Abstract: Recent industrial reports show an increased number of cybersecurity incidents, which inflict significant financial losses. Although organisations have been increasing their investments towards information security, incidents continue to occur. Most organisations adopt traditional linear incident response (IR) frameworks to prevent, detect, contain, eradicate and learn lessons from information security incidents. However, due to their rigidness, such linear frameworks are often ineffective. In this study, inspired by the Agile Manifesto, we propose the Agile IR Framework to refine, adjust, and improve the current linear IR process. We use the IR framework of UK’s National Health Service (NHS) as an illustrative case, critically analysing the current linear IR framework and demonstrating how it can be transformed into a hybrid IR framework. Using an illustrative case study from the healthcare domain, this study contributes to the incident response literature by showcasing how the integration of Agile principles in archetypical linear IR processes can improve incident response. Abstract: To reduce the supply of opioids to non-medical users in the U.S., many states have implemented Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs) to collect patients’ opioids purchase history and provide physicians this information. We study the impact of two PDMP-enhancement policies: 1) within-state IS integration, which aims to integrate a state’s PDMP into local hospitals’ health information technologies (HITs), and 2) interstates IS data sharing, which facilitates the interoperability of PDMP data across states line. We construct a county-level panel dataset from 2006 to 2017. First, we do not find evidence that PDMP integration could reduce the focal state’s regional opioids prescribing rate; instead, we find that a focal state's PDMP integration triggers doctor shopping phenomenon by increasing the opioids prescribing rate of counties located in neighboring states, suggesting the negative IT spillover effect. Second, we find nuanced evidence that PDMP interstate data sharing can mitigate this negative spillover effect, showing the positive information externality. Collapse

Abstract: In this paper, we develop a new perspective on configuration processes inherent to smart service systems that brings human actors to the theoretical foreground, is informed by practice theory, and is grounded in an intervention study of smart locating systems used in home care of persons with dementia. Maintaining control of the location of persons with dementia is a major source of caregiver burden, and assistive technologies such as smart locating systems hold the promise of enhancing quality of life and reducing caregiver burden. Drawing from research on smart service systems, organizational configuration research, and practice theory, we articulate a conceptual model of configuring in practice to explain how practice elements and the capabilities of smart technologies become mutually configured. Our analysis of study participants' experiences with the locating systems identified three distinctive configurations, characterized as enhanced smartness, degraded smartness, and fragile smartness, which developed through configuring processes. The configuring in practice model we develop here helps explain why unexpected and anticipated configurations develop and thus the conditions that facilitate or inhibit value cocreation in smart service systems. Abstract: The introduction of a new information technology (IT) into a workplace often engenders a wide range of responses among users. These responses encompass a variety of emotions, such as excitement, indifference, skepticism, and fear, and behaviors, such as user engagement, avoidance, and workarounds, that are often manifested concurrently in the same work environment. We present a taxonomy of these responses in the context of mandated IT use by classifying user responses as engaged, compliant, reluctant, or deviant. Using a coping theoretic lens, we offer seven propositions to describe the causal factors and processes that drive specific IT user responses and how such responses might change over time. A qualitative analysis of 47 interviews of 42 physicians at a large community hospital over an 8-year period provides support for our taxonomy and propositions. The study’s key contributions are that it conceptualizes different types of user responses that may emerge in mandatory IT use settings, elaborates the key drivers of and processes underlying these diverse responses, and suggests how those behaviors may change over time with changes in the coping process. Abstract: Smartphones, iPads, wearable technologies, etc. have widespread application to healthcare. Prior research often assumed that having access to broadband technologies relates to equity in access to health-related technologies. While some studies suggest that the Internet has led to more sedentary lifestyles, which in turn leads to health-related issues, other studies have established the positive influence of broadband technologies on creating healthier lifestyles. So far, paradoxical effects have been explained by taking time into account but still downplayed geographical factors. This research takes a spatial econometric approach to tease apart the contradictory results. Using a broad dataset, spanning every county in the United States, our analysis reveals the net effect of Internet access over time and its influence on the physical and mental wellbeing of socially advantaged and disadvantaged individuals, while considering the existence of digital inequity and health inequity. Our findings have implications for organizations when designing technology artifacts. Collapse

Further, it is important to understand the effect of the MyHealth Record on the patient-provider relationship, quality of care, and user’s views toward data security and confidentiality. Abstract: Intergenerational supportive climate, top management support, organizational institution are seen as three types of important organizational factors for intergenerational knowledge transfer (IGKT), however, current studies are qualitative with little empirical evidence, further, the interrelations of them are little known. This paper investigates and verifies their relationships by an empirical study, especially focuses on their differential effects on younger employees’ participation in IGKT using offline versus online communication methods drawing upon social influence theory. A survey with younger doctors was conducted in the medical industry to test the research model proposed in this study. Results show that younger employees’ perceived intergenerational supportive climate (PISC) has a significant positive influence on offline IGKT, but not on online IGKT; perceived top management support (PTMS) has a significant positive influence on offline IGKT, but has a negative impact on online IGKT; perceived organizational institution support (POIS) has a significant positive influence on online IGKT, but not on offline IGKT. These findings contribute to a more comprehensive understanding about IGKT, as well as help managers be more effective to enhance younger employees’ participation in IGKT through offline/ online methods, which contribute to offline and online intergenerational knowledge transfer to knowledge management. Abstract: Health-related personal information is very privacy-sensitive. Online privacy policies inform Website users about the ways their personal information is gathered, processed and stored. In the light of increasing privacy concerns, privacy policies seem to be an important mechanism for increasing customer loyalty. However, in practice, consumers only rarely read privacy policies, possibly due to the common assumption that policies are hard to read. By designing and implementing an automated extraction and readability analysis toolset, we present the first study that provides empirical evidence on readability of over 5,000 privacy policies of health websites and over 1,000 privacy policies of top e-commerce sites. Our results confirm the difficulty of reading current privacy policies. We further show that health websites’ policies are more readable than top e-commerce ones, but policies of non-commercial health websites are worse readable than commercial ones. Our study also provides a solid policy text corpus for further research. Collapse

Abstract: Spatio-temporal data analysis has recently gained considerable attention from both the research and practitioner communities because of the increasing availability of datasets with prominent spatial and temporal data elements. In this paper, we develop a new spatio-temporal data analysis approach aimed at discovering abnormal spatio-temporal clustering patterns. We also propose a quantitative evaluation framework and compare our approach against a widely used space–time scan statistic-based method under this framework. Our approach is based on a robust clustering engine using support vector machines and incorporates ideas from existing online surveillance methods to track incremental changes over time. Initial experimental results using both simulated and real-world datasets indicate that our approach is able to detect abnormal areas with irregular shapes more accurately than the space–time scan statistic-based method.
