Abstract: Commercializing data and data-related services has gained in importance in recent years. Driven by digitalization and the Internet-of-Things (IoT), companies and individuals continuously generate vast amounts of data. Data marketplaces have emerged to support these data providers in selling their data to different data consumers. However, data marketplaces face challenges in different data governance decision domains that inhibit their adoption. To get a better understanding of how data marketplaces counteract these challenges, this paper develops a taxonomy of data governance decision domains in data marketplaces. We used a taxonomy development method to inspect 13 data marketplaces from eight countries. The resulting taxonomy shows an overview of mechanisms concerning data quality, data security, data architecture, metadata, data lifecycle, data storage, and data pricing. We discuss common instantiation patterns, highlight gaps, and propose possible solutions. The taxonomy sets a foundation for further research and theory-building on data marketplaces. Practitioners can use the taxonomy to develop customized data governance strategies for data marketplaces. Collapse

Abstract: In the United States and around the world, gun violence has become a long-standing public safety concern and a security threat, due to violent gun-related crimes, injuries, and fatalities. Although legislators and lawmakers have attempted to mitigate its threats through legislation, research on gun violence confirms the need for a comprehensive approach to gun violence prevention. This entails addressing the problem in as many ways as possible, such as through legislation, new technological advancements, re-engineering supply, and administrative protocols, among others. The research focuses on the technological, supply, and administrative aspects, in which we propose a manner of managing gun-related data efficiently from the point of manufacture/sale, as well as at points of transfers between secondary sellers for the improvement of criminal investigation processes. Making data more readily available with greater integrity will facilitate successful investigations and prosecutions of gun crimes. Currently, there is no single and uniform platform for firearm manufacturers, dealers, and other stakeholders involved in firearm sales, dissemination, management, and investigation. With the help of Blockchain technology, gun registry, ownership, transfers, and, most importantly, investigations, when crimes occur, can all be managed efficiently, breaking the cycle of gun violence. The identification of guns, gun tracing, and identification of gun owners/possessors rely on accuracy, integrity, and consistency in related systems to influence gun crime investigation processes. Blockchain technology, which uses a consensus-based approach to improve processes and transactions, is demonstrated in this study as a way to enhance these procedures. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to explore and demonstrate the utility of Blockchain for gun-related criminal investigations using a design science approach. Collapse

Abstract: Many organizations have on-premises data storage systems that are evolving; among them is Big Data (BD). BD is a data storage system that can analyze large volumes, with velocity, and a variety of data. Per the Economist, data is now the most valuable resource. BD holds the promise of unlocking substantial parts. Many organizations want to implement BD but have not been able to. There is a need to identify key factors affecting adoptions for such organizations. The following factors are identified as (novel): data storage latency, ability to compute, data storage interface compatibilities, open-source software, and enterprisesourced software, or (under-studied): cost, perceived industry pressure, legislation barriers, and market turbulence. These factors were studied empirically with DOI and TOE by conducting a survey and performing quantitative PLS-SEM analysis. This analysis showed that these adoption factors are significant: data storage interface compatibility, open-source, enterprise-source software, cost, industry pressure, and market turbulence. Abstract: Organizations today need internal reporting channels to report illegal/unethical misconduct. For this purpose, organizations set up one or more - often digital - internal reporting channels. Persons/Employees who want to report misconduct, so-called whistleblowers, expose themselves to reprisals and therefore need trustworthy reporting channels which ensure ´Digital Trust´. Blockchain, a technology that overcomes the need for trust due to its properties of immutability and integrity of data, could be promising as underlying technology for a digital reporting channel which is recognized as trustworthy. In our research, we explored multiple perspectives relevant to a trustworthy digital reporting system. Applying design science research, we evaluated the current state of the art of (digital) reporting channels and developed a prototypical blockchain-based reporting solution called “Integrity@Inside”. Abstract: Inspired by the success of agile practices in small teams, organizations seek to achieve agility at scale, leading to large-scale agile transformations. Several frameworks have been developed to guide organizations through this process. While multiple challenges for adopting scaled agile frameworks have already been identified, research on the interplay between traditional management approaches and scaled agile frameworks is scarce. We conduct an in-depth exploratory case study with a German financial services provider to identify tensions that arise when applying a scaled agile framework in a non-agile environment. As a result, we derive 13 tensions along with three areas: goal-setting, planning, and reporting. Thereby, we advance the understanding of tensions within large-scale agile transformations and provide a foundation for future research on scaled agile practices in traditional organizations. Abstract: INTRODUCTIONThe development of big data applications is driving the dramatic growth of hybrid data, often in the form of complex sets of cross-media content including text, images, videos, audios, and time series. Tremendous volumes of these heterogeneous data are derived from multiple IoT sources and present new challenges for the design, development, and implementation of effective information systems and decision support frameworks to meet heterogeneous computing requirements. Emerging technologies allow for the near real-time extraction and analysis of heterogeneous data to find meaningful information.Machine-learning algorithms allow computers to learn automatically, analyzing existing data to establish rules to predict outcomes of unknown data. However, traditional machine learning approaches do not meet the needs for Internet of Things (IoT) applications, calling for new technologies. Deep learning is a good example of emerging technologies that tackle the limitations of traditional machine learning through feature engineering, providing superior performance in highly complex applications. However, these technologies also raise new security and privacy concerns. Technology adoption and trust issues are of timely importance as well.Industrial operations are in the midst of rapid transformations, sometimes referred to as Industry 4.0, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), or smart manufacturing. These transformations are bringing fundamental changes to factories and workplaces, making them safer and more efficient, flexible, and environmentally friendly. Machines are evolving to have increased autonomy, and new human-machine interfaces such as smart tools, augmented reality, and touchless interfaces are making interaction more natural. Machines are also becoming increasingly interconnected within individual factories as well as to the outside world through cloud computing, enabling many opportunities for operational efficiency and flexibility in manufacturing and maintenance.An increasing number of countries have put forth national advanced manufacturing development strategies, such as Germany's Industry 4.0, the United States' Industrial Internet and manufacturing system based on CPS (Cyber-Physical Systems), and China's Internet Plus Manufacturing and Made in China 2025 initiatives. Smart Manufacturing aims to maximize transparency and access of all manufacturing process information across entire manufacturing supply chains and product lifecycles, with the Internet of Things (IoT) as a centerpiece to increase productivity and output value. Abstract: A rich body of research examines the cybersecurity behavior of employees, with a particular focus on explaining the reasons why employees comply with (or violate) organizational cybersecurity policies. However, we posit that this emphasis on policy compliance is susceptible to several notable limitations that could lead to inaccurate research conclusions. In this commentary, we examine the limitations of using cybersecurity policy compliance as a dependent variable by presenting three assertions: (1) the link between policy compliance and organizational-level outcomes is ambiguous; (2) policies vary widely in terms of their clarity and completeness; and (3) employees have an inconsistent familiarity with their own organization’s cybersecurity policies. Taken together, we suggest that studying compliance with cybersecurity policies reveals only a partial picture of employee behavior. In response, we offer recommendations for future research. Abstract: This methodological paper discusses the ethical and power-based implications of conducting remote and participatory research in a refugee camp in Malawi. This community-engaged project focused on education and technology. Half of the research team lives in Canada and half in the Dzaleka Refugee Camp. This paper reflects on this study, with a focus on remote partnership, team building with community researchers, and the use of digital tools to coordinate and manage data collection and analysis. Abstract: Random Access Memory (RAM) prices have been dropping precipitously. This has given rise to the possibility of keeping all data gathered in RAM rather than utilizing disk storage. This technological capability, along with benefits associated with a columnar storage database system, reduces the benefit of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) and eliminates the need for Online Transactional Processing (OLTP) and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) activities to remain separate. The RDBMS was a required data structure due to the need to separate the daily OLTP activities from the OLAP analysis of that data. In-memory processing allows both activities simultaneously. Data analysis can be done at the speed of data capture. Relational databases are not the only option for organizations. In-Memory is emerging, and university curriculum needs to innovate and create skills associated with denormalization of existing database (legacy) systems to prepare for the next generation of data managers. Abstract: It is long established that data from platforms can be useful for deriving patterned insights into people's behavior and conduct. Data platforms are important in fields with limited data availability and strict regulatory and hierarchical structures, such as healthcare and nursing analytics. Hence, we carefully examine three forerunner initiatives in establishing data platforms in the context of nursing care along normative, organizational, and technical dimensions of governance. The cases were selected due to their high level of comparability and to demonstrate three different types of data governance strategies understood as actions to reconcile conflicting interests regarding data and dealing with prevalent data protection lawranging from strictly processual approaches to the creation of synthetic data. These findings highlight the importance of considering data governance strategies concisely when building data platforms and suggest considerable variety in the configuration of data governance arrangements.
