Abstract: Digital transformation (DT) is a complex and dynamic phenomenon that requires a significant shift in organizational culture and mindset, necessitating new theoretical perspectives to understand the interactions between technology and people. This article conducts a critical literature review of the extant literature on DT, contrasting traditional Information Systems (IS) theories with assemblage theory. Assemblage theory provides a dynamic framework to analyze the various components of DT and their interactions, acknowledging the significance of power dynamics and politics in shaping the direction and outcomes of DT initiatives. This paper provides different theoretical perspectives in digital transformation literature by analyzing 70 articles published in premier IS journals. This article is helpful for scholars and practitioners interested in understanding the complexities of DT through assemblage theory perspectives. Collapse

Abstract: Propelled by digitalisation, crowd knowledge (CK) has gained popularity alongside a plurality of related crowd-based concepts (crowdsourcing, wisdom of crowds and collective intelligence), resulting in an inconsistent understanding of the terms and their application. Based on a structured literature review, we conceptualise CK and develop a formal definition, which is then evaluated using knowledge artefacts on different crowd-related platforms and differentiation criteria in relation to participants, context, purpose and process. The paper posits that CK is conceptually different from related concepts, due to its dynamic nature and its instantiation in the form of a CK knowledge artefact which requires a specific context and a unique knowledge-creation process. Furthermore, we discuss how the concept of CK and its associated artefact relates to established knowledge management concepts such as knowledge assets and the flow of CK in the epistemological differentiation of knowledge into tacit and explicit elements. The article contributes to the formal conceptualisation of crowd-based concepts and therefore improves understanding of existing implementations and supports the prudent design of future systems. Abstract: Using a longitudinal multisite case study research design, this study demonstrates how cloud computing helps to build knowledge ambidexterity (K-AMB) capabilities in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). A crosstheory approach is used to highlight the connections between ambidexterity and knowledge management the­ ories as a basis to explore the benefits of K-AMB capabilities for SMEs. The study investigates how the focus on knowledge exploitation by SMEs limits innovation which can be reconciled using cloud computing by creating multiple ambidextrous knowledge opportunities. In relation to cloud computing and knowledge ambidexterity, the study is the first to measure the effects of a temporal lag in the K-AMB processes resulting in enhanced employee-driven innovation. The results showed that over a 12-month period, employee-driven innovation was significantly amplified from the application of cloud computing that supported more sophisticated ambidextrous processes of knowledge management. The results significantly shift mindsets about the revelatory value of cloud computing to promote K-AMB in SMEs. We draw novel insights to the theory of ambidexterity by proposing that digital technologies and employee innovation contexts lie side-by-side and play an important role in building KAMB capabilities in SMEs. Abstract: Enterprise architecture is a collection of artifacts describing various aspects of an organization from an integrated business and IT perspective. Practicing enterprise architecture in organizations implies using these artifacts to facilitate information systems planning and improve business and IT alignment. Despite its long history, the enterprise architecture discipline still remains largely atheoretical and lacks a solid theoretical basis. Based on our previous empirical studies of the practical usage of enterprise architecture artifacts in multiple organizations and broad literature analysis, this conceptual article identifies and discusses in detail 10 theories that can be considered key for understanding how an enterprise architecture practice works: actor-network theory, boundary objects theory, cognitive fit theory, communities of practice theory, decision-making theories, information processing theory, knowledge management theory, management fashion theory, media richness theory, and uncertainty principle. Taken together, these theories offer a comprehensive theoretical view of an enterprise architecture practice explaining the role of enterprise architecture artifacts, their usability, and participation of stakeholders and, therefore, may constitute a theoretical basis of the entire enterprise architecture discipline. Although this article does not elaborate on any of these theories, it brings these theories to light, establishes their critical importance for comprehending an enterprise architecture practice, and positions them as central to the enterprise architecture discourse. Each of these theories can be leveraged by enterprise architecture scholars in their future studies for analyzing enterprise architecture practices through respective theoretical lenses. This article intends to provide fresh theoretical insights on enterprise architecture, spark new waves of theoretical enterprise architecture research, and contribute to the development of a sound theoretical foundation for the enterprise architecture discipline. Abstract: To better understand and apply knowledge reuse through knowledge flow when radical innovation is expected, we select an extremely important reuse knowledge industry, i.e., academic research field, and adopt the “spatiotemporal” perspective to analyze the principles and processes of knowledge reuse. We have divided knowledge reuse into four stages, namely, knowledge search, knowledge evaluation, knowledge recombination, and knowledge creation, thereby developing a knowledge reuse mechanism model centered on these stages. Abstract: By drawing on psychological contract theory, this study examined the effects of the dark triad of personality traits (Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy) on knowledge hiding within organizations. We obtained 251 matched-pair data from respondents in a manufacturing company. Results showed that all three dimensions of the dark triad were positively related to knowledge hiding through transactional psychological contract. Different dimensions of the dark triad were most strongly related to different knowledge hiding strategies. Furthermore, gender moderated the relationships between narcissism and psychopathy with transactional psychological contract. The indirect relationships between narcissism and psychopathy with knowledge hiding via transactional psychological contract were stronger for men than women. Collapse

Abstract: Nowadays, knowledge management systems are confronted with a variety and unprecedented amount of data, resulting from big data sources. A new generation of knowledge management systems for exploring and exploiting big data becomes a major need for organizations. For this reason, the paper proposes a novel service-oriented architecture for big data-driven knowledge management systems. The purpose of this research is to support organizations to leverage their knowledge-based assets for improving decisionmaking and facilitating organizational learning. The proposed architecture is based on the principles of design science research, including a set of constructs, a model and a method. The design evaluation is presented based on the analytical evaluation method. Abstract: Open innovation is increasingly important for researchers and practitioners alike. Open innovation is closely linked to knowledge creation in that, with open innovation, knowledge inflows and outflows are exploited for innovation. In the information systems field, open innovation has been closely linked to open source software development teams. However, the literature has not yet identified how open source software development teams use information technologies to create knowledge to bring about open innovation. This study fills in this gap by asking the following research questions: RQ1) How do innovative open source software development teams create knowledge?, and RQ2) What types of information technologies do innovative open source software development teams rely on for enabling knowledge creation? I answer these research questions with a revelatory case study. The findings contribute to the knowledge management theory by identifying how three of the four knowledge creation modes identified by Nonaka and Takeuchi (1995) manifest through different behaviors in the IT-enabled open innovation setting compared to behaviors observed in the organizational setting. The findings also contribute to information systems theory by identifying the role of information technologies in enabling knowledge creation for open innovation. This study further provides researchers and practitioners with ways of identifying knowledge creation by analyzing information technology artifacts, such as mailing lists, issue trackers, and software versioning tools.
