Abstract: During the Covid-19 pandemic, the shift to high-intensity remote work—three days or more a week—accelerated the digitalization of work processes on platforms such as Slack or Teams and the blurring of boundaries between work and personal life through videoconferencing and the use of personal devices for work. This paper explores the relationships between high-intensity remote workers’ information and communication technologies (ICT) privacy concerns, psychological climate for face time, and organizational affective commitment. Building on organizational support and social information processing theories, we argue that ICT privacy concerns and perceptions that an organization values physical presence in-office may undermine commitment to the organization. Based on a two-wave study of 1065 remote workers in a large multinational bank, we find that ICT privacy concerns and psychological climate for face time reinforce one another and are negatively associated with subsequent affective organizational commitment. Abstract: Despite the significant advancements made in understanding the factors that drive employees' compliance and noncompliance behaviours with information security policy (ISP), less is known about how different factors interact to impact such behaviours. Having been drawn on the social information processing theory, this research develops an integrative model that investigates how ethical work climate, beliefs, and neutralization interact to jointly explain ISP noncompliance. The model is tested via a survey of a broad cross section of employees. Neutralization, perceived cost of compliance, and perceived cost of noncompliance are found to significantly impact ISP noncompliance. Egoistic, benevolent, and principled climates are found to differentially influence neutralization and individuals' cognitive beliefs about the cost and benefit of ISP compliance versus noncompliance. Neutralization appears to be a more important moderator of the belief-noncompliance relationship than the principled climate. Collapse

Abstract: Shadow information technology (IT) usage and justifications, which make shadow IT usage socially acceptable, are major challenges for managers. This study contributes to a better understanding of both the concepts. The results show significant differences between shadow IT users and nonusers in the degree to which they accept justifications in light of IT constraints, in particular, in the situational factors driving this acceptance. While perceived noncompliance of others influences shadow IT users’ acceptance of justifications, nonusers accept justifications of noncompliant fellows if they expect benefits of shadow IT usage. New implications for managers are provided with the aim of reducing shadow IT usage. Collapse

Abstract: The past few years have witnessed growing governmental interest in engaging citizens through social media. With this interest comes a genuine need to understand the process and outcomes of government–citizen interactions. Therefore, this article seeks to address this important issue by proposing and validating a SocioCitizenry theory that depicts government–citizen interaction through social media. The present study uses data gathered through two field surveys and analyses the relationships among three main SocioCitizenry constructs: quality anticipation, trust configuration, and approved adaptation. The following factors are examined with respect to the aforementioned three constructs: differential influences of familiarity with social media and government services; perceived importance of interactions with government services; social media quality reputation; and family members’ and friends’ perceptions of social media quality. Overall, results show that anticipated governmental social media quality influences configured trust, which in turn influences the extent of approved adaptation. The implications of these results in research and practice are discussed. Collapse

Abstract: Despite the impressive scale of growth in Electronic Health Record (EHR) platform implementation across healthcare organizations, appropriating benefits from such transformative digital artifacts remain a complex and challenging process. While significant focus of academics and policy makers on preimplementation stages of EHR integration, little or insignificant focus has been on the critical phase of post-implementation EHR assimilation. The post-implementation stage of EHRs is a critical stage because it is in this phase that EHR users stabilize the usage behavior and pattern into their care delivery routine. This phase involves the process of understanding how a set or subset of process functionalities can be fit and adapted into the immediate healthcare task environment. The post-implementation stage consists of extensive interactions and exchange of information among the stakeholders as they learn to adapt and innovate the platform to the needs of their healthcare tasks associated with the care delivery process. Abstract: Using literature from impression formation and social information processing theory, we examine the impact of communication style on impression formation and durability in a mediated environment. We leverage common writing styles found in workplace emails--emoticons, uppercase, lowercase, typographical errors--to examine how message receivers evaluate senders using these styles. Via a lab experiment with 748 subjects, including undergraduate students, graduate students, and working professionals, we found that impressions were associated with writing style beyond the email content. Receivers perceived senders of emails containing emoticons, errors, or written entirely in uppercase or lowercase as less functionally competent. They also perceived senders as less methodologically competent when emails used emoticons and less politically competent when emails were all lowercase or contained errors. They perceived senders using a neutral writing style as less sociable than senders using emoticons. In contrast to impression durability in face-to-face environments, receivers positively revised impressions when senders changed their style to neutral from any of the non-neutral styles. We attribute this difference to two characteristics of the IT artifact: symbol variety and reprocessability. Collapse

Abstract: We investigate how public administrations can influence citizens’ continued usage of public e-services and focus on the role of different trust elements. We review prior literature and derive a model of trust transfer and continued usage. Our results show that trust in the public e-service mediates the influence of both trust in the public administration and trust in the Internet on continuance intentions. Trust was influenced by e-service quality and recommendations from public administrations and interpersonal sources. The relationship between interpersonal recommendations and trust in the e-service was non-significant; we found a strong moderating influence of time consciousness. Collapse

Abstract: Motivated by recent practical observations of employees’ unapproved sourcing of cloud services at work, this study empirically evaluates bring your own cloud (BYOC) policies and social interactions of the IT department to sensitize employees’ security risk perception. Based on social information processing theory, BYOC strategies varying in the level of restriction from the obligatory, recommended, permitted, not regulated, to the prohibited usage of cloud services in the organization as well as social information including IT department’s policies, recommendations and responsiveness, are assessed according to their influence on employees’ perceived security risk to the organization. Results of a mixed-method approach containing expert interviews and survey data of 115 computer users in SME and large-scale enterprises analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and WarpPLS-SEM identify the organizational-wide prohibition of and IT department’s advices against the cloud service usage at the workplace as the most effective actions to guarantee the protection of the organizational IT assets. Abstract: Acritical omission in the coworker influence literature is how a coworker influences a closely related (focal) employee’s job performance behaviors and whether this influence is contingent on that coworker’s own behaviors. By integrating social information processing and social cognitive theories with social exchange and role theories, we hypothesize that there are, at least, three distinct types of coworker dyadic influence. Accordingly, we developed and tested a moderated mediation model to explicate such influence. Two multisource, field-design studies conducted in Hong Kong support the modeled relationships in that employee role ambiguity partially mediated the relationships between coworker–employee exchange and two types of employee job performance behaviors—task performance and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Furthermore, coworker OCB fostered employee job performance behavior both directly and interactively, acting as a moderator to weaken the relationships between employee role ambiguity and the two types of job performance behaviors. Abstract: Social commerce contributors share their experiences of products and services, which is appreciated by consumers and online retailers. Since such user generated content is especially valuable for online retailers, they incentivize the most active contributors to provide further product reviews. Our paper aims to explore the question of which user characteristics can be used to identify contributors of valuable contents. This is especially relevant for newly registered users who have not extensively contributed yet. Drawing upon the literature on social information processing, signaling and communication theory, we explore how individual user characteristics published in the personal user profiles are associated with the actual contribution activity. Therefore, we analyze more than 30,000 user profiles from amazon.com. We find that information disclosure, emotiveness and problem-orientation are related to the contribution activity. Consequently, our results advance the understanding of who are the most active contributors and provide new implications for theory and practice. Collapse
