Abstract: One of the ultimate goals for InfoSec research is to reduce employees' violations with Information Security Policies. Since insider threat remains the biggest issue in this area, preventing employees' noncompliant behaviors is still important. At the same time, we should not neglect or ignore research questions on how to encourage employees' compliant behaviors. There is a shortage of research that addresses positive outcomes and rewards in the context of InfoSec. The proposed study will import operant conditioning theory and use token economy as the behavioral management mechanism promoting employees' behaviors with Information Security Policies (ISP). We think that the gain frames and rewards will give employees a different reason to comply with ISP rather than eliminating fear or avoiding sanctions. Moreover, the inclusion of individual risk preferences can provide us possible explanations of why rewards and sanctions do not work consistently under the context of InfoSec. We believe that emphasizing on the positive outcomes and rewards can encourage more employees' compliant behaviors with ISP while reducing employees' noncompliant behaviors. Collapse

Abstract: Online agent bidding is seen as a win–win solution for both bidders and auctioneers in online auctions. However, it has not been as widely adopted as expected. Based on information systems (IS) habit literature, we developed the agent bidding habit and use model (ABHUM) to investigate the factors that influence bidders’ agent bidding use. We propose that perceived bidding agent effectiveness, agent bidding winning experience and bidder rationality are the antecedents of agent bidding habit. Together with perceived bidding agent effectiveness and bidder rationality, agent bidding habit also influences agent bidding use. The social presence of other agent bidders is a moderator in the model. We confirm our model in the context of Taobao, which is the largest electronic online market in China. Our research findings provide new insights for both researchers and practitioners in this field. Collapse

Abstract: Mobile technologies have dramatically increased the number of work-related interruptions. In many organizations, employees have to remain accessible and respond to these technology-mediated (T-M) interruptions even after regular work hours. Thus, demands from work interruptions might spill over into workers’ evening and family time, entailing role stress. Ultimately, workers might shy away from using the technologies they deem responsible, with negative impacts for organizations. At the same time, the workforce is ageing rapidly, and older workers might be even more susceptible to the negative impacts of interruptions than their younger counterparts. Hence, this research examines whether demands from T-M interruptions reduce IT use indirectly via workers’ experiences of role stress and whether this indirect effect depends on age such that it is stronger for older workers. Data collected from 121 younger and 124 older knowledge workers supported this idea. Implications for research and practice are discussed. Collapse

Abstract: This paper studies Facebook users’ learning-based attitude formation and the relationship between member attitude and self-disclosure. Through the theoretical lens of learning theories, we recognize the key antecedents to member attitude toward a social networking as stemming from classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and social learning-related factors. In addition, we explore the underlying process through which member attitude affects self-disclosure extent and theorize the mediating role of site usage rate on the relationship between attitude and self-disclosure extent. Analysis of 822 survey data results provides strong support for the role of learning theories in explaining Facebook members’ attitude development. The results also confirm a significant, partial mediating effect of site usage rate. A series of post-hoc analyses on gender difference further reveal that attitude formation mechanisms remain constant between male and female Facebook users; gender difference exists on the association between attitude and self-disclosure extent and the association between site usage rate and self-disclosure extent; and the mediating effect of site usage rate exists in male user group only. Our research, therefore, contributes to the literature on social networking sites, as well as providing behavioral analysis useful to the service providers of these sites. Collapse

Abstract: The goal of this study is to explore and analyze the effectiveness of a possible countermeasure to the so-called “cyberloafing” problem involving a technical solution of Internet filtering and monitoring. Through a multi-theoretical lens, we utilize operant conditioning and individuals’ psychological morals of procedural justice and social norms to study the effectiveness of this countermeasure in addressing the associated agency problem and in promoting compliance with an organization's Internet usage policies. We find that in addition to the blocking module, confirmation and quota modules of an Internet filtering and monitoring system can prevent shirking and promote better compliance through employee empowerment and attention resource replenishment.
