Abstract: The success of crowdsourcing (CS) systems depends on sustained participation, which is an ongoing challenge for the majority of CS providers. Unfortunately, participants are frequently demotivated by technical difficulties and the incorrect use of CS systems, which can result in CS failure. Although the literature generally assumes that sustained participation in CS is determined by a shift between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, the role of system-use practices in facilitating such a shift remains unknown. We explore how CS system-use practices influence participants' sustained motivation, evolving from initiation to progression to sustention. Using the notion of technology-in-practice as a lens, we develop and examine a process model using an in-depth case study of a large-scale ongoing CS project, the Australian Newspaper Digitisation Program. The findings suggest that CS participants' motivation is shaped by an evolving combination of three basic components (i.e., contextual condition, outcome and action intensity) and mediated by two types of system-use practice (i.e., passive and active). Passive-use practices facilitate sustaining motivation from initiation to progression, whereas active-use practices have a key role in sustention. Our study contributes to the emerging literature on the substantial role of system-use practices in sustaining motivation, resulting in sustained participation. The findings also offer actionable insights into improving the viability of CS systems in retaining and motivating continuous and increased contributions from participants. Collapse

Abstract: With the rise and integration of AI technologies within organizations, our understanding of the impact of this technology on individuals remains limited. Although the IS use literature provides important guidance for organization to increase employees' willingness to work with new technology, the utilitarian view of prior IS use research limits its application considering the new evolving social interaction between humans and AI agents. We contribute to the IS use literature by implementing a social view to understand the impact of AI agents on an individual's perception and behavior. By focusing on the main design dimensions of AI agents, we propose a framework that utilizes social psychology theories to explain the impact of those design dimensions on individuals. Specifically, we build on Similarity Attraction Theory to propose an AI similarity-continuance model that aims to explain how similarity with AI agents influence individuals' IT identity and intention to continue working with it. Through an online brainstorming experiment, we found that similarity with AI agents indeed has a positive impact on IT identity and on the intention to continue working with the AI agent. Collapse

Abstract: Technological breakthroughs, institutional disruptions, and natural disasters often alter the course of organizations and entire industries. Such discontinuous changes threaten organizations’ survival by affecting the value of the knowledge accumulated in routines and capabilities. Although it is widely acknowledged that managerial cognition is a critical antecedent of organizational responses to discontinuous change, the role of type 1 (intuitive) and type 2 (reflective) processing in the adaptation of shared patterns of behavior, that is, routines, remains understudied. Drawing on dual-process theory, we propose that particular features of type 1 processing render this approach superior to type 2 processing, especially in highly ambiguous environments in which information is limited and difficult to verify. We tested our hypotheses in a longitudinal experiment linking individual-level factors with organizational-level practices of routine adaptation. Experienced managers, paired in 80 groups, developed routines in a first round of a simulation game; in a second round, we then introduced a discontinuous change making previous routines obsolete in order to observe how they adapted. The data show that priming type 1 processing facilitates organizational adaptation more than type 2 processing by providing faster, more routinized, efficiently coordinated, and optimal responses. In addition, type 1 appears to be more functional in highly ambiguous environments, whereas type 1 and type 2 processes yield similar levels of performance under low levels of ambiguity. Abstract: There is a wide gender gap in developing countries due to a range of cultural, economic and political barriers. This is even more accentuated in post conflict economies in times of crisis. Smartphones and mobile applications can help to narrow this gap. The economic and non-economic challenges facing women entrepreneurs and the role of smartphone innovation in overcoming these challenges and developing strong marketing strategies were investigated. We drew on the 5 M model to investigate how mobile applications can support women entrepreneurs. We conducted thirty interviews with women entrepreneurs in Iraq. The findings show that mobile applications provided these entrepreneurs with innovative ways to overcome many of the challenges they face in relation to running a business. The research provides theoretical contributions by developing an integrated, multilevel analytical model on women in entrepreneurship based on extending the 5 M model with new technology-related elements. Practical, policy and managerial implications are discussed. Collapse

Abstract: Facing ever-looming climate change, studying the drivers for individuals ' Information Systems (IS) Use to reduce environmental harm gains momentum. While extant research on the antecedents of sustainable IS Use has focused on specific theories, interventions, contexts, and technologies, a holistic understanding has become increasingly elusive, with a synthesis remaining absent. We employ a systematic literature review methodology to shed light on the driving antecedents for sustainable IS Use among individual consumers. Our results build on findings of 29 empirical studies drawn from 598 articles retrieved from our premier outlets and a forward/backward search. The analysis reveals six salient complementary antecedents: Relief, Empowerment, Default, User-centricity, Salience, and Encouragement. We recommend considering these concepts when developing, deploying, promoting, or regulating digital technologies to mitigate individual consumers' emissions. Along with memorable and implementable concepts, our theoretical framework offers a novel conceptualization and four promising avenues for researchers on sustainable IS Use. Collapse

Abstract: Privacy leakage has become prevalent and severe with the increasing adoption of the internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and blockchain technologies. Such data-intensive systems are vulnerable to side-channel attacks in which hackers can extract sensitive information from a digital device without actively manipulating the target system. Nevertheless, there is a scarcity of IS research on how businesses can effectively detect and safeguard against side-channel attacks. This study adopts the design science paradigm and lays the groundwork for systematic inquiry into the assessment of privacy risks related to side-channels. In this paper, we a) highlight the privacy threats posed by side-channel attacks, b) propose a machine learning-driven design framework to identify side-channel privacy risks, and c) contribute to the literature on privacy analytics using machine learning techniques. Abstract: There is a broad consensus that social media platforms have become critical tools for policymakers in achieving various policy objectives in a country. Therefore, an in-depth understanding of the ICT-based country-level determinants of social media diffusion has become necessary. To this end, we propose a government-people-technology (GTP) framework for categorizing the ICT-based country-level determinants of social media diffusion into three dimensions. Using this framework and utilizing archival data from 107 countries, we examine the roles of ICT in the government's vision, ICT law maturity, Internet bandwidth, ICT cost, ICT skill, and capacity to own ICT in influencing social media diffusion. A quantile panel data regression results reveal that ICT in the government's vision, ICT law maturity, Internet bandwidth, and capacity to own ICT were positively associated with social media diffusion. In contrast, ICT cost was negatively associated with it. Thus, by offering a new framework, we contribute to the technology diffusion literature by emphasizing the role of government, people, and supportive technologies in driving social media diffusion at the country level. Abstract: In today's digital age, children are highly vulnerable to various cybersecurity threats, highlighting the importance of instilling good cyber hygiene. While several factors contribute to children's cyber hygiene, parents in particular play a crucial role. This study examines how parents influence their children's cyber hygiene. Drawing on role model theory and parental mediation theory, we propose that parental factors, such as their cyber hygiene practices, guidance through open conversations about online safety, restrictions on device and internet usage, and digital safety measures, can positively impact their children's cyber hygiene. We plan to use a mixed-methods design that includes semi-structured interviews and surveys to test our hypotheses. The findings of this study will contribute to the literature on cyber hygiene and aid in developing effective strategies to promote good cyber hygiene among children. Collapse
