Abstract: With the increasing digitalization of health data, patients need to make informed decisions about the online sharing of their protected health information. This necessitates a robust technical infrastructure that enables patients to self-manage consent and the trusted exchange of this information across sharing entities. Unfortu­ nately, current health information exchange systems in the U.S. are limited in both these regards. While there is recent work on digital patient consent management, there is limited work that provides effective solutions for patient self-management of consent. Further, interoperability issues in the way health information exchanges are currently architected and differences in regulations across localities exacerbate the challenges of consent man­ agement. In this research, we survey potential patients' willingness to self-manage healthcare-related consent. Having established the desire for consent self-management, we propose a solution that enables the seamless sharing of patient consent across different healthcare providers and health information exchanges. Specifically, we use a rigorous design science approach to create a blockchain-based, self-managed patient consent system and we evaluate the design through an instantiated prototype. The results of our study should be useful to researchers in healthcare information management as well as to practitioners designing consent management systems. Our research contributes to design science research with an innovative, rigorously evaluated, design principles-based artifact that addresses a critical problem of sharing protected health information. Abstract: Today’s companies rely heavily on in-company information technology standards (ICITS) to reduce costs, ensure flexibility, and facilitate the planning, implementation, and operation of IT systems. Steering and managing ICITS has proven to be challenging, revealing the need for efficient governance mechanisms. But even though prior research demonstrates the challenges of ICITS, viable advice on how to implement ICITS is scarce. In this paper, we develop an organizational design theory for the management of ICITS based on the framework of organizational control theory. We conducted a critical case study to identify basic goals, constitutive elements, and fundamental mechanisms of a working ICITS management. The resulting design goals and principles were then evaluated and further refined in the light of additional expert interviews. With our work, we wish to extend the body of theoretical knowledge on the management of ICITS and help practitioners master the various challenges occurring in this domain. Collapse

Abstract: Digital forensics is an ever-growing field of science that is heavily involved in various fields. However, because of the expanding complexity of computer science, many new problems have arisen for digital forensics such as data scalability and cloud computing forensics data privacy, data traceability, integrity, and chain of custody. Blockchain can be useful for digital forensics to ensure security, like Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Stake. Proof-of-Work verifies that one node has done adequate computational work to other nodes on the network. Proof-of-Stake is a similar consensus mechanism but relates more to cryptocurrency. In literature, there are several attempts to synthesize the blockchain's digital forensics capabilities from a technical standpoint. After analyzing these review papers, we identify there is still a lack of classifying the solutions following an artifact classification taxonomy, understanding the broader impact of technical solutions following theories such as socio-technical theory, and summarizing the research contributions towards developing a design theory. The objective of this paper, thus, is to develop research propositions regarding the digital forensics use-case of blockchain following artifact taxonomy, socio-technical theory, and design theory. Abstract: Besides increasing transparency and demonstrating awareness of the author, self-reported limitations enable other researchers to effectively learn from, build on, validate, and extend the original work. However, this topic is understudied in information systems design science research (IS DSR). The study has assessed 243 IS DSR papers published in the period 2013–2022 and built a typology of the 19 most relevant limitations, organized into four categories: (1) Input Knowledge and Technology, (2) Research Process, (3) Resulting Artifact, and (4) Design Knowledge. Further, the contribution suggests actions to mitigate each type of limitation throughout the entire IS DSR project lifecycle. The authors have also created guidelines to report the limitations in a useful way for knowledge accumulation. The proposed typology and guidelines enable reviewers and editors to better frame self-reported limitations, assess rigor and relevance more systematically, and provide more precise feedback. Moreover, the contribution may help design researchers identify, mitigate, and effectively communicate the uncertainties inherent to all scientific advances. Collapse

Abstract: The proliferation of digital devices, rapid development of software and the infrastructure of today, have augmented user's capability to produce data at an unprecedented rate. The accelerated growth of data could be called the era of big data and forced a paradigm shift in data engineering because the variety, velocity and volume of data overwhelmed existing systems. While companies attempt to extract benefit from big data, success rates are still low. Challenges such as rapid changes in technology, organizational culture, complexity in data engineering, impediments to system development, and a lack of effective big data architectures mean that only an estimated 20% of companies achieved their goals. To this end, this study explores a domain-driven distributed big data reference architecture that addresses issues in data architecture, data engineering, and system development. This reference architecture is empirically grounded and evaluated through deployment in a real-world scenario as an instantiated prototype, solving a problem in practice. The results of the evaluation demonstrate utility and applicability but with architectural trade-offs and challenges. Collapse

Abstract: With societal challenges, including but not limited to human development, equity, social justice, and climate change, societal-level digital transformation (SDT) is of imminent relevance and theoretical interest. While building on local-level efforts, societal-level transformation is a nonlinear extension of the local level. Unfortunately, academic discourse on digital transformation has largely left SDT unaccounted for. Drawing on more than 25 years of intensive, interventionist research engagement with the digital transformation of public healthcare information management and delivery in more than 80 countries in the Global South, we contribute to theorizing SDT in the form of a design theory consisting of six interconnected design principles. These design principles articulate the interplay and tensions of accommodating over time increased diversity and flexibility in digital solutions, while simultaneously connecting local, national, and regional/ global efforts. inception in three townships in post-apartheid South Africa, different versions and configurations of the DHIS have been adopted by more than 80 countriesincluding all but two African countries south of the Sahara, Norway, and other "developed" countriesthrough the efforts of universities, ministries of health, international organizations, funding, and various other agencies. Its ambition highlights the concerns of equity, inclusiveness, and ideology-that is, making design "that matters" (Bødker & Kyng, 2018) for society.According to Markus and Rowe (2021), the study of SDT to date remains underresearched (cf. also Vial, 2019), despite its tremendous significance in the different facets of social life globally. This mirrors the general critique that Jørn Braa is a professor at the University of Oslo, Norway, where he has spent much of his professional career initiating, cultivating, and promoting interventionist research on and around the DHIS2/ HISP efforts. He is the "father" of the project. His work has been published in outlets including the MIS Quarterly, The Information Society, Information Technology for Development, and in books.Sundeep Sahay is a professor at the University of Oslo, Norway and for the last couple of decades has been engaged in the DHIS2/ HISP project, with a main focus on Asia in general and India in particular. Abstract: In order to ensure energy affordability, we propose a design-oriented behavioral research study with the aim of helping low-income tenants to develop an efficient energy behavior by increasing their energy self-efficacy. We propose to compare different digital interventions in field tests to understand, in an unfiltered way, what helps low-income tenants to be able to reduce their energy costs. We thereby contribute towards understanding how the vulnerable group of low-income tenants with their limitations and needs regarding their energy consumption behavior can be effectively supported digitally. Abstract: The rise in distraction-related traffic accidents necessitates in-car infotainment systems that prioritize safety, as current systems often prioritize entertainment and convenience, contributing to the high number of distracted driving fatalities. Therefore, this paper applied a design science research approach to develop a design theory for Augmented Automotive Spaces that holistically consider safety, interface, interaction, and attention requirements. The main artifact is a design theory intended to help researchers and practitioners understand the design requirements and principles of intuitive, immersive, and attentiongrabbing infotainment user interfaces that enhance safety and overall mobility experience. The design theory was further implemented in a prototypical reference scenario and positively evaluated for developmental usefulness, conciseness, explanatory power, and extendibility. Overall, the authors' work contributes to the research areas of user interface design, infotainment, automotive information systems, and safety measures as well as providing a comprehensive guideline for the development of immersive and safe automotive infotainment systems. Abstract: Digital identity systems are mandated to be established by all countries as part United Nations Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDG 16.9) However, globally, over a billion people are still without a digital identity. Digital identity projects, across continents, have achieved underwhelming results and are facing implementation hurdles. This research examines the architecture and design of digital identity platforms which enable achieving platform objectives. Design science approach of General Morphological Analysis (GMA) has been employed for such examination. Cases of both-a successful and another moderately successful digital identity program implementation have been examined to validate testable propositions regrading optimal architecture/design aspects of such platforms. Research learnings are relevant for policy makers and technology designers to incorporate such platform design aspects in respective national digital identity initiatives. In addition, this research contributes to design science body of knowledge by empirical generalization of a configurable template and design factors in respect of digital identity platforms. Abstract: A well-known approach to managing and controlling workflows in organizations is the workflow management system (WFMS). Recently, approaches utilizing augmented reality headsets as WFMS front ends have been discussed, enabling higher efficiency, effectiveness, and usability for certain application scenarios. However, existing design-oriented approaches lack tangible guidance for implementation. A well-known approach to address such knowledge gaps is a reference architecture, which inter alia reduces development times and risks and facilitates collaboration between developers. Based on an existing tentative design theory for an augmented reality-based WFMS front end, we contribute a reference architecture containing an extended design theory, user interface design, and UML models for use cases, components, classes, and sequence flows. The reference architecture was successfully operationalized in a prototype and positively evaluated via a survey of respective users. Collapse
