Abstract: Existing studies have suggested that enterprise social media (ESM) may be especially appropriate in facilitating the initial formation of guanxi, while public social media (PSM) is more suited to driving guanxi development past the initial stage. However, the different patterns of social media use in the context of guanxi development, and the antecedent factors that give rise to those patterns are two salient issues that remain understudied. We conducted a case study with the aim of exploring these issues, which revealed six user archetypes representing the different ways that the use of ESM and PSM can be combined for guanxi development. In addition, we identify a range of antecedent factors that influence how ESM and PSM are used. The user archetypes identified not only constitute a conceptual innovation, but also advance the sophistication of the current perspective of social media use in the context of guanxi development. Abstract: An abundance of individual cases have explored and explained the Digital Transformation and, ultimately, proven its capability to create new value propositions. Moreover, various meta-studies have provided us with classifications and frameworks to synthesize existing knowledge on the topic. Yet, there is a lack of studies integrating industry-specific knowledge and providing orientation in the context of the relevant value-creation processes. Following a systematic literature search on Digital Transformation in the furniture industry, we analyse insights from 85 papers and suggest a theorydriven framework consisting of 5 focal areas: sources of disruption, strategic responses, value creation transformation, technical application, and obstacles to the implementation. Based on the framework, we structure and elaborate on the existing body of research and identify avenues for further research. Collapse

Abstract: Interorganizational information systems (IOIS) support inter-company processes in the German furniture industry for more than 25 years. Still, there are deficiencies in process integration and differences in IOIS infrastructures. New market participants struggle to adopt the right IOIS for their purposes. Current adoption models lack to understand and manage IOIS adoption on an industry level. Lyytinen and Damsgaard's configurational analysis for IOIS adoption considers enterprise networks as configurations of interorganizational integration that correspond to a stable pattern of cooperation forms. The configuration analysis is applied in the German furniture industry to identify and explain factors that influence an IOIS adoption decision and constitute stable IOIS configurations. Data collection in two industry segments shows four configuration types in 17 configurations characterized by 39 influencing factors. New market participants must consider the adoption of several IOIS at once in so-called nested configurations to gain access to all relevant exchange relations. Collapse

Abstract: Firms have made extensive use of interorganizational systems (IOSs) to share knowledge and pursue superior joint performance. Contemporary firms are using IOSs to collaborate widely across the value chain and in an ever-expanding geographic landscape. Thus, institutional distance, which is the difference between the firms’ respective institutional fields, has become a prominent challenge. In this study, we investigate the extent to which institutional distance affects IOS-enabled knowledge sharing and its impact on the joint performance of collaborating firms. We also explore the extent to which IOS adaptability could be a design solution for improving IOS-enabled knowledge sharing, given the challenge of institutional distance. Drawing on institutional theory, we propose that institutional distance, differentially influential via its normative, cognitive, and regulative aspects, not only reduces IOS-enabled knowledge sharing but also weakens the positive impact of such sharing on joint firm performance. Next, extending boundary object theory to the institutional context, we propose that IOS adaptability could be a solution to the challenge of institutional distance because it can directly strengthen IOS-enabled knowledge sharing as well as mitigate the negative effect of institutional distance on such sharing. Our hypotheses were tested through a field study that collected dyadic data from 141 distinct buyer/supplier channel relationships in 4 industries. The results from partial least squares modeling fully support our hypotheses with regard to cognitive distance, partially support those related to normative distance, but do not support those related to regulative distance. Abstract: Experiential and emotional aspects have recently become central to understanding of interaction with technology. Understanding the building blocks of user experience helps in defining and designing better information systems and increasing market success of products. This paper focuses on user experience via users’evaluations of virtual product prototypes. User experience being subjective, we analyse it through users’own interpretations. The specific aim of this paper is to explain the alternative views on how consumers understand virtual product prototypes. We presented threedimensional prototypes of furniture to twenty test users and interviewed them afterwards. Phenomenography was used as a research approach for analyzing the descriptions, allowing us to outline, with the help of two layers, the differences in consumers’understandings. The first layer contains the conceptions which consumers use when they describe virtual product prototypes. Based on the variations in the versatility of each test user’s description we constructed the second layer, which focuses on the forms of thinking. The three forms are: seeing I) a picture of a product via new technology, II) a separate product, and III) a product in its context. In our results, the user experience is understood as a unique combination of various elements, which extends over time. Collapse

Abstract: The aim of this research is to confirm that information quality impacts individual work, considering external variables that may influence knowledge workers perception of information quality and individual impact. This research is descriptive and the constructs used are known and previously validated. However, the research model, that includes external variables that may influence the relationship between perceived information quality and individual impact, has never been proposed nor validated by other researchers. The research unit is the individual that work in organizations and use at least one information system to do his/her job. A survey using self employed electronic questionnaire was applied to one large organization that operates in Paraná State, Brazil. Structural Equation Modeling was used to analyze the data. The results confirmed the positive influence of information quality on individual impacts and pointed out external variables that influence these perceived variables. Collapse

Abstract: This study explores the ways in which managers evaluate Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and participate in its adoption. Using in-depth qualitative focus group and published trade journal interviews, our study contributes to research on managing RFID projects in organizations by identifying salient problems and relating them to sensemaking and influencing activities across problem types and manager experience with RFID. We also identify potential dangers in applying past knowledge, cognitive patterns, and experience about information and communication technologies (ICT) to problems that arise in RFID projects.
