Abstract: The swift advancement of digital technologies demands CEOs to prioritize digital innovation strategies to stay competitive. However, an overemphasis on digitality, neglecting aspects like customer focus, operations, and collaboration, can hinder innovation. Using a neural network, we evaluated CEOs' digital strategies by training on 1,000 company pitches and applying this to S&P 500 CEOs ' Shareholder Letters (2001-2018. We discovered an inverted U relationship between digital strategy intensity and innovation performance. This stresses the need for a balanced strategy with the right digital focus. Our research illuminates top executives' digital mindset in driving innovation, emphasizing the potential pitfalls of a purely digital approach. Furthermore, our machine-learning method offers a novel, scalable way to quantify digital strategy, paving the way for subsequent research. Collapse

Abstract: Rapid appraisal of damages related to hazard events is of importance to first responders, government agencies, insurance industries, and other private and public organizations. While satellite monitoring, ground-based sensor systems, inspections and other technologies provide data to inform post-disaster response, crowdsourcing through social media is an additional and novel data source. In this study, the use of social media data, prin­ cipally Twitter postings, is investigated to make approximate but rapid early assessments of damages following a disaster. The goal is to explore the potential utility of using social media data for rapid damage assessment after sudden-onset hazard events and to identify insights related to potential challenges. This study defines a textbased damage assessment scale for earthquake damages, and then develops a text classification model for rapid damage assessment. Although the accuracy remains a challenge compared to ground-based instrumental readings and inspections, the proposed damage assessment model features rapidity with large amounts of data at spatial densities that exceed those of conventional sensor networks. The 2019 Ridgecrest, California earthquake sequence is investigated as a case study. Collapse

Abstract: Digital ideasharing platforms (e.g., TED talks) provide rich, novel, and a variety of un structured content (e.g., videos, audios, and texts) that can greatly shape people's opin ions, creativity, and lives. In this study, we investigated how well can "influential videos" help spread ideas and empower innovation. We explored what aspects of the content gen eration process mostly contribute to creative outcomes. Drawing from communication theory, ideas are partitioned into idea content and idea delivery. Combined with creativ ity and communication theory, we learned the idea content creativity and idea delivery using the NLP algorithm (i.e., RoBERTa) and the proposed VisualAudio Multimodal Fu sion Model. Extensive empirical analysis shows creative talk ideas convey deep thoughts, trigger increased audience's openmindedness and curiosity, and further facilitate audi ence creativity. Besides, speakers with great immediacy can build links and connections with the audience, and facilitate the audience's creativity, while dominating speakers fa cilitate persuasiveness and obedience but hurt audience creativity. Abstract: This paper aims to investigate the value of two types of innovation culture, namely employeeperceived and firm-proclaimed innovation culture. We quantify how employees perceive innovation culture by analyzing the text of 191542 employee reviews on Glassdoor and identifying the presence of firm-proclaimed innovation culture from their official websites. The results indicate that employeeperceived innovation culture has a positive influence on innovation output whereas firm-proclaimed innovation culture does not. Moreover, R&D intensity negatively moderates the effect of employee perceived innovation culture on firm innovation, such that the effect of employee perceived innovation culture is lower when R&D intensity is higher. This finding contradicts the observation of previous studies that used cross-sectional survey data. Nevertheless, our finding is consistent with the view that innovation culture cultivates the intrinsic motivation of employees, but the symbiotic control that comprises the increase of R&D intensity weakens it.
