Abstract: Food safety is a public health issue of paramount importance. In this regard, blockchain has emerged as a promising technology that allows users to effectively and efficiently record the origin and flow of products and eliminate or reduce harmful food fraud. Consumers can benefit from this development by receiving up-to-date and verifiable information about the origins and delivery routes of their purchases. Drawing on signaling the­ ory and the results of two experimental studies with 151 and 152 participants, respectively, we investigate how the use of blockchain to trace food products impacts consumers’ perception of product quality as a mediating variable and subsequently their purchase intention. Our framework further considers brand familiarity as a moderating variable. The findings from the two experiments show that blockchain labels as a signaling mech­ anism in food supply chains help to strengthen consumers’ perceived quality of food products, which, in turn, increases their purchase intention. This effect is more pronounced for less familiar brands, which is valuable information for managers who want to build a brand’s reputation. From an academic perspective, we highlight the applicability of signaling theory to identify blockchain-based traceability systems as important drivers of perceived product quality and consequently purchase intention. Abstract: This paper investigates the role of managers' behavioural features on Blockchain Technology (BCT) appropriation within an online scenario-based behavioural experiment. At the intersection betweenManagement of Information Systems and Experimental Economics, the scenario describes a BCT setup as a new governance mechanism facilitating data sharing among organisations. The experiment involves BCT experts who performed two different Public Good Games (PGG): the first, reflecting a traditional data sharing system while the second was concerned with an exogenous minimum contribution level representing a BCT-based system. Results reveal that experts' beliefs play a positive role in BCT early appropriation at an ecosystem level. When BCT-based data-sharing is established, and information about others' cooperation is available, early appropriation level still affects the managers' contribution and relative appropriation, moderating the role of behavioural features, such as beliefs and generalised trust.1 Xceed project is an inter-organisational collaborative project around connected vehicles involving Renault Group and its major automotive industry partners like Continental, Faurecia, Plastic Omnium, Saint-Gobain. The project aims to adopt a distributed ledger as a unique "source of truth" from vehicle design to production -XCEED project launched in 2019. A blockchain-based record-keeping would provide reliable information on each subcomponent that boosts regulatory conformity in the automotive industry. The distributed ledger is seen as the basis for a trusted network for sharing data and information. This project significantly inspired the design of our experiment. In fact, it exemplifies a BCT consortium which, contrarily to private blockchains, operates under the leadership of a group of entities allowing collaborative business transformation among organizations (Dib et a., 2018). In our context, the consortium structure helps newly arrived organizations in a BCT ecosystem to directly share information and to help all participants to find solutions together and save development costs. Abstract: Building on the resource orchestration view, we proposed a dual role of information technology (IT) in the form of IT-enabled resource acquisition (IRA) and IT-enabled resource operation (IRO) in determining innovation performance. Through analyzing the survey data from 235 organizations, we found that in a dynamic business environment, IRA assists organizations in accruing benefits from their open innovation (OI) strategies. In a less dynamic business environment, IRO enhances the impact of OI strategies on innovation performance, whereas IRA diminishes such an impact. Post-hoc interviews reveal further insights into how organizations utilize ITs (IRA and IRO) to obtain innovation benefits. Collapse

Abstract: This study investigates the importance of the determinants affecting the adoption and usage of blockchain-based SCM systems in the context of organizations. Hence, an SLR method was followed to uncover critical determinants in the literature. Then, a research model, including 14 key determinants, was developed based on the TOE Framework. Subsequently, the AHP method was applied to rank the adoption determinants. Abstract: Performance impacts of investments in information technologies (ITs) are difficult to evaluate. External investors are further constrained by their lack of visibility into the firm’s intangible, complementary actions and capabilities, creating an information asymmetry between them and the firm’s executives. Building on signaling theory and the research on senior executives’ trades in a firm’s stock, this paper addresses the following question: How are the stock trades by a firm’s senior executives before a major IT investment by the firm associated with the future value to the firm from that IT investment? The results based on data on 2,898 publicly announced IT investments from 926 firms during 2002–2016 suggest that (1) the purchasing of a firm’s stock by its senior executives before a firm’s IT investment is associated with the investment’s longterm effect on firm value; (2) such stock purchases by a firm’s senior executives are associated with a stronger positive (negative) relationship between the IT’s newness and the long-term abnormal returns to firms emphasizing a revenue enhancement (cost reduction) IT strategy; (3) for firms pursuing a hybrid strategy, purchases by CIOs but not purchases by CEOs or the newness of IT are associated with firm value, and (4) purchases made by CIOs provide greater information about the IT investment’s impact on firm value than purchases made by CEOs. We further improve our predictive model’s accuracy from 75% for a model including the fit between IT newness and IT strategy to 80% and 91% when considering purchases by CEOs or CIOs, respectively, and 92% when considering purchases by both executives. Abstract: Infobesity is a condition whereby firms collect more information than they need or more information than they can efficiently use. As both incumbent firms and new entrant firms face different information-rich technological and economic environments, they are at a greater risk of infobesity which can compromise their innovation outcomes. In this study we leverage a research design that integrates inductive analytics and abductive discovery to uncover how incumbent and new-entrant firms leverage Business Intelligence systems and digital collaboration activities to innovate in the face of infobesity. We find that new entrant firms encounter a threshold effect governed by the use of BI systems to filter information from their customer network. On the other hand, we found that while most incumbents are able to innovate, there are uninventive incumbents that are unable to develop new products when they deploy only moderate levels of BI systems to filter their supplier data. While recent studies have begun to unravel the antecedents of infobesity in organizations, there is a need to examine the relationship between the frequency and the degree of experiencing infobesity originating from enterprise systems. We use a research design that integrates inductive analytics and abductive discovery to uncover the interaction of multi-level antecedents of infobesity and conclude that the rate at which firms encounter infobesity drives the perception of the intensity at which the overload will be experienced. Abstract: A firm's use of boundary-spanning information systems (BSIS) can be beneficial for innovation by providing access to market-facing information. At the same time, BSIS use can give rise to information overload, making it difficult for firms to leverage the most pertinent information for innovation. Although there has been progress in developing the understanding of the role of IS in innovation, it is unclear what capabilities firms need to develop to facilitate innovation in the presence of information overload from BSIS (IO-BSIS). We maintain that firms are increasingly experiencing IO-BSIS and therefore a thorough investigation of firm-level capabilities to facilitate innovation while coping with IO-BSIS is needed. To address this important gap, we broaden the theory of problemistic search for innovation by proposing a digitally enabled collaborative problemistic search (CPS) capability. We propose that a cross-stream CPS effect-the interaction of CPS with customers (CPS-C) and CPS with suppliers (CPS-S)-can enable firms to reinvigorate their internal knowledge for innovation by engaging customers and suppliers in filtering and interpreting market-facing information. Further, we theorize that the presence or absence of IO-BSIS is a contingency factor that affects whether the cross-stream CPS effect is likely to be beneficial or detrimental to innovation. Based on the analysis of data collected from 227 firms, we find that the crossstream CPS effect is beneficial for innovation when firms face IO-BSIS and detrimental to innovation when firms do not experience IO-BSIS. We thus open the black box of the digitally enabled innovation activity by shedding light on specific collaborative activities that advance innovation while enabling firms to cope with information overload.[The] real design problem is not to provide more information to people but to allocate the time they have available for receiving information so that they will get only the information that is most important and relevant to the decisions they will make. Abstract: The smart contract technology has increasingly attracted the attention of different industries. However, a significant number of smart contracts deployed in practice suffer from several bugs, which enable malicious users to cause damage. The research community has shifted their focus to verifying the correctness of smart contracts using model checkers and formal verification methods. The majority of the research investigates the correctness of systems built on one smart contract. This paper proposes a verification approach for systems composed of interacting smart contracts developed and controlled by different entities. We use the NuSMV model checker and the Behavioral Interaction Priority tool to model the behaviors of smart contracts and their interactions with the aim of verifying their compliance with the systems’ functional requirements. These requirements are formalized by Linear Temporal Logic propositions. The applicability of our approach is illustrated using a case study from The American Petroleum Institute and implemented using Hyperledger Fabric. Collapse
