Abstract: The purpose of this research is to investigate patient motivation for adopting telemedicine services. A theoretical research model is utilized based on the Extended Valence Framework (EVF), which includes perceived trust, perceived risk, perceived benefit, and the intent to use telemedicine services. Additionally, three antecedents of trust and risk are included --perceived privacy, perceived security, and familiarity. Partial least squares (PLS) is used to test the research model. The results indicate a clear pathway to intent through perceived trust and perceived benefit. In addition, the antecedents perceived security and familiarity have significant relationships with perceived trust, but not with perceived risk. Perceived privacy has no significance. Overall, this research suggests that to increase telemedicine services usage, we should focus on security, familiarity, trust, and benefit. Collapse

Abstract: Machine learning (ML) analyses offer great potential to craft profound advice for augmenting managerial decision-making. Yet, even the most promising ML advice cannot improve decisionmaking if it is not utilized by decision makers. We therefore investigate how ML analyses influ­ ence decision makers’ utilization of advice and resulting decision-making performance. By analyzing data from 239 ML-supported decisions in real-world organizational scenarios, we demonstrate that decision makers’ utilization of ML advice depends on the information quality and transparency of ML advice as well as decision makers’ trust in data scientists’ competence. Furthermore, we find that decision makers’ utilization of ML advice can lead to improved decision-making performance, which is, however, moderated by the decision makers’ manage­ ment level. The study’s results can help organizations leverage ML advice to improve decisionmaking and promote the mutual consideration of technical and social aspects behind ML advice in research and practice as a basic requirement. Abstract: Contemporary well-known companies are making cross-disciplinary efforts to promote niche products outside the scope of their core businesses. However, little is known about the routine use of these niche products. Based on the theory of involvement, we proposed a research model and conducted an online survey regarding Apple Pay to validate the hypotheses. Several insights were obtained through empirical analysis. Specifically, (1) routine use can be affected by product involvement, which in turn is positively influenced by ideal selfcongruence and social influence, and (2) the effects of ideal self-congruence and social influence on product involvement are moderated by gender. Abstract: Voice commerce allows customers to carry out sales dialogues with voice assistants (VAs) through natural spoken language. However, its adoption remains limited. To help determine how to overcome existing barriers to adoption, we conducted a series of three empirical pre-studies and a laboratory experiment (N = 323) investigating the role of VAs' humanness in interactions with customers; research has reached no consensus on this matter. Our results reveal that humanizing VAs increases customers' perceptions of social presence and parasocial interaction, thereby enhancing perceived relationship quality and ultimately leading to increased intentions to shop using the VA. Although, we also find a negative direct effect of humanization on parasocial interaction, it is offset by the larger positive indirect effect via social presence. This may provide one explanation for the inconsistencies in the literature. For practitioners, our findings highlight the importance of careful design in humanizing VAs to increase voice commerce adoption. Collapse

Abstract: During the global financial crisis in 2008, trust in established financial intermediaries declined sharply. In reaction, blockchain technology was developed as an alternative system to facilitate financial transactions devoid of intermediaries. The application of blockchain in the financial sector brought a new paradigm called Decentralized Finance. Employing a modified technology acceptance model, our study aims at examining the relationship of distrust in financial intermediaries and consumer's behavioral intention to use Decentralized Finance. Even though this relationship is well-documented regarding the motivation of the development of blockchain technology, as well as in cases of unstable financial systems, empirical data from our survey research does not support this relationship in the context of consumer adoption. Our study contributes to the theory on the foundations of DeFi and the impact of blockchain technology, which must be revised by future research. Abstract: A question of central importance for researchers and practitioners is how information technology (IT) can help firms survive and thrive in turbulent and constantly changing business environments. To address this issue, this study develops the idea that IT architecture flexibility helps sustain competitive performance by driving the formation of IT-enabled dynamic capabilities, and that IT governance decentralisation strengthens this relationship. IT architecture flexibility and IT governance decentralisation, therefore, develop complementary effects. We argue that IT-enabled dynamic capabilities are a core antecedent for competitive performance gains, particularly under uncertain external environmental conditions. Tests of the proposed model using survey data from 322 international firms support these ideas. Our research also shows that, under conditions of high environmental heterogeneity, the value of IT architecture flexibility and IT governance decentralisation is increased, while the impact of IT-enabled dynamic capabilities on competitive performance is amplified. Abstract: A personal intelligent agent (PIA) is a system that acts intelligently to assist a human using natural language. Examples include Siri and Alexa. These agents are powerful computer programs that operate autonomously and proactively, learn and adapt to change, react to the environment, complete tasks within a favorable timeframe and communicate with the user using natural language to process commands and compose replies. PIAs are different from other systems previously explored in Information Systems (IS) due to their personalized, intelligent, and human-like behavior. Drawing on research in IS and Artificial Intelligence, we build and test a model of user adoption of PIAs leveraging their uique characteristics. Analysis of data collected from an interactive lab-based study for new PIA users confirms that both perceived intelligence and anthropomorphism are significant antecedents of PIA adoption. Our findings contribute to the understanding of a quickly-changing and fast-growing set of technologies that extend users’ capabilities and their sense of self​. Collapse

Abstract: Successfully introducing new technologies to employees remains a critical and challenging task for managers. Practitioner and academic research points to the crucial role of formal communi­ cation in the success of technology implementation. We developed a scale for measuring formal communication quality and assessed its influence using three samples of working professionals who were anticipating new technologies at work. Informed by the coping model of user adap­ tation, we examined the direct and indirect effects of formal communication quality during the anticipation stage of a technology implementation project on employees’ cognitions, emotions and intention to connect with colleagues in order to prepare themselves for the new technologies. The results validate our conceptualization of formal communication as a second-order formative construct with information quality in four content areas (i.e., what, how, why and when) as the first-order dimensions. Our findings affirm the role of formal communication as a managerial influence mechanism that positively affects an employee’s preliminary evaluation of a new IT during the anticipation stage. The evaluation of the new IT triggered emotions, and the emotions in turn motivated employees to seek opinions and camaraderie from others as a means of adapting to the new IT. Our post hoc analyses illustrate the dynamic nature of the relationship among formal communication quality, beliefs, emotions and coping intentions as the imple­ mentation unfolds. Our work contributes to the literature by improving the operationalization of formal communication quality, expanding the current understanding of seeking social support and revealing new insight about the temporal dynamics of the relationships in the nomological network during the anticipation stage. The validated scale of formal communication can be a useful tool for managers who wish to evaluate the effectiveness of their communication and to assess its impact on employees’ adaptation.
