Abstract: Despite the dominance of customer co-creation experience value (CCEV) in the value co-creation research, its theoretical domain has not been systematically analysed and developed. Specifically, little is known about the nature of social media-enabled CCEV. To address the knowledge gaps, this study employs a five-step procedure to develop a conceptualisation and instrument of CCEV construct in a social media context. First, drawing on the relevant literature, we determine the conceptual framework, definition, and assumptions of CCEV. Second, we employ grounded theory methodology to analyse customer review data from three representative social media sites and identify the dimensions of CCEV (four themes consisting of 10 dimensions). Third, we create an item pool of CCEV based on the prior work and in-depth interviews of 10 customers. In the fourth and fifth steps, we collect three waves of quantitative data to develop and validate the instrument including item refinement (n1 = 234), instrument validation (n2 = 521), and nomological validity examination (n3 = 615). The results indicate that the instrument exhibits satisfactory reliability and validity. Our work contributes to theory and practice by presenting a context-specific and fine-grained conceptualisation of CCEV and a reliable and valid survey instrument. Collapse

Abstract: In this paper, we confront a paradox in the IS literature that even though our field focuses on the rapid pace of technological change and the dramatic scale of technology-enabled organizational and societal changes, we sometimes find ourselves studying these changes using—largely without question—constructs that were developed in a vastly different IT, user, and organizational environment. We provide guidelines to help assess whether an existing construct warrants updating and to structure the updating task if it is undertaken. Our three-step process provides for a theoretically grounded and comprehensive method that ensures we balance the need for construct updating against the need to sustain our cumulative tradition. We illustrate our guidelines using computer self-efficacy (CSE) as a case study. We document each of the steps involved in analyzing, reconceptualizing, and testing the revised construct information technology self-efficacy (ITSE). Our analyses show that the new construct better explains both traditional and contemporary constructs with a traditional (postal survey) and contemporary (online panel) sample. We discuss the implications of our work both for research on self-efficacy and more broadly for future updating of other important constructs. Collapse

Abstract: Decision-making styles have been studied in non-situational settings using the classical survey instrument. This study proposes a novel methodology for identifying decision-making styles in a real-world purchasing situation using only behavioral data and machine learning. We base our analysis on a two-week sample of 1,347,854 clickstream sessions from an e-commerce company and extract a series of parameters to infer the search goal, strategy, and decision difficulty. We implement a range of unsupervised algorithms, and we identify and validate three internally stable classes of decision-makers. One category corresponds to the classical style of satisficers; the other two subcategorize the maximisers' classical style. The customer’s entry channel preferences and movement patterns provide compelling support for the style's predictive validity. This study contributes to research and practice by proposing a new methodology to recognize the customer decision style in the e-commerce setting. Collapse

Abstract: Although projects are regularly exposed to disruptive events, the literature lacks an effective measurement system for project resilience. This gap presents challenges for decision makers because of the consequent lack of quantitative information about the level of resilience and its impact on project performance throughout a pro­ ject's life. We argue that managers can be supported by a priori information about past similar projects as well as new data that evolve during disruption and recovery stages to enhance decision making by key project leaders, such as funders when approving new projects, project managers when developing the detailed plan, and project owners when approving corrective actions following a major disruption. Therefore, this paper develops a mathematical model to measure the level of project resilience by predicting disruption and recovery profiles based on past similar completed projects, as well as actual events unique to the project at hand. We illustrate and validate the model based on a portfolio of 43 major projects that faced disruptions from various sources. Our results provide the first empirical evidence to measure the impact of project resilience on the disruption and recovery behavior of real-life projects. The outputs of this research can be used as a decision support system that enables managers to make informed decisions throughout a project's life. Collapse

Abstract: This study seeks to investigate the effects of Behavioral Activation System (BAS), known as approach motivation, and Behavioral Inhibition System (BIS), known as avoidance motivation, that are expected to influence in­ dividuals’ post-adoption behaviors in gamified mobile applications. A survey-based research methodology was used, and the impacts of BAS and BIS on Information Systems Continuance are examined. The results show that reward responsiveness has the most significant effect on user satisfaction and continuance intention. Fun-seeking plays an essential role in continuance intention; however, it does not significantly affect satisfaction, as drive does not affect either satisfaction or continuance intention. BIS has a significant and negative effect on individual satisfaction, but no effects were found related to continuance intention. The findings of this study improve the understanding of the differences between these motivations related to Information Systems Continuance. Abstract: Researchers of decision-making and human–computer interactions have been concerned with the issue of action slips and the development of supportive functionalities to reduce the occurrence of the slips. However, it remains unclear how to measure slips in a decision-making context and how motivational factors can help to reduce action slips. In this study, we formulate the construct of execution discrepancy to represent an individual’s deviation from his/her planned actions and propose a self-regulatory model to explain the antecedents and consequences of this construct. The model specifies that self-efficacy exerts a positive influence on the reduction of execution discrepancy that, in turn, leads to enhanced decision performance. An experiment was conducted based on the multi-attribute decision paradigm, and decision-makers’ eye movements were tracked to measure their execution discrepancy. The results support our hypothesis that self-efficacy serves as an important moti­ vational factor to modulate cognitive efforts needed to reduce execution discrepancy during strategy execution. In addition to its theoretical and methodological contribution to the construct of execution discrepancy, this study may have essential implications for the design of technological artifacts that can predict and prevent possible action slips. Abstract: The prior studies on information disclosure in location-based services (LBS) suggested that the perceived benefits of information disclosure in LBS were manifested by three benefits, namely, locatability, personalization, and social benefits. The three benefits might affect information disclosure intention differently. As an extension, individual factors, such as gender, may affect the relationship. However, according to literature, little research has investigated on the combined influence of the three benefits on the information disclosure intention in LBS with the gender as a moderator. Based upon the self-determination and social role theories, this study intends to bridge the gap empirically. The hypotheses are largely supported by 215 respondents. Unexpectedly, the research findings show that for females, locatability and personalization are more important in predicting their infor­ mation disclosure intention, whereas for males, the social benefit has more of an impact on information disclosure intention, which is opposite to the hypotheses and convention. Furthermore, the research findings indicate that the behaviors of males and females may conform to the roles distributed within a society of this information age rather than to the personalities of the individuals. Abstract: A question of central importance for researchers and practitioners is how information technology (IT) can help firms survive and thrive in turbulent and constantly changing business environments. To address this issue, this study develops the idea that IT architecture flexibility helps sustain competitive performance by driving the formation of IT-enabled dynamic capabilities, and that IT governance decentralisation strengthens this relationship. IT architecture flexibility and IT governance decentralisation, therefore, develop complementary effects. We argue that IT-enabled dynamic capabilities are a core antecedent for competitive performance gains, particularly under uncertain external environmental conditions. Tests of the proposed model using survey data from 322 international firms support these ideas. Our research also shows that, under conditions of high environmental heterogeneity, the value of IT architecture flexibility and IT governance decentralisation is increased, while the impact of IT-enabled dynamic capabilities on competitive performance is amplified. Abstract: While prior research shows that an increase in IT support for business processes leads to high alignment and IT business value at the process-level, few studies have provided insights into the organizational-level benefits of cospecialization between IT and business processes. This paper extends prior treatments of the link between IT and business processes by developing a conceptualization and measure of business process IT cospecialization. Grounded in the cospecialization perspective in resource-based theory, this construct accounts for complementarities between IT and business processes and offers a new lens to explain how the benefits of IT at the process-level translate into improved organizational performance. Using data from a survey of IT executives and from secondary data sources, we validate an operational measure for business process IT cospecialization, demonstrate the predictive validity of the construct, and show that it has a stronger explanatory power than process-level IT alignment with respect to organizational performance. in the value chain (i.e., supplier relations, production and operations, product and service enhancement, sales and marketing, and customer relations) increases IT business value. By extending past studies on the impacts of IT at the firm level, these studies uncover performance implications for IT at the process level.However, extant literature on process-level IT alignment has largely focused on the role of IT as a support tool, i.e., somehow secondary or subservient to business processes that are critical to the success of the organization's business strategy (Tallon et al. 2016). Although this perspective has generated significant theoretical insights, it under-emphasizes complementarity effects arising from the cospecialization between IT capabilities and business processes. An assessment of IT support for business processes, which has long been a cornerstone of process-level IT alignment research (Coltman et al. 2015;Tallon 2008), is necessary but insufficient to explain the benefits of cospecialization between IT and business processes. With cospecialization, joint use of organizational assets is value enhancing and therefore it explicitly captures complementary relationships. For example, in their study of technology suppliers and buyers, Ceccagnoli and Jiang (2013) argue that the cospecialization between R&D processes and downstream activities in the buyers' industries creates value for buyers. According to the resource-based theory (RBT) (Ceccagnoli and Jiang 2013;Teece 1986;Tippins and Sohi 2003), cospecialization occurs when "the value of an asset is a function of its use in conjunction with other particular assets" (Teece 2007, p. 1338). Therefore, it captures complementarity effects that accrue when IT capabilities and business processes are co-dependent. 1The purpose of this study is to extend prior treatments of the link between IT and business processes, particularly to improve our understanding of how the impacts of IT cospecialization translate into increased organizational performance. This paper introduces business process IT cospecialization as a new construct that offers a theory-driven and forward-thinking approach to understand the value enhancing relationship between IT capabilities and business processes. To explain the benefits of IT cospecialization, this study addresses two research questions: "How can business process IT cospecialization be conceptualized and measured to capture complementarities between IT capabilities and primary processes in the value chain?" and "How does this construct compare with process-level IT alignment in its ability to explain organizational performance?"Drawing on the cospecialization perspective in RBT (Argyres et al. 2019;Ceccagnoli and Jiang 2013;Gans et al. 2002;Teece 1986), we develop a conceptualization of business process IT cospecialization that captures the two-way relationship between IT capabilities and business processes. We then operationalize this construct to measure the degree of IT cospecialization across primary business processes in the value chain. A value chain comprises key business functions that are strategically relevant and sources of differentiation among organizations (Tallon et al. 2016). Using data collected from 120 organizations, we empirically validate the measure of business process IT cospecialization, assess the predictive validity of the construct by examining its relationship with organizational performance, and examine how the construct compares with process-level IT alignment in its ability to explain organizational performance. This paper extends prior literature in two respects. First, it extends the research stream on process-level IT alignment by shifting the focus from increased IT support at the process level to how IT capabilities and business processes jointly create performance benefits. As a construct grounded in the cospecialization perspective in RBT, business process IT cospecialization emphasizes that combining IT capabilities with complementary business processes can be causally ambiguous to the extent that it is difficult for competitors to identify how IT generates value for the organization. Second, business process IT cospecialization offers a powerful lens to understand interrelatedness between IT capabilities and business processes and to explore how cospecialization at the process level influences organizational performance. We show that business process IT cospecialization has a stronger explanatory power than process-level IT alignment with respect to organizational performance. Lastly, we identify and discuss several opportunities for future research that builds on our conceptualization. Collapse
