Abstract: AI-based systems are increasingly deployed on organizational tasks, such as personnel selection decisions. As existing research indicates that applicants generally react negatively to the use of AI in personnel selection, this study examines how organizations can mitigate adverse reactions to fully exploit the benefits of AI. To obtain robust results, we recruited an online sample of German participants (N = 1,852) and presented them with various selection scenarios. Using a between-subject design, the process stage (preselection vs. interview) and the degree of process automation (augmented vs. automated) were manipulated. By employing a multidimensional conceptualization of transparency, we show that disclosure and accuracy positively impact procedural justice perceptions, a strong predictor of process quality assessment. This relationship is robust across selection contexts. Results indicate that applicants prefer AI for pre-selection and as human decision support, thus offering overall insights into design choices for AI in selection, optimizing applicant reactions. Abstract: The debate on the pros and cons of employee attachment to social networking sites (SNS) has led to social media policy paralysis in many organizations, and often a prohibition on employee use of SNS. This paper examines corporate users’ attachment to SNS. An analysis of 316 survey responses showed that corporate users’ socialization in large public SNS was steeped in perceived work-related benefits, which in turn nourished their SNS attachment. Social use outperformed informational use in generating perceived work-related benefits from SNS. Weak ties in large heterogeneous networks resulted in strategic and operational benefits, whereas the effects of strong bonding in homogenous networks were limited to operational benefits. The paper contributes to research on SNS use by corporate users and the debate on the effect of SNS use for work. The findings will benefit SNS strategists of organizations and policymakers to exploit the benefit potential of public SNS. Collapse

Abstract: Knowledge management (KM) has emerged as an operational and strategic organisational tool. However, the influence of recent cyber regulations (CR) and security policies (SP) on the usefulness of KM, are absent from the literature. This study focuses on the intersection of knowledge management and knowledge fortification. The study employs survey data from a sample of firms and utilises partial least squares (PLS) with extensive post hoc analyses, to examine the influence of CR and SP on KM core processes (acquisition, sharing, and utilisation) and subsequently on the operational effectiveness and strategic performance of firms. Contrary to prior research, we found that external knowledge sharing negatively affected performance. These findings support our assertion that KM processes are tied to contingencies that change the relationship between KM outcomes. Collapse

Abstract: This study measures the relationship between tacit knowledge sharing and innovation in the Polish (n = 350) and US (n = 379) IT industries. Conceptually, the study identifies the potential sources of tacit knowledge devel­ opment by individuals. That is, the study examines how “learning by doing” and “learning by interaction” lead to a willingness to share knowledge and, as a consequence, to support process and product/service innovation. This study empirically demonstrates that tacit knowledge internalization and externalization (awareness and sharing) significantly mediate between tacit knowledge experimentation and socialization (acquisition) and its final combination (knowledge in action). While such theoretical assumptions already exist, they have not yet been empirically explained and revealed in a single structural model. Further, this empirical approach enabled a demonstration that internalization and externalization of tacit knowledge may occur consciously or uncon­ sciously with equal success. Even so, the study also showed conscious tacit knowledge’s greater impact on innovation. Therefore, an organizational effort to manage autonomous, informal, and strongly contextual tacit knowledge is worthwhile and creates the capacity for superior competitive advantage. Finally, this study also demonstrates that national context influences tacit knowledge acquisition. In the US, “learning by doing” is dominant, whereas in Poland, “learning by interaction” and critical thinking are more common. This might be related to factors such as risk acceptance that could be studied in more detail and provide opportunities for future research. Collapse

Abstract: Social comparisons on traditional social networking sites (SNSs) such as Instagram can increase envy and reduce well-being. In this context, authenticity-driven SNSs such as BeReal intend to nudge their users towards sharing authentic and everyday content, thus reducing envy-inducing social comparisons occurring on traditional SNSs. However, it is unclear whether the content shared on authenticity-driven SNSs is indeed perceived as more authentic than on traditional SNSs, and how this affects SNS envy and well-being. Moreover, the relevance of perceived content authenticity next to self-esteem as an established envy antecedent remains unclear. Using two surveys, we found that BeReal content was perceived as more authentic than Instagram content. Furthermore, higher perceived content authenticity and self-esteem were associated with lower envy and increased affective well-being on both BeReal and Instagram, with self-esteem being a stronger predictor. This suggests that SNS design can reduce SNS envy, yet personal traits remain relevant predictors. Collapse

Abstract: Drawing on optimal distinctiveness theory and Jellinek’s concept of the Normative Force of the Factual, we provide an alternative explanation for how the normality of gender imbalance in IT-driven start-ups (i.e., the fact that there are far more men than women) becomes normativity (what everyone expects to see), and eventually an imperative for those desiring to enter the field. We uncover the process used to pressure female founders of IT start-ups into being like the prototypical actor, usually male, and how failing to do so reduces audience support. This process is self-referential and self-enforcing and thus detached from efforts to reduce hurdles and obstacles for female founders. Our article provides recommendations on how to break this self-referential cycle. Collapse

This study developed a research model based on the value-based adoption model to understand the factors influencing health care professionals’ adoption of MPMSC. Empir­ ical analysis has shown that perceived value and legal concerns can predict health care professionals’ intention to adopt MPMSC and that outcome expectations, perceived mobility, perceived effort, and privacy concerns can predict perceived value. Abstract: Although extant papers have investigated the direct impact of mobile devices on the review helpfulness, little is known about its indirect impact. In this paper, we address this issue by examining the mediating roles of con­ sumer evaluation captured by both basic and optional review elements as well as the moderating role of response period. Combining a dataset from TripAdvisor with advanced mediation models, we find that the use of mobile devices significantly influences the content of review elements, which indirectly results in the change of review helpfulness. In detail, review extremity and text negative sentiment positively mediate the effect of mobile de­ vices on review helpfulness, as opposed to the negative mediations of text length and multidimensional ratings. Moreover, comparisons of their effect sizes reveal that text length and multidimensional ratings are responsible for the lower helpfulness of mobile reviews. Drawing on the theory of temporal distance, our moderationmediation model reveals extending response period can be an effective way of curing the low helpfulness of mobile reviews. Our results deepen the extant understanding about the impact of mobile devices and provide practitioners important implications regarding the design of review elements and the policy of managing reviews. Abstract: Since late 2019, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has led to a significant increase in the demand for medical resources. To publish data on face mask supplies, the Taiwanese government collaborated with program developers to construct a mask-supply information transitional platform (MITP). To comprehend the adoption of MITP, the study proposes a research model that integrates the health behavior model (HBM) and IS/IT continuance model for examining the factors affecting intention to use an MITP. Survey data collected from 524 respondents indicated that (1) intention to use an MITP is directly influenced by perceived threat of COVID-19 and beliefs toward using the MITP; (2) cues to action directly influence the perceived threat of COVID-19; and (3) perceived ease of use of MITP is a significant determinant of perceived usefulness of MITP. These results provide practical guidelines for health authorities and government to develop health information systems and strategies to control pandemics. Collapse
