed research model. With its mixed-method design, our study contributes to the literature by proposing the concept of brand overload and empirically investigating its antecedents and consequences from the SOR perspective. Practically, our study delivers insights for companies on how to use online brand com­ munities strategically and efficiently to avoid negative impacts. Collapse
